Anastasia ducked into a compartment, having managed to evade her cousin for the moment. She'd been in a compartment with a perfectly delightful girl, but then Bloody Lydia had shown up and dragged her back to the compartment full of bossy 16-year-olds. That was not how Anastasia wanted to start her years at Hogwarts. She would have plenty of time to hang around Lydia and her bossy friends once she was sorted into Slytherin. For now, she wanted a moment of freedom. This was the first time in her entire life where her parents weren't right there watching every move she made. She was determined to enjoy it. Not that she was planning on rebelling or anything, she just needed a break. It was exhausting, having to act like she was perfect all the time, and she could only imagine how much worse it would be at school.
She looked around and was glad to see that, for the moment, she was alone. That meant that, hopefully, nobody had seen her odd behavior. She did hope she wouldn't spend the whole train ride alone since she was eager to meet new people and hopefully make some allies or at least some minions. She was also rather interested at the prospect of meeting a real-life Muggleborn. Her parents had taught her all about the importance of blood purity, but she'd never actually meet someone who had grown up in the Muggle world.
Shaking off her thoughts about Muggles, she sat down and pulled out a book from her bag. This would be at least the third time she'd read the Defence Against the Dark Arts textbook, but she figured it would hardly hurt to read it again. She was only started to get absorbed in the book when the door swung open and she was joined by another first year.

Almost There
Liliafix walked down the aisle, biting her lip. She smiled as she saw an empty compartment, but her mother gave her the look only she could give through a window. Her mother wanted Liliafix to make friends, and the new student knew that she would ensure she sat down in a compartment with someone else. Liliafix begrudgingly slid open the next compartment door, her face down.
"I-uh-uh... Um- i-is there anyone sitting here?
She risked a glance upwards. There was a single girl in the compartment, reading a book of some sort. She had long, shiny brown hair and didn't seem to be as clueless as Liliafix. She evaded eye contact as she nervously awaited the girl's reply. Her mother was probably watching her now, shaking her head with embarrassment.
Her mother was a muggle, like her former husband. She knew just as much about the wizarding world as Liliafix, zip. Liliafix's stepfather was a wizard, but he never spent much time with his family, he's always too busy with his job at the Ministry. Liliafix's mother had made him go to Diagon Alley with her, but he didn't tell her anything about the wizarding world, other than she better not come back a Hufflepuff. Liliafix did not know what a Hufflepuff was, so she looked it up in her new, fresh copy of Hogwarts, A History. She did not think that was a very nice thing for her father to say.
Liliafix snapped out of her thoughts, realizing that she had been zoning out. Who knows how long she had been daydreaming?
"Oh-I- I'm so s-sorry, I- I -I should probably just go..."

Almost There

Receiving a letter via an owl and travelling all the way down to London apparently wasn’t enough already. They had to add walking through a wall on the list of getting on that train. "These people are mad. Mad I tell you!" His father had spoken whilst shaking his head. The poor muggle still had trouble figuring out his son was part of this community now. Muggle... another word Angus had frowned upon. Though the look on his face had caused his son to cackle loudly at home, which in turn had turned the man's frown upside down.
Hugh’s father had dropped the boy off all the way from scotland to king’s cross station. Thinking his son would find the right track on his own, he left him at the entrance. Which Hugh normally would, but it took him a while to figure out the last part. It was not until he talked to what seemed like an unusual looking elderly lady and her granddaughter, that he learned the exact location of track 93/4.
Having reached the train he felt relieved, even though he wasn't on that darn red machine yet. But this was only the start of yet another trip into the unknown, he figured. Time to get moving and make sure he at the very least gets himself where they told him to go. He would imagine his father wouldn't have been happy to come and pick him back up all the way down south again. His nervous thoughts seemed to flare up as quick as the train exhausted its steam. Get on that train Hugh. One foot after the other, awrite.
It wasn’t easy for him. Though he was a kind lad, he wasn’t particularly sociable. But he knew he’d have to step up if he wanted to go through with this plan. He scoffed. ‘Plan’, sure... great plan Hugh... try to find somewhere to sit. You don’t want to stand the whole trip.
A big suitcase and some bunched up clothes in his arms made it exceptionally hard for the boy to navigate through the narrow corridors. One person after the other seemed to hit him as if he were at a bumping car fair. One seemingly gigantic brute of a boy eventually smacked Hugh to the side right into an open cabin. With him and his clothes barging in as he landed on his large suitcase.
It took him a bit to regain his line of thought and locate himself on the train. As he looked up, he saw two girls sitting inside. "Well... this is awkward..." He chuckled a bit nervously.
His scottish accent rolling of his tongue. He jumped up and stiffened his stature a bit, quickly dusting off his red sweater and treaded brown trousers.
He took a deep breath and tried to calm down. “I’m Hugh Lowe, nice to meet ye” Yes, that seemed to work. Though his scottish accent was heavily present. He tried to keep it down. “I’ve got no where else to sit. Mind if I join you two in here?”

Anastasia didn't bother glancing up when she heard the compartment door open. She'd see who it was before actually gracing whoever it was with her attention. She hardly wanted to go about being too friendly to the wrong sort. She could always be warmer later. Still, when she heard someone start speaking, she was obliged to look up or risk being flat out rude. "Not yet, so you may if you'd like," Anastasia said, not coldly, but not kindly either. She'd see exactly who this girl was before being especially rude or kind. "If you want, you can go. I expect the other compartments will be filling up soon, so I would settle upon one soon, were I you."
The girl seemed a bit shy for Anastasia's tastes, but not unpleasant. Not yet, at least.
Anastasia heard another student join them and sighed inwardly. She supposed she'd see if they were worthwhile company, but she was of the preliminary opinion that neither of them had been around any humans before ever. Still, she smiled politely at the boy in the red sweater. "You're welcome to join us if you like. I'm Anastasia Beckett and I'm sure it's a pleasure to meet the two of you as well," Anastasia said to the boy. He seemed a bit scatterbrained, but not altogether hopeless. She had resolved to attempt to reserve judgment, but she wasn't doing a very good job so far.

Liliafix had nervously sat down before a small boy was pummeled into the compartment. She let out a tiny gasp and hoped no one had heard her. She observed the two people before her.
There was the girl, who to Liliafix seemed a bit cold. She seemed self-entitled, not interested in her at all. Then again, she hadn't seemed arrogant to Liliafix, just... passive. Not friendly, but not unfriendly either. However, she did seem judgmental, disapproving. Liliafix would have to wait and see.
The boy - Hugh, she learned- seemed cheerful yet awkward. He was obviously nervous, but not petrified like Liliafix was. He seemed pretty nice, a bit more friendly than the girl. Liliafix was never into boys, but she had to admit, Hugh was kind of cute. His little red sweater and Scottish accent were quite charming. Nevertheless, Liliafix was not interested in romantics.
"You're welcome to join us if you like. I'm Anastasia Beckett and I'm sure it's a pleasure to meet the two of you as well,"
Liliafix realized she hadn't even introduced herself. She should probably do that.
"Um- I- um- m-my n-name i-is Li-Li- liaf-fix T-T-Tinderly."
"I-um- I'm new to this whole m-magic th-thing. D-do either of you know what th-this is about?" L-like what are houses?
Liliafix blushed with embarrassment, ashamed of her own shyness. what would they think now?

"Right." He pointed to the two girls each on turn. "Anastasia? aaaaand... Lililiafixinnerly?" He grimaced a bit on his attempt to pronounce the girl's name. That could have been handled smoother, without a doubt. "Sorry..." He smiled awkwardly as he smacked his suitcase on a rack above their heads, folded up clohes still in his hands. He sat down next to the blonde and eyed the darker haired girl with a slightly quirked eyebrow. Ooooh she's posh. No doubt. His smirk curled up from the thin line that had been his mouth.
The scot eventually went on to answer... Lilifax? Lidiafix? Oof, I'll get it soon.
"A house is a building in which people live, usually the people belonging to one family. You know, bricks, concrete, wood." he made a small cap above his head with both hands as to resemble a roof. He smirked a bit at the blonde as he couldn't help but find himself incredibly funny. "No worries, I'm only joking." He turned a bit on the couch to face Liliafix. Yes, that was it! That's her name. "I actually read some book about this before making my way to this train. See, there apparently are four houses. Blue, yellow, red and green. They each have their own characteristics and some animal sigil. They were designed by the four founders of this school." He shrugged a bit as he smiled at her. He eventually eyed Anastasia. "Anything to add?" His eyebrow flashed up again.

Almost There
Anastasia sighed inwardly when the girl began to stutter. Her parents had always said that shy people were merely people who made nothing to say. Anastasia had been trained since childhood to think before she spoke and speak clearly and eloquently. Alright, to be fair, she still didn't always think before she spoke, but when she did speak, she didn't stutter like a fool. This girl was clearly not Slytherin material, and thus not really worth Anastasia's time. Still, she'd agreed to let her in the compartment which meant she had to at least be polite for the next while.
Anastasia rolled her eyes at the boy's explanation of houses, but couldn't hold back a small smile. "You're not technically wrong, but you're leaving a bit out. The houses are Slytherin, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Gryffindor. Slytherin is for future leaders, Ravenclaw is for the brilliant and creative that don't want to lead, Gryffindor is for those who completely lack impulse control, and Hufflepuff is for people that don't fit anywhere else," she said, reciting what her parents had said millions of times throughout her childhood. "Obviously, Slytherin is the best. Are the both of you Muggleborns?" She managed not to say Muggleborn the way her parents did, like it was a bad word, but more like it was an interesting creature that she wasn't sure what to think of. A good portion of her schoolmates would probably be Muggleborns, and it seemed foolish of her to discount and alienate a whole faction of potential minions simply because they happened to have Muggle parents.
