Drew didn't know why the usual place for the nine schools to meet was Hogwarts, but it had gotten tiring after a while. Maybe to some foreign students, the castle had become like a treasured (or terrifying, due to its dangerous tendencies) vacation home that they were able to visit a couple of times a year, but Drew had just gotten bored of it. It was better than sitting around Ilvermorny the whole year, but really? They hadn't been able to branch out at all? It was only this year that Drew really seemed to feel the diversity of the nine wizarding schools be truly appreciated. That's why he was so excited to be at Koldovstorez.

Plus, Drew was a social guy. He had plenty of friends at his school, but he loved to meet new people, and that was his main goal for this trip. He originally planned to go with his friend, Josh (made up dnpc), but he had gotten a nasty bout of Dragonpox just a couple of weeks before the event, and while he was on the mend, he didn't want to get anyone else sick. Drew had been eyeing the bobsledding competition, but he wasn't sure who would be his partner with Josh out of the equation. Maybe he could find someone, but the thing was that Drew didn't want just anyone to bobsled with. He wanted to win. That meant that they had to be able to work together, and they had to be fairly strong, fast, and smart.

And who was he going to find that was as good as that at the last minute?

All that to say, Koldovstorez was really cool, in more ways than just its clear awesomeness. Drew was used to the cold winter months, going to school in the mountains of Massachusetts, but this was another level. He wondered what a shock it would be for students from schools in the southern hemisphere like Uagadou and Castelobruxo, coming from the middle of the summer to the winter here. Drew didn't mind it, but he didn't get cold easily. The snow crunched under his boots as he trekked to his yurt, and it made the whole place around him sparkle, making the novelty of his first time at the school even more awesome. He would have all week to appreciate the beauty of Koldovstorez, but for now, he finally arrived at his yurt, where he would be staying while he was here.

Drew had to admit that he wasn't altogether familiar with yurts, but entering one, with its pride for his school and warm contrast to the snowy weather outside, the blonde decided he liked it. He deposited his luggage with an ungraceful thud at the end of one of the beds across from the entrance to the yurt, and stood in the empty middle to take in the room. Drew had to say he wasn't expecting the yurt he entered to remind him so strongly of the school he hailed from. It had a dark theme, everything seeming to be a shade of gray, and eight beds rested against the walls. Or, he guessed, wall, since the huge room the students would be staying in was, in fact, a circle. Each bed had a little table beside it for anything they might want to store, and a little rug underneath. Small seats were scattered around the yurt as well if any of the students wanted to sit, but the large empty middle space seemed to give ample room for them to stand or sit together, if they wanted.

What had most hinted to him that this yurt was themed after Ilvermorny wasn't the colors or the patterns on the sheets, but the four crests that hung on the walls, each representing one of the houses in Ilvermorny- a Thunderbird, a Horned Serpent, a Pukwudgie, and, Drew's favorite, a Wampus.

Drew started taking his coat off as he waited to be joined by his yurt-mates.

XXXXX𝖂hile students and perhaps some staff went to the other school, Tenūsa, Brookline did not. The trip took place over the winter holidays and no matter how fun it could be going to an international school, she skipped. Instead, the Ravenclaw slept in her dormitory, isolated from the remaining students at Hogwarts.

The young Quinn surprised herself when she packed her bags for the Koldovstorez event, she merely told herself it was only because she’d be spectating and possibly cheering for friends in the Olympics games. Not knowing this meant, Brookline halted a witch in the halls. According to this Muggle-born underclassmen, these events were based off the Olympics the Muggles pulled off every two or so years. The witch also remarked that these were competitive sports, and when the Muggle-born explained a few of those sports, Brookline frowned at the obvious oddity of them all! Yet, perhaps she’d have fun. Perhaps there would be friends who would go with her. It meant she’ll have to fib but when the girl was packing, she did not care.

Brookline wore a simple frown, and her cloak, however, as Hogwarts students and other schools alike were popping in via magic. The Portkey made her feel a little tongue-tied and if they spun on any longer, the contents of her lunch would be elsewhere. She gathered her belongings, and hefted up Tigeress' crate. The brown tabby mewed and whimpered, her pet shivering. The Welsh girl thought this would be fun, hanging out with friends and meeting new people. The Director of Koldovstorez greeted students who clutched their stomachs and invited them the Welcome Feast. Brookline would probably go and eat, even a little bit, but Tigeress now was meowing loud. That cat wanted out!

Brookline turned around, her plait swinging round. The young girl searched the crowd, her blue eyes casting out to see if there was people she knew. She surprised herself. Unlike other days, she actually wanted to find solace in a witch or wizard she knew. Then a recognizable sea of sapphire eyes flashed in her vision. Hey, wait! Brookline thought, those eyes are familiar...

As Brookline ventured closer, the eyes wasn’t just eyes, it was a person. Turquoise eyes, sunny-blonde hair tumbled down the girl’s back. Pam? The Welsh girl narrowed her eyes when she noticed the other girl was Pamela Graham. Wait. Is the Hufflepuff spinning around...in circles...? That was strange. While Pamela was quite different from quiet and secluded Brookline, it was still a little strange to be twirling around one huge crowd of disoriented people. Even more strange that the badger had just escaped the spiraling clutches of the Portkey. Brookline could only imagine what that spinning could affect that brain of hers.

The Welsh girl hesitated three times as she brought grubby fingernails to her lips. Her teeth began to anxiously and without harm, gnaw on her nails. She hesitated once again before Brookline’s legs took over and took the couple steps over to Pamela. And not to scare the Hufflepuff, she reached over and tapped her spinning underclassmen’s shoulder. Before words could escape, Pamela had already turned around to face Brookline. Deep inhale in and out.

“Hey, Pamela! Last time I checked, pretty sure we’re in the same yurt, correct? If you’d like, we could go down together as well.” Brookline met Pamela a while back, in her second year, when the Ravenclaw had been so disappointed, in the start of her misery, in February. Pamela had witnessed her trip and fall, books scattered wildly all over the place. Then Brookline saw the underclassmen again at the end of second year, on the way home, along with another Ravenclaw. So, it wasn’t all that surprising that the young Quinn would see Pamela again. Of course, the underclassmen seemed very familiar, as if Brookline had ever seen the girl before. But, she had never, and it perplexed her whenever she thought of the young badger.

A small smile split her face, and Brookline tried her very best to be genuine.. Pamela had a very skilled ability to know when the poor girl was lying through her teeth. The third year waited for the second year to speak, and Brookline asked, “How was the holidays? Did you see your family, Pam? I hope the break from school was uplifting!” She let that sit for a little bit. A small, little pause where Brookline let the smile droop ever so slightly, as her mouth started to hurt. She hoped that Pamela doesn’t or think about that shift in such an insightful smile. “I know for sure, that it helped me. A lot,” Brookline added, with a undertone, as if she was just tad bit embarrassed to utter the truth go everyone around her.

Once Pamela had said her share, the two young girls who presently didn’t know the role each played in both girls’ lives, hefted up their belongings and walked over to the area with yurts. Brookline kept the conversation insignificant and more like small talk as she winced for her pet’s increasing hatred for the confined space.

Soon, Miss Impatience, Brookline thought, with her fingers away from the cage’s tiny holes. She had learned from experience that no matter how close were cat and girl, Tigeress was extremely exceptional in her battle with the cage, her claws always near the not-so-useful ventilation openings which are supposed to be used for airflow. Leave it up to Tigeress to find other uses!

When the two girls entered the yurt, Brookline did all she could to not gape in suspicion. It looked like night after all, when it was light outside! The vast darkness of it all made her seem little wary, and bleakness of the shelter made her glance further to notice the candles. The candles had very little light, and they flickered fast. But, overall, it looked pretty and a little cozy. It was to be her home for a little bit, and Brookline supposed not to complain.

Then, the Ravenclaw girl noticed the other person in the yurt. He was tall, the first thing that she gathered as she studied him. Not like three-inch height difference. No, this lad was like a whole foot taller than her! The small third year felt even smaller as she thought what to do. Then, all Old Brookline extrovert traits came rushing back and she found herself approaching the blonde wizard. She didn’t know if this upperclassmen was a student from annother school or if he was from.Hogwarts, but Brookline just rolled with it. “Hello! I assume you’re a part of our yurt? Pleased to meet you, I’m Brookline Quinn, third-year Ravenclaw, and this is...” She smiled at her friend behind her, letting Pamela introduce herself if she so wished.

Upon her arrival in Koldovstorez, Kaitlyn felt momentarily disoriented. Traveling by Portkey felt weird to her. To be fair, traveling by floo was also very weird (and incredibly dusty and dirty). She had no idea when she’d eventually feel comfortable traveling via magical means. And yet, it was really the only way to traverse magically … at least for now. There was no way she’d feel comfortable flying a broom for long amounts of time … especially when she had no idea where she was going.

The International Magical Olympic Games … other than sounding very similar to their muggle counterparts … was very exciting! Truth be told, Kaitlyn wasn’t planning on signing up to compete at all. Yet, when her eyes found the Figure Skating category, she knew that she had to try to earn a medal for Hogwarts! While she wasn’t a competitive girl at all, she found that she enjoyed competing … as evidenced by how much she enjoyed her broom racing sport.

Of course, that also meant that Kaitlyn had to learn quickly. She was able to practice a bit at Hogwarts. Figure Skating wasn’t inherently that different than the dancing that she already knew how to do. Even with her practice at the castle … and her hometown over the winter break … it felt only like a drip in the bucket to the young teenage snake. While she wasn’t afraid of skating on ice, it wasn’t like she actively tried it out a lot.

Kaitlyn fidgeted slightly, stuffing her hand into the pocket of her cloak, gently petting her Mist Hopper, Demeter. She enjoyed carrying the cute little rabbit around with her. Her blue eyes danced around as she tried to figure out how to head to her yurt. Before she could figure out her best course of action, she caught sight of a familiar blonde-haired girl.

With a giggle, Kaitlyn moved gracefully to approach Devon, greeting the American girl with a bright smile. “Could you imagine that we’re sharing a yurt this time?” She asked, before offering her hand to the other girl. “Come on, let’s see where we’re staying,” she invited Devon along with her.

While talking more with Devon and skipping toward their yurt, the girls arrived at the indicated yurt for them. Kaitlyn beamed as she allowed Devon in before herself, with her following right afterward. With her first step inside, she felt slightly disoriented by how dark it was! Thankfully, her eyes … slowly … became accustomed to the new surroundings. There was an older student that she had no idea who he was … but she recognized two girls from Hogwarts - Brookline and Pamela.

“Hi! I’m Kaitlyn Connor, third year Slytherin,” She greeted the older student. Turning to Brookline and Pam, she smiled and waved at them. “Hi, Brook! Hi, Pamela!”

The second Devon’s feet touched the ground, she momentarily lost her balance and fell to the ground. ‘Goodness! These portkeys. They take so much out of me,’ she reflected, slowly standing back up. The impacts were temporary, and yet still felt so terrible! How was it that witches and wizards would use such abhorrent ways to travel? As an American student, she should be used to it by now … but, yeah, no … not yet!

The young Horned Serpent slightly swayed on the spot before regaining her balance. She made a note to write an owl to her sister, Rebecca, to complain about the portkey. Would it help? Unlikely. But, at least Becca wouldn’t ask her a million questions.

Her green eyes looked around at all of the other students arriving, and Devon smiled. The International Magical Olympic Games! Such a fascinating competition! If she had to be honest, she was very excited by the whole event. When she first saw the advertisements and announcements at Ilvermorny, she had a rough time deciding what to compete in. Every sport roused her interest!

After much reflection (ok, ok, fine … it so happened to occur when she was sitting on the floor in the Divination classroom … barefoot with a very pretty tea cup grazing her lips with a special black tea blend brewed in the cup … she had been in the middle of a tea reading), she opted for Ice Hockey. It wasn’t a sport she was anywhere near accustomed to (she was a soccer player, after all, and a broom racer … not an ice hockey player … although, with her current lack of balance, how exactly was she going to do about balancing on ice skates? Find out when it was time for her to skate and play).

Ginger barked and wagged her tails. Devon smiled and held her crup to her chest lovingly. The young blonde-haired teenager didn’t notice her bestie until Kaitlyn glided over to her. Devon giggled and nodded. “I’m glad to see it, too,” she confirmed, taking Kaitlyn’s hand with a smile.

The best friends skipped together to the yurt they were sharing with other students, as well. Hopefully, this would be the start of a wonderful sporting event for them! Only time would tell on the front … without the additional aid of tea readings. As much as Devon loved tea reading, she wasn’t about to jinx herself by trying to predict the future. After all, the whole point of sporting events like this was to compete. Anyone who knew this American girl would know she wasn’t the competitive type. That wouldn’t stop her from trying to win a medal for Ilvermorny, though!

Upon their arrival, Devon giggled and blushed at Kaitlyn letting her in first. “Why, thank you,” she smiled, sliding into the yurt. The second she stepped foot inside … it was like a night and day difference. It was dark inside! Not scarily so, though! Still, it took her a few moments for her eyes to adjust to the difference. As that happened, she felt Kaitlyn enter the yurt after her.

The young teenager noticed an older student … one that she could have sworn might go to Ilvermorny with her? She hadn’t a clue. As much as she liked to be a talkative witch, she wasn’t as experienced talking to older-year students! She also noticed a girl from the summer camp, a Hogwarts student like Kaitlyn … with a younger-looking girl. Her green eyes flooded with amusement at Kaitlyn’s introduction, before she launched into hers.

“Hi! I’m Devon Wallen, from Ilvermorny. I’m a Horned Serpent,” she noted with a kind smile dancing on her lips.

Speech -- Thoughts

Koldovstorez.

Pam had only read and heard of the school, but had never had the opportunity to see the place for herself.

Before today.

The name of the school itself was unique. Pam thought it was a name suited for some sort of Russian nobility. She wondered if it was purposeful. How did the founders come up with the name? She still wasn't completely sure if she was pronouncing the name correctly.

The place was beautiful though. It was cold, a chilly wind occasionally blowing. The grounds were painted in white, a layer of ice covering the grass and trees. Pam had already expected the coldness, having found out about the ice skating competition. She'd signed up for it almost immediately, pairing up with a girl she'd barely exchanged two words with. Amelia Lerelle, if Pam remembered correctly.

She giggled, spinning lightly on the ground, similar to how she'd skate on solid ice, except this version of ice crunched under her shoes. It was fun, freeing in a way, the cold air pressing into her face, and—

A tap on her shoulder interrupted her bliss, and Pam spun around to find a familiar face.

Brookline!

Her eyes lit up to see the older student, and she nodded excitedly, "Yes please, I'd like that—" A sound interrupted her, (again) and this time, Pam spotted a brown tabby in a cage, seemingly wanting to get out, and Pam kneeled infront of her for a quick second, "Hello there~"

From beside her suitcase, Lumi hooted sharply, indignant and reproaching. She'd watched Pam indulging in her weird human tendencies and had apparently had enough. Or maybe, if Pam was lucky and her pet had grown a bit more interest in her, she'd become jealous of her showing a little attention to another animal. Pam doubted it was that.

Pam rushed over to the cage anyway, gently rubbing the owl's head and lifting it up, before turning to Brookline. They started walking in the direction of their yurt and Pam answered Brookline's question, "Yeah, the holidays were nice. I had fune with my dad. What about you? What did you do then?"

They entered the yurt as Pam voiced her question, and they took to introducing themselves to the others,, one familiar face and two new. Pam smiled, "Hi Kaitlyn. Nice to meet you guys, I'm Pamela."
