My Little Lizard  pet   pv
I was finally allowed to get a pet! I went to the small magical pet shop in the village, and pushed open the door, listening to the noise of the bells chiming against each other. The shopkeeper, Madame Dubois, lifted up her hand, and waved her fingers at me. I smiled back - we’d always got on well, as she ran a stall in the weekly market, where Grandma got the more regular supplies for the sanctuary - large buckets, and medicine for very basic ailments. I’d been going to that market since before I could even walk, and she had been there every single week without fail.
I paused just inside the doorway to remember what my Aunt had said just before I left the house - that I could only spend up to 20 galleons, that it would have to be a pet that I could easily look after. It needed to be an animal that didn’t shed too much fur, as my aunt didn’t want to have to clean it up. Finally, and most importantly, I couldn’t get a pet that would be able to get into the dragon enclosures, as it would get eaten. Sad, but the truth.
I walked past the cats (too much fur), and the half-crups (too expensive), until I reached the back of the shop, where all of my favourite animals were. I decided not to get a rabbit, for the same reason as cats, and toads were just a given “no”. Finally, I was left with owls, which I just wasn’t sure about. It wasn’t that there was anything wrong with them, just that my family already had owls, and I wanted something different, more exotic. I turned around in a circle, seeing if there were any animals that I’d missed.
Then, I saw Madame Dubois gesturing for me to come over to her.
“Rien ne vous fait envie?” Nothing takes your fancy?
I shook my head.
“Suis-moi.” Follow me
She led me around the back of the counter, and into the back room of the shop. She pointed towards an opened top glass container.
“Ici.” Here
I looked in, and gasped with delight. There was a singular lizard, curled up into a ball on the bottom of the container. Madame carefully lent in, and lifted it out. She put it onto my shoulder, where it uncurled, and stretched up its back, and the ridges spiked upwards, showing me its soft, almost greenish belly.
“C’est parfait!” It’s perfect! I said.
“Elle s'appelle Sunflower. Elle a trois mois.” Her name is Sunflower. She is three months old
I handed over the money, and skipped out of the shop, with my new pet lizard!
