Italics is Jennifer’s thoughts.

Jennifer slowly walked into the shop, the tiny bell tinkling. She and her parents were visiting relatives in Britain for Lunar New Year. She had a bit of downtime, so she decided to go buy some food for 月光, her silver tabby. She still remembered vividly when she first got 月光…
It was night, and Jennifer was walking back to her house after spending time with her cousins. But just as she was nearing their quaint street, she heard a soft, weak miao. Jennifer had whipped around, only to find that it was just a starving little kitten. It mewed softly, and was thin and bony, its coat ragged and coated with a sticky red liquid. When Jennifer finally realized what it was, she gasped: blood. She quickly scooped it up, ignoring the weak scratches the tiny kitten had made.
When she had reached back to her house, she quickly grabbed her mother, and laid the half-dead kitten on the table. Her mother was an experienced witch, so she knew healing spells and could brew up the quickest healing potion she had ever seen. Jennifer’s mother furrowed her eyebrows, trying to figure out what was wrong. Jennifer had sat down at their small table, watching worriedly as her mother got to work, spells flashing everywhere.
Is it okay? What’s wrong with it?” Jennifer had asked. Her mother simply shook her head, not allowing anything to disturb her while working. She murmured something, tapping her wand against the kitten. Jennifer sat back down, knowing that she won’t be getting any answers soon. She retired to her room, where she pondered endlessly about what had happened to the kitten. Jennifer had drew enough pictures of the kitten to start her own art gallery when her mother had finally knocked on her bedroom door.
The kitten is fine,” her mother said, “but it may have scarring. It was starving, and by the looks of it, half mauled to death by a more mature cat.” Jennifer ran towards the living room, staring at the kitten all wrapped up with a heavy blanket. It looked much more peaceful now that it was asleep.
A thin beam of moonlight streamed through the silk curtains, shining on the kitten. She turned that kitten over, curious to know what gender it was. It was a she. Jennifer slowly put the kitten back down, and turned around to find that the moon was shining way too bright. The kitten murmured, turning over in its sleep. A spark of inspiration struck Jennifer. I shall call you… 月光
