After her duel with Livia, Violence had come to one conclusion: she needed to practice her spells before she could actually partake in any duels for a long time. What she also knew was the fact that she loved duelling and would not be able to stay away. That left her with one option, moderate a duel. This way she could learn more spells, their incantations and stance. Watching was learning right, that's how she learned potions. It seemed that the universe was aligning perfectly for her, as Dealla, the seventh year who had been taking duelling classes with Percival suggested that Violence moderate a duel between her and her friend. Violence had jumped at the opportunity.

After looking at her schedule, she decided the best day would be the fourteenth, just the next day. As Dee had told her, her friend was Beatrice, a fifth year. Violence knew that her senior was good at duelling and she couldn't wait to see her in action. She was also sure that her friend must be as good as her, as Dee had mentioned Beatrice was a Duelling captain. Her excitement had led her to the Duelling Club as soon as her classes were over. She had a water bottle in case any of the duellists would need one, and a towel. Violence knew from experience duels could be rough. Soon enough, both Dealla and and Beatrice had also arrived.

"Hi Dee, hi Beatrice! Lovely to meet you." She explained the rules to them; no potions, no physical fights. Any display of talent they wished to do would be by their wands. She had briefly considered allowing potions, since it was an unofficial duel after all, but then decided that she better master the basics first before trying new things. She stepped back from the piste, as Dee and Beatrice took their places, before calling out. "Okay, bow to each other- aaaand one... two... three... Let's go!"

It might seem surprising considering the inordinate amount of time Dee had apparently been spending in the duelling club lately, but it had been a while since she'd gotten to properly flex her duelling muscles. Usually... she just flexed her superior knowledge of spells to awe some kids, or alleviated her boredom by giving impromptu mini duelling lessons - often unsolicited.

Violence had been the grateful involuntary recipient of one such lesson the previous day, and had seemed interesting in the formalities of a duel beyond the part where you got to sling spells at your opponent... so Dee had decided, why not? It might be a fun sort of throwback for both Dee and Beatrice, both of whom had been on the duelling team for years, spent some time as a captain - although not at the same time - and then decided to migrate to broomracing instead.

And it was simple fun, she realised with a detached sort of relief as she sauntered into the duelling club, giving Violence a cheerful wave when she spotted her. She was excited to be duelling again. None of the dread, of the trapped feeling that had accompanied her last few months on the team, or the reluctance she'd fought down with pure stubbornness during her first few ventures back.

Warm-ups were still second nature to her - she used a lot of the same exercises for racing, too - and when Violence told them to get into position, Dee gave her a little salute and grinned at Bea. "I might be out of practice, but I'm not going easy on you, just a heads up." Also, there were a whole bunch of new spells she was eager to test. Smiling, Dee spun her wand around her fingers, then sketched a vague bow at her friend. "Let's go?"

It had come as a surprise to Beatrice when Dee had approached her for this duel. She hadn't really been keeping up with the social life of her younger years, and she certainly hadn't stepped foot onto a duelling piste for a long time. Her time as captain had been well-loved during her third year, but now as a fifth, she'd swapped her wand for a broom. Just a little. Granted she used her wand still, but nowhere near to the extravagence she had during duelling.

Admittedly, Bea hadn't met this Violence, a younger eagle who was excited to moderate this duel. But Bea trusted Dee, and her housemates. It never hurt to try and one up Dee any way. Going into the duel, Bea didn't really think she was going to win. Dee was too good, had been on the team longer, and knew more spells. But what Bea could do, was provide a show. This wouldn't be an easy win for Dealla. No way.

A Bea entered the room, she smiled at Violence. "Hi! Nice to meet you too! Thanks for letting me brush the dust off!" Stretching out, she stood where she was told when she was told, standing across from Dee. She grinned at Dee's words. "Same here! I hope you're ready to be at least a little singed." She might be giving away some of her play, or she might not. Incendio had been one of her favourite spells, and she was sure at some point it would make an appearance. "I'm not going down without a fight." She bowed dramatically, arm out, wrist flicked, wand in hand. She was ready. Bea nodded as she came back up. "Let's go!"

The young witch chuckled when both the duellists promised to not go down without a fight. This would be a fun duel to moderate, even more fun to watch, she was sure of it. Both of them bowed to each other and Violence waited in anticipation as wands were raised and spells were cast. Vario Nebula by Dealla and the Cracker Jinx by Beatrice. Both were pretty solid spells to start off with.

A golden mist surrounded Beatrice and Violence was entranced by how pretty it looked. Guilt crept up the eagle's neck as she realised how Beatrice might be feeling. But there was in no way she could ignore how aesthetic the golden mist looked. Plus, she doubted that the spell would have any damaging effects. From what she knew about the spell, the target only felt like they were hanging. It could be annoying but it was better than taking any actual damage.

Violence did not have enough time to gaze at the pretty mist as loud bangs were suddenly heard from Dealla's side of the piste. She looked at Dealla just in time to see her dodge the spell. The exploding crackers burst around the dummies behind Dealla. Violence was thankful none of the crackers had exploded near Beatrice herself, or near Violence.

She clapped a little, encouraging them both. "That's a very pretty mist, I must say, Dee. Hope you're feeling alright Beatrice! Ready for round two everyone?"

She gave them both a minute to catch their breaths before calling out, "Let's get casting again!"

The smile that spread across Dee's face was significantly more exuberant than appropriate at the prospect of being at least a little singed. Perhaps it was the fading memory of the true pain that came with burns, or maybe she'd just gotten numb to reasonable self-preservation over the years. It had been a long time since she'd made close contact with fire. "I don't like this jumper anyway," she claimed, tugging at the light blue fabric, and winked at her friend. "But you'll have to hit me first. Have you been practising your aim, Bea?" Dee sure had.

Violence received a cheerful thumbsup when she called for the duel to start. Without even a second of hesitation, Dee let her wand dance - but instead of relying on instincts and falling back into old patterns, Dee tried something new. A spell she'd only learned after she had already left the team, but with an effect she'd always found intriguing. "Vario Nebula." Fascinated, she watched the golden mist stream from the tip of her wand, moving across the piste as directed. Well, at least it was pretty.

She almost paid for her distraction when the crackers came shooting her way, and she barely managed to hop-skip-hop backwards in time to avoid the explosion. "Right?" she called over in response to Violence's commentary, grinning. "The fireworks weren't bad either, although it wasn't quite the type of fire I had expected." With the firecrackers slowly fizzling out, she felt safe to focus back on Beatrice, barely visible through the mist. "I've been waiting to try that spell for years. What's it feel like?"

An electric thrill ran through Bea at the prospect of this friendly match, and quite possibly hitting Dee. The older girl was a friend, and somewhat of n idol to Bea. Dee had been her grandprefect, had had the role before Bubba, before Bea had taken oiver for him. She'd remained a constant throughout the years and a great source of knowledge in all things house and duelling related. But to square up and face her. Oh boy. She grinned a sharp toothed smile at Dee. "Oh, I've been practicing alright." Swishing her wand, she targeted it at Dee. "Nec Divinos Crepitus."

She watched as her spell missed by milimetres. The breath that Bea had been holding wooshed out of her, and the grin dropped. Dee was just too lucky, and too practised. She grimaced as Dee's spell enveloped her, the golden mist shrouding most of the duelling piste.
"I'm just fine and dandy, thanks Violence!" Her voice may have betrayed her slightly, a wobble may have been heard. It wasn't over yet though. She had a few more tricks up her sleeve, including the oh-so-mentioned fire making spell. "I've gotta keep you on your toes Dee. Couldn't have you thinking you've won just yet!" She smiled at her friend, swishing her hands ever so slightly through the golden mist. "You know, I've never seen this spell in action. How pretty it looks! Don't think it will save you now though."

Violence nodded, the fireworks were pretty as well. She thought she detected some wobbling in Beatrice's voice but she assumed that was because of the effect of the spell Dee had just cast on her. She respected Beatrice's spirit, though. She had the qualities of a sportswoman and Violence always appreciated that. Violence assumed that the effects of the spell weren't extremely hurtful if Bea was able to talk and look around. A sigh of relief escaped her lips, she didn't want either one of them getting extremely hurt. But they were in a duel, and she knew there was no getting out of this unscathed.

Her guess was proven right the moment her seniors casted their spells again. Dealla called out an enthusiastic "Surpo Energia" and it hit Beatrice squarely in the chest. Violence winced, her head jerking back at the sudden hit. She was eager to see what effect it would have, but was distracted by the cloud that seemed to be forming on Dealla's side of the piste. Violence's eyes flew shut, she knew what was coming. The poor child had been at the receiving end of the Tempest Jinx less than a week ago.

Violence turned her head, afraid of what she would see, but her eyes widened in surprise when she saw a lightning strike hit the dummy behind Dee. 'Poor dummy', she thought. It seemed to be taking all of Beatrice's spells and Violence pinned Dee as an expert dodger. Was it just her adrenalin or was she actually quick on her feet? With the way she had been teaching Percival and Violence yesterday, she assumed it was the latter.

A little clap was heard before Violence called out to them, "Amazing choices of spells by both of you! Dee you're dodging spells like a squirrel, good job! Beatrice, I'm rooting for you, you got this!"

Eager to see the duel continue, she called, "And thus, round two ends and round three begins! Get casting, people!"

Dee grinned and cocked her head, stepping forward once the firecrackers had fizzled out. "I know it's pretty, but what does it feel like?" she repeated the question. "Apparently it's supposed to make you feel like gravity is turned around? Or that you're hanging from the ground... something like that?" She glanced down at her wand, speculative. Maybe she should just test it on herself, if Bea wasn't going to be helpful about it. Not right now, though.

"I'm always on my toes," she sing-songed in response to Bea's challenge. "That's why I'm so hard to hit, eh?" And the disorienting effect of the Limbo Mist would probably not help with Bea's aim.

Flipping her wand around her fingers, Dee considered for a split-second which spell to choose next. There were the old and proven ones, of course, but why go with one of those when she could get creative instead? There was one that she'd learned just recently, that was also allowed in duelling... "Supio Energia," flowed off her tongue easily, and while her aim was a bit sloppy, Bea seemed disoriented enough that she didn't even come close to dodging it.

At the same time, foreboding clouds formed above Dee's head, and she frowned up at them, scrunching up her nose. She'd been hit by lightning before during duels, although from a different spell, and was rather less than keen on repeating the experience. There was only a split-second warning before the first bolt came crashing down, but she managed to dance out of the way just in time, fingers closing more firmly around her wand. She responded with a smug grin, setting her eyes back on Bea to gloat, and almost missed the small spark, hint of a crackle , that was the only warning she got before a second lightning bolt came racing down from above. Sacrificing grace for speed, Dee lunged to the side, the lightning coming close enough that she could taste the copper on her tongue. Close, but she'd made it. "Not bad," she said appreciatively, straightening up from the crouch she'd landed in. "Consider my toes kept." For now, however, she kept the upper hand.

"Aye, aye," she called back at Violence at the rather unnecessary reminder, a smile tugging on her lips. "Next spell coming right up!"

Bea snorted at Dee's line of questioing. Of course she was asking. Bea replied, a teasing lilt to her voice. "It's disorientating enough without all of your questions. But to answer, yeah it's pretty weird. My feet feel like they should be going up instead of down." Gravity was messing with her mind, disorientating each step she took, which effected her aim. Maybe that was why, even though her concentration was there, and her aim was there, it wasn't enough when she produced the next spell.

And although the mist was disorientating, Bea felt a small satisfaction as her spell formed above Dee's head. She hadn't thought going into the duelling room, or really when Dee had asked for this duel, that she herself would win, but Bea wasn't going to lie and say it wasn't tempting to get one up on her idol and friend.

The spell formed, dark clouds forming around the ceiling above. Tiny whispers and crackles of electricity could be heard, and Bea grinned as not one but two bolt of light came arching down towards Dee. Sadly, De with all of her grace, dodged them both.

Gripping her wand in her hand, Bea faced her friend once more. She'd said it before and would say it again. She wouldn't win this, but she would go down fighting.
