Poisonwood Correspondences
Backdated to early September, after the sorting ceremony.
The day was terribly overwhelming with everything had gone on, especially with the sorting ceremony. The lead up to it was nauseating, and when after almost 4 minutes the hat announced Hufflepuff, she was thoroughly disappointed. She couldn't help but resent the hat as she recalled their dispute in her mind as she insisted Slytherin to the hat, who was also insistent on Hufflepuff, and of course, the hat knew better than her. After moving all her things into the dorms, she sat on her bed, looking around at everyone else way more excited than her. What stung in her mind was telling her parents about it. Both her mother and father were sorted into Slytherin, and her older brothers were as well. Her hands shook as she pickup up a quill and piece of paper to write home... they would find out eventually, so might as well rip the band aid off. Every so often, she stopped and just stared at the blank page. What could you even say to make them less disappointed?

She sent the letter off and went to sleep, tossing and turning all night. She expected to wake up to a response, but it was nothing. The day after was nothing, and the one after that. Finally, after 4 days she received a letter back. Concetta almost didn't want to open it. Her stomach dropped as she skimmed through it.Dear mum and dad,
Good evening. The train ride was lovely, and I made a friend almost immediately. I realize I was being silly about being afraid of other people in my year. I got along with a few people. During the sorting, I was almost a hatstall! Four minutes it took to sort me... I argued with the hat for a while, but it insisted on Hufflepuff. I'm very sad I didn't make Slytherin. It's unfair! I don't think the hat was right! I tried my hardest, but it said I wasn't like Slytherin at all, even that it was the last thing I'd be sorted into. I don't know how this happened, I tried my hardest... I'm sorry.
Love,

They weren't angry, which was a plus, but it still left a bitter taste. Perhaps they could make this work anyways. She would just have to work twice as hard.Dear Concetta H. Poisonwood,
While we are glad you enjoyed making friends on the Hogwarts Express, it is hard to focus on that when met with the news of your house sorting. Near a hatstall, very rare as a witch. It seems you had plenty of time to make it known to the hat which house you were meant to be in, but you fell short. We tried your entire life to mold you into someone that is the cream of the crop, the kind that naturally get sorted into Slytherin. It's simple as anything, not rocket science. You are a born leader, so we're both unsure what the hat could have say in you that was indicative of Hufflepuff. Needless to say, we are both rather disappointed in this revelation, but we must move forward. You will have to make up for this with your academics and involvement. We expect nothing less of your best with your grades to compensate. We believe you can still rise to the top despite your house.
We've included a box of turkish delight for you. We hope it will raise your spirits. While being a Hufflepuff is not ideal, we expect you to be the best one, so don't get so bound in sadness. We're disappointed, but not angry.
With love (and kisses),
