"Gringotts was an imposing snow-white multistoried marble building located partway down Diagon Alley, near its intersection with Knockturn Alley, that towered over the neighbouring shops."
| London; the square in front of Gringotts | December 23rd | 12PM |
Diagon Alley's air buzzed with the energy of an impending storm. A breeze was on the rise, but with Christmas only two days away, wixes weren't deterred from conducting holiday spending sprees. They wove through the network of shops like bees in a hive, all rustling winter coats and rattling paper bags. Yet shoppers turned their heads or stopped in their tracks altogether as a unified group marched through the chaos. To see youth gathered in school robes during break seemed strange, though perhaps that was the point: uniforms were not mandatory albeit encouraged. There was something stirring to the sight of students from every Hogwarts house, and even other schools, banding together to demand fair treatment for a former professor. Marcus had protected the students: now the students would unite in solidarity for him. Some carried signs proclaiming their purpose, demanding a fair trial for Iwasaki. Others rallied for Beings' rights as a whole, Ravenclaw's former Head-of-House serving as a catalyst for addressing old outrage. Whatever their individual drive, they intended to be heard, choosing the magical world's most concentrated street during the busiest time of the year. They staged far enough away from the businesses that they could still be accessed, doing little to disturb the Alley's natural flow, yet making every effort to have their demand heard. Justice! The cry was no longer aimed at the Ministry alone. It could be heard by passing parents, tenured patrons, and wide-eyed children witnessing their movement. The next generation craved harmony, even if that meant fighting to achieve it.

"HoH" is not an official staff-run event, it's an in-character response to recent developments. I'm not expecting to moderate this thread, it's assumed to be a slice-of-life moment in modern Hio history, but we'll see where it takes us. Students can participate by
- spreading posters around the school
- writing a letter to officials
- publicly protesting (you are here)
Context Timeline
Reducio
December 5 - Marcus accused of attacking three aurors, killing one and critically injuring + infecting the others. Paper summarized:
"It has been reported that the former head of house failed to take his allotted wolfsbane and transformed into a cursed creature known as a werewolf on the night of the full moon. ...Some say the Auror Office demanded changes to Hogwarts’ security policies and the Heads refused, choosing resignation over compliance. Some have gone as far as to claim that this was an act of retaliation on the part of Marcus Iwasaki. Headmaster Solomon Lear has refused to comment on the impending case against Marcus Iwasaki."
December 13 - Marcus undergoes "a rapid trial, lasting scarcely a day"
The Lycanthropic Defense League (LDL) publicly condemned "the Ministry’s obsession with using werewolves as scapegoats," arguing that Marcus Iwasaki was targeted because of his condition, not evidence.
SCARAB... a controversial but increasingly vocal group advocating for the rights of magical "near-beings" and marginalized half-human populations, has issued a forceful public statement condemning the verdict.
"We have seen this pattern for decades: when the public needs a monster, the Ministry conveniently finds a werewolf. Marcus Iwasaki was tried in less than a week, without transparency, without due diligence, and without respect for the complexities of his condition. This was not justice. This was fear dressed up as law."
December 14 - The Ravenclaws receive invitation to a party in their common room, only to find "the walls plastered with The Daily Prophet, like a strange papier-mâché with Professor Iwasaki's face all over it. Former Hogwarts Staff Arrested, preached the headlines that covered the walls. Marcus Iwasaki will be tried the week of December 13th. Hogwarts' Werewolf Dragged to Azkaban." (-Jessamine Lancaster).
Although Marcus has no memory of the incident and the witnesses are incapable of providing testimony, the Ministry concludes from the limited information available that he is guilty. Marcus is sentenced to a lifetime in Azkaban. The Daily Prophet states, "Wizengamot refused to directly comment on these suspicions, but state that "Iwasaki was given a fair trial like any other wizard." The paper mentions all former HoH having stepped down October 19th of this year, and slanders Headmaster Lear's ability to handle crisis, citing his disappearance after the death of his daughter.

During the event in the Ravenclaw Common Room, it's suggested that students "send owls to the Ministry. Advocate for his character, and demand a release of information. If enough of us try, we could convince someone to listen.... If they don't, we ... make posters of our own. Organize. Make clear to the public that the Ministry has bought into this bias, and protest against our professor's unjustified arrest."
December 15-19 - letter writing workshops
December 19 - posters circulate with a time, date, and location for the protest
December 23 - Protesting in Diagon Alley

Dearly as Pericles hoped that this protest would prove peaceful, he knew- as well as any Hogwarts occupant- that gathering magical students together was asking for trouble. There was always risk involved when their ken were concentrated in one place. Between inexperienced casters, raised tensions, and possible backlash from onlookers, the potential for mishap was statistically at an all-time high. An effort was made to negate the hazards with whatever help was at his disposal. Chiefly, he turned to friends his own age, with the experience only a tenure at arcane schools could provide: @Dealla Prince, @Evenlynn Decipio, @Aly Salinger, and @Eun-ji Lee Hunt. He invited the seventh-years to the Leaky Cauldron an hour early, where he was found waiting with a round of drinks, a map of Diagon Alley, and one of those all-too-grounded looks on his face. Contingencies were aligned. Pear sought their council and offered his own, highlighting escape routes should things go south. Fleeing into Gringotts was the default choice. Few would dare follow, unwilling to bring a fight into one of the most secure buildings in the entirety of wix society. Back towards the pub, or deeper into Diagon Alley, were second and third options. As an absolute last resort, he confessed his familiarity with Knockturn, though would only escort the group through its dark alleys if robbed of all alternatives. He intended to arrange upperclassmen along the outer edges to act as lookouts. A sense of responsibility hung over him like a solemn cloud. Ardently as Pericles believed in their right to dissent, they had to accept that all who joined their ranks were willing to face danger, even the children. Some may hope for it.

He carried no sign as he followed from the rear. While there was no wand in his hands, those who knew Pericles understood it to be no necessity. Words and willpower were the only focus he required to shield or disarm at a moment's notice. His Ravenclaw robes had been pressed, the Night Sky cravat Aly gifted him was tucked tidily into his collar to keep out the cold, and his house tie was wrapped around his wrist. Its bronze and blue colors gleamed with both pride and purpose.
| Semi-open to interaction, I'm going to be focused on keeping up with this thread and Pear will be busy looking out for trouble, so he'll avoid most casual exchanges. I would be happy to plan 1x1 scenes that spin off from here, but for this will aim to keep posts goal-oriented and avoid small-talk |

Maybe coming here was a mistake, but so be it. With her best friend @Cassanora Browne still on another continent, and with no desire to tell her mother where she was off to, Maddie had to make this trek alone. It wasn't a difficult journey - the wonders of the Floo Network - so she was walking the streets of Diagon Alley only an hour after leaving Colmar. The seventeen-year-old was hiding herself under the hood of a dark blue winter cloak, with only two loose braids of hair visible as a distinguishable feature. She was also wearing an enchanted fish carrying backpack Enchanted Fish Carrying Case item in trunk, is being flavored in backpack form which might draw a few looks, but she was certainly not the only owner of a Golden Veiltail that had one.

Momo had been shrinking. The vibrant fish that had reached a whopping 42cm at her full grown size, was now at 26cm. It had been a gradual change so Maddie didn't notice at first (not to mention she'd been very preoccupied lately), but a comment from her mother once she got home for the holidays meant she took a measurement. The Veiltail's tank was as large as ever so she should still be at her full grown size. When the local menagerie confirmed Momo wasn't sick, Madeleine began to speculate. Maybe the fish could sense Maddie's stress about this whole situation? Or maybe she somehow knew her former owner was rotting away behind bars?

With these theories in hand, Maddie had decided to bring the fish to the protest. Maybe Momo would be able to sense all the support and perk up a bit. Or maybe Maddie was being an idiot for believing that the fish was like a dog and able to sense things like this. More likely, Maddie just wanted company for however this turned out.

Turning the corner down the street towards Gringotts, Madeleine Nakamura's eyes widened. There really was a protest here. She had been half expecting this to be some rumor that had started at Beauxbatons, like the nasty rumors that had been spread about him. But here it was - a collection of students, in and out of uniform, marching this very crowded street with posters and signs.

She got close enough for one of them to pass her a poster, and she saw her father staring up at her. "Justice, Not Scapegoats." Maddie took in the words on the page, releasing a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding. This was real. People were really on his side. They saw the absolute sham of a "trial" as clearly as she and Cass did. Writing letters with her had been helpful, but it wasn't enough. This was what Maddie wanted. She wanted more people to be angry. She was angry. The last month had been a rollercoaster of emotions, but standing here and seeing all the people protesting - it really brought out how furious she was. How could an entire Ministry of people let this happen? Did they really think they could just pull wool over their eyes? More likely, they thought no one would care about him. Just another werewolf, another attack. But they had underestimated Marcus' students - like Maddie had.

Madeleine clutched the poster from the outskirts of the protest, hesitating to join despite wanting to. She had never done anything like this, and coming here alone was more intimidating than she had expected. She was a performer and stage fright was a foreign idea for the witch, but here it was rearing its ugly head. Could this really result in change? She could tell this wasn't just about Marcus Iwasaki - people wanted to use this to talk about Part-Being rights as a whole - but all she wanted was the Ministry to stop covering up the facts of what had happened. Was it selfish to be here in that regard? What would he think of all this anyway? A million thoughts raced through her mind as she watched the crowd of protesters.
Open to Interactions | Specifically could use someone to be a pal and encourage/drag her into the protesting itself, rather than watching from the sidelines. Alternatively open to the idea of someone recognizing Momo from Marcus' office, but your character would have to be pretty keen eyed for that.
Madeleine is a Charmer.
You are just distracting. Distracting to look at perhaps. Maybe it is your wit or your charm, your grace or something else about you that is intangible but absolutely present.
Madeleine is a Lovely Creature.
You are so incredibly beautiful, it is hard to take ones eyes off of you.

Eun-ji still wasn’t quite sure how she came to be here. Everything happened so fast that she had barely any time to process it. By all accounts, this was the type of setting she would try to avoid at any cost, but every now and then, exceptions had to be made.

The Ravenclaw was already suspicious when their headmaster suddenly decided to dispose of all the Heads of houses…even if he probably wouldn’t appreciate her labeling it as such. But hearing about Marcus being arrested and swiftly deemed guilty? Condemned in a time it took most people to tie their shoes? That truly made her stomach churn. Of course, Eun-ji wasn’t there and couldn’t say for sure whether he was or wasn’t guilty but the way they rushed the whole thing left a bitter taste in her mouth. Marcus was one of the few adults at Hogwarts she still somewhat trusted. He was not warm or soft but he was fair and clearly cared for his students. He was also the one, who guided her through her animagus ritual step by step, even though he was busy at the time. Steady and thorough. Careful to explain everything in advance so she could do the full moon portion without his presence. He always came across as very responsible, which she liked. Despite all those feelings however, Eun-ji had already an endless supply of her own worries so she couldn’t hyper focus on those news.

But then the uproar in their common room happened and the posters instantly caught her eye…almost as if mocking her. Too busy with your own ugly mess to care? Her brain scorned. Eun-ji didn’t like to meddle but when Peri told her about the protest, she couldn’t bring herself to say no. Not just for his or Marcus’ sake, but also for any of the people present. The Ravenclaw wasn’t being noble by any means. Long gone were the times when she’d naturaly worry about the protesters. It was her sense of duty to help, which had been instilled into her very being by her father, that gave her the final push. She could never hear about a potentially dangerous situation, without the subtle nagging urge to be there to assist in case things went sideways. And so, even though she hadn’t gone home for Christmas for several years now, this time she did just that.

Needles to say, there was no Christmas celebration or warm welcome waiting for her. Only her grandparents on her porch to pick her apart upon arrival like a pair of starving vultures. Yet all that was secondary. She endured them. In fact, she even casually tossed the Marcus’s situation onto the table like a lit match. Predictably, neither of the Hunts gave anything up, if they even had any details to begin with, they wouldn’t share them with her. However, it was clear where their sympathies lied. They landed precisely where she expected so the witch didn’t tell them about attending the protest. She had no desire for them to tattle about it with their colleagues though she secretly preened at the opportunity to ruffle their feathers. Because she knew. Once they heard about it and realized she took part, they’d be mortified. She’d be in quite a bit of trouble thanks to that but she couldn’t care less. Let the embarrassment ripple through their precious social circles, she’d bear the consequences. It was the right thing to do and it wouldn’t be the first nor the last time, she made her grandparents livid.

The house was blissfully empty, when she left the house in the morning to meet with her classmates at the Leaky Cauldron. She was wearing her school uniform and carried an enchanted satchel filled with both muggle and wizarding medical supplies. From her father’s stash, she brought well-stocked first aid kit and from her mother’s cabinet, she snatched various healing potions. Some might call it overkill, Eun-ji called it being prepared. Since she accepted the responsibility of keeping an eye on everyone, she refused to show up empty handed. The ideal scenario would be for all those items remain where they were. Entirely unnecessary. Nonetheless, it didn’t hurt to be cautious.

Now standing at the outer edge of the crowd as agreed with Peri and the others. She mostly focused on her role as a lookout. Though she was there to aid the cause, she didn’t wave a sign. Rather she held onto her wand with one hand and gripped the shoulder strap of her satchel with the other. Supporting Marcus was important but he was not here. If things got out of hand, he would not be the one in danger. The students were...and she doubted he’d be happy to hear any of them got hurt on his account. So Eun-ji watched the gathering like a hawk, conscious of any rising tensions or outside dangers. Ready to step in, the moment she was needed.

Though she will be determined to find her friend Madeleine in all the chaos.

Protests were bound to happen one day. Cassanora had not planned to cut her travels short when news reached even her ears in the Amazon. She had only just been able to establish contact with one of the Muki there when the letter arrived. And once she read it, she knew her little vacation would have to wait. Because there was someone back home that would need her more than ever.

They had been corresponding of course. After Cassanora graduated a year early from Beauxbatons Academy, they knew it would take effort in mainatining a regular exchange of communication wherver she'd go. Maddie would need to focus on finishing her studies, while Cass would do who-knos-what. It had not taken much convincing from her father for Cass to decide to take a gap year. She deserved some well-earned rest after all the effort she had gone through to impress the likes of Monsieur Monserrac and Madame de la Croix-Valmer.

And with that decision followed another. To pursue her dream of learning about goblin culture. While she had the time on her hands, it seemed most fitting to set out and find the more remote societies first. Several goblins in Diagon Alley already knew her from years of visits and interactions. They had always been amazed at her understanding of Gobbledegook. Though she was well-aware it still needed work if she desired to be truly indistinguishable from the actual native speakers.

She arrived at Diagon Alley through the Leaky Cauldron's entrance. After about half-a-day's travel from one portkey onto another, Cassanora had sent her aunt on her way back. Thanking her father's sister for being her temporary travelling companion. Aunt Caerys was the literal adventurer of the family. She and her husband had taken part of many expeditions over the course of their lives. Though the arrival of their children put an abrupt stop to it. Caerys had been happy to accompany her niece to South America, missing the great outdoors a great deal.

Now Cass was by herself again. She looked around the entrance of the Alley to see if there were any familiar faces already. There was still a lot of unclarity on what exactly was transpiring today. Some sort of protest, sure. And the fact it was to clear Marcus' name was part of the reason she had decided to show up. But she was cautious to see where things would lead. Wizardkind was not known for its level-headedness.

The main reason she was here had not revealed herself yet. Where could Maddie be? Cassanora tried her hardest to stand on the tips of her toes to try and see above the crowd, but it was to no avail. She did register that more and more people were starting to turn their attention to a group of students centered in front of Gringotts' great bronze doors. A sense of pride washed over her and she could not help but smile at the thought of the students' loyalty to their former Head of House.

Poor Marcus. Her heart ached thinking of where the man was now. Azkaban had a horrible reputation before the Second Wizarding War. But over the years it had not exactly lost much of said reputation. At the very least the dementors were no longer there. Or so the Ministry claimed at least. They claimed a lot of things these days. As she looked around to try and find Maddie in the many faces before her, she was glad to know many people, though mostly younger ones, still were willing to stand up for what was right. Honestly, no trial? What did the Ministry think would happen?

An older witch dared to criticise the protesting students. Cassanora was quick to place herself face-to-face with the elderly lady, scolding her for leaving the real work towards a fair society to the young folk. After she turned back around and left the woman to her own ignorance, Cass was sure she saw the flash of a glass bowl glinting in the crowd.

Where Pericles had been busy making plans and backup plans, along with backup plans for the backup plans, Dee had whole-heartedly thrown herself into the spirit of the protest. That had included some clumsy crafting, delaying her return to Whitehaven for a few days, and announcing the adjustment of their winter break plans to her boyfriend with a rhetorical "Hi babe, how do you feel about werewolf rights?"

The 23rd of December at 11 o'clock thus found her sipping the warm mug of butterbeer in the Leaky Cauldron with the other seventh years, leaning against Mad on one side of her with Aly on the other. Part of the table was also occupied by a stack of protest signs and the leftover posters she hadn't managed to distribute at Hogwarts before the break (not for lack of trying). She'd brought spares, to hand out to anyone who might have come less well-prepared than she had, plus any innocent passers-by that could potentially be dragged into the protest. The pin she'd gotten from @Robin Marie flashed on her coat, proclaiming I AM A WEREWOLF as she leaned forward to study Peri's escape plans. Memorised them, both to calm Peri's nerves and because they did have a responsibility here, to everyone they'd convinced to come.

It was a long shot, she knew that. They were only a bunch of Hogwarts students, after all; even if she and her friends were all legal adults at this point. She could still feel the anticipatory tension thrumming under her skin, the hope that they might make a difference, that someone in the Ministry might listen.

Half an hour later she was marching out front, wielding a sign that said "Q.E.D.? HARDLY." and still oddly surprised at the number of people that had showed up. Despite the effort they'd put into campaigning, she hadn't expected word to spread like this, even beyond the confines of their school, judging from some of the unknown faces around. Some had already mixed into the crowd, but others seemed to need more convincing - such as the pretty girl with the vaguely familiar face holding one of their posters, close but clearly separate from the group. (Not for long, if Dee had anything to say about it.)

Brandishing one of her spare signs - the one that spelled "BIGOTRY ISN'T EVIDENCE" - she unceremoniously shoved it into the girl's hand, flashing her most charming smile to forestall any resistance. "Less staring, more protesting!" she singsonged, beckoning for the girl to take that final step and join them as she raised her voice to start up a chant.

"WIZENGAMOT, DO YOUR JOB!"

Though Hugh is currently standing by Gringotts' doors, not by the crowd.

It had been Magrin himself who came and ordered his youngest trainee to take a look outside. Hugh had been more expectant of yet another test of the old goblin's devising. But a protest run by students certainly was not one of the possibilities he could have come up with. It was a good thing he never gave praise to his own imagination.

As the half-giant lined up with his fellow guardsmen, creating a defensive line around the bank entrance, he stuck out like a sore thumb among the Gringotts staff, especially the goblins. He began inspecting the scene with great care. There were plenty of faces he recognized from years of passing. A few Ravenclaws at first glance, whom he had never really struck a conversation with. Though their appearances had been noted. Especially the shock of white hair of a Pericles Dralt was hard to forget.

It did not take him long to understand the message that was being presented. There were signs written in nice big fonts after all. But it turned out the students of Hogwarts were not going to wait for the other werewolves to come forward and fight Iwasaki's imprisonment. He wondered what they thought would think of this spectacle, or even Iwasaki himself. Hugh had almost no memory of the man. He could only picture the former Head of Ravenclaw sitting far away beside his peers in a neat looking waistcoat.

Fear also crossed his mind. What if the Ministry were to retaliate? Crack down even harder on the werewolves? Perhaps bring back some older regulations before Shacklebolt's time. If he considered the reality of things, the students would eventually have to go back to their protected school grounds, but the rest of society was still out here, under the Ministry's thumb. As a half-giant, Hugh understood discrimination. Still, werewolves were seen as monsters that spread a disease if left unchecked. That was far worse than suffering a few remarks on your height or thick-headedness.

The skin under his sideburns began to itch with anticipation. If anyone had told him he would be witnessing a protest run by students in his life, he would not have expected himself to stand where he stood. Not on this side of the fence. But this was the bank they were protesting at. It was the source of his employment now. He understood perfectly well why that place in particular had been chosen. There was no square to gather at in front of the Ministry. It was only accessible through smaller hidden entrances. Diagon Alley was exposed and a hub for European wizardkind. And so Gringotts was not merely a bank. It resembled much more than the cold cavern vaults stocked with wizard blood money. It represented the old ways of pureblood society condemning the half-breeds and cursed.

He considered the pureblood families resistance to change as folly. Their need for control felt so... unnatural. Like they were trying to control the tides by chugging buckets of water back into sea. Hugh had learned much from his time with his grandfather by now. While he had been summoned to learn the way the Lowes of old did things, he had also considered their weakness. It required an enormous amount of effort to try and stay in control. Each little act that stepped out of line required restructure and heavy support to try and press things back into the mold of 'tradition'.

Hugh turned his head towards the goblins standing by his side. What did they believe? Goblins knew they still were not considered equal to most within the wizarding world. But Gringotts was also their home base here on the island. Hugh feared the students would not gain the support of his employers today. The werewolves would be stupid to expose themselves and the part-Veela's were hardly considered discriminated as it was. Why would they bother?

The last question that lingered in the back of his throat was one he had to answer for himself. "What were the giants going to do?"

Taking a long train ride over the Christmas break had been a small price to pay to attend the demonstration the day before Christmas Eve. It was the ideal time to plan the event, considering that many of the wizarding world would be visiting Gringotts and Diagon Alley to gather any last-minute holiday gifts. What they hadn't known they'd be witnessing was a large group of students and various adults alike gathered in support of Marcus Iwasaki's right to a proper trial. The sham of an investigation and the lack of transparency had led the students to plan this formal protest, hoping against all hope that at least someone in power would heed their sentiments. The heart of the British Wizard World - the place where all people in power store their valuables and assert their force over others with less sway. The place that signifies wealth and influence in a way like no other ever possibly could, besides perhaps the Ministry of Magic itself. Robin had no idea where the Ministry for Magic was located. She'd never been, and for all she knew, it was in a pocket dimension above them right now - Robin could almost hear them mocking the protestors with a mug of coffee and a donut, finding them all entertaining and foolish. It was saddening for Robin to know that their efforts would most likely be futile. But, if she learned anything from her deep dive into other-species and students with mixed magical blood, it's that her struggle as a black girl in Wales went hand-in-hand with their struggle to be seen as genuine beings with the same rights afforded to fully human witches and wizards. So for that reason, she'd taken to the streets.

Robin, after a little bit of convincing, had persuaded her two closest friends (@Maisie Gemmell & @Adeline Spinks) to join her. After a nearly five-hour ride, Robin was ecstatic to have arrived in support of a movement that needed every possible voice to influence the ministry. Collective engagement was the only way that they would listen - and the letters hadn't worked. So this was the next option. The outright refusal to release any information about Iwasaki's trial only leads people to speculate about a cover-up.

The day was chilly, even with the sun directly overhead. Robin tightened her scarf around her neck as she approached the already gathered group of students in the square. She grinned, pleased, when she noticed a couple of the Hogwarts upperclassmen with pins on the front of their robes - specifically, @Dealla Prince, whom Robin had volunteered to help advertise the protest to the students of Hogwarts in a way that many students disagreed with. Either way, all of her howling and hollering had spurred the conversations to the cause just as she had planned. Robin waved at Dealla, shoving her way through the crowd to be in the center of things, only a few feet away from the familiar shouts of the girl who had shut down the first-year student who'd suggested debating the rights of Werewolves in the chaotic meeting in the Ravenclaw Common room. Robin had instantly liked her. Anyone who wasn't afraid to speak up for what they believed in was solid in her books - as long as they weren't completely ignorant, that is. Still, their age gap was considerable, and Robin wasn't the most outgoing of witches, especially outside the comforts of the walls of Hogwarts. It was a bit more... real here. In Diagon Alley... With fully grown witches and wizards going about their business, all of whom have much more practical experience and common knowledge than she could even pretend to have.

Staying a few feet away from the seventh-year Raven, Robin scanned the crowd for her friends. She'd suggested to her fellow duellists to meet her in the square - but looking around at the menagerie of bustling bodies, Robin realized it might not have been the soundest idea. The only idea that came to mind for signalling her friends her location would be... well. Make herself quite known. And despite the anxiety coursing through her blood, telling her not to make a ruckus, Robin knew that her destiny had already been sealed since the moment she arrived in Diagon Alley. Her spirits were far too high not to participate with her usual candidness. So she shook off the remaining nerves with conviction and made her decision.

Unbuckling her satchel, Robin reached her hands deep inside, her elbows disappearing into the folds of the magically enhanced bag as she rummaged for the poster board she had prepared at home. It wasn't much - just a hand-painted picket sign with big bold letters claiming, "STUDENTS FOR LYCANTHROPE RIGHTS!", but Robin was ecstatic to show it off nonetheless. Throwing her satchel back over her shoulder, Robin lifted the sign, pulled her scarf down from over her mouth so as not to be muffled, and began to chant with and at the growing crowd.

Robin shouted into the air, turning to the passers-by on the street, eyes still peeled for her friends' arrivals as she raised her poster high and began to chant.

"FAKE TRIAL, NO TRUTH! NO GUILT WITHOUT PROOF!!"
"HEY HEY! HO HO! EQUALITY FOR LYCANTHROPES!"
"THE PEOPLE, UNITED, WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED!"
“NO HATE! NO FEAR! ALL BREEDS WELCOME HERE!”

The Gemmells arrived together in Diagon Alley that December via floo powder. That is, father and daughter arrived in front of Gringotts with two sets of pro-werewolf pins (hers and Robin's) in their lapels. Callum had his magical camera in hand, eager to report on what was going on. And in the other, he held taut to Maisie, who had an easier time manoeuvring through the crowd due to both her smaller stature and her need to meet with her friends, Addie and Robin. The latter had really encouraged them to attend, and once her father got word of it, Maisie was definitely in.

"There!" she called as the crowd came into view, "There they are!" Maisie's gait picked up as the box of crocheted pins shook in her hands. Behind her, she could hear her father reminding her not to drop it as she curled it further into her chest. Meanwhile her Ravenclaw scarf curled around her neck and trailed behind her with every step.

Fortunately, it took little time to locate Robin specifically, which was anything but surprising. Her friend's courage in making sure her voice was heard was unmatched as she raised her sign up and was already leading the chants. She reached to pull on Robin's sleeve and wave. "Hi, we made it. I brought you more pins," she said as she held up an example of a crochet pin for Robin to take, "Oh, and this is my dad." Behind her Callum raised a hand for her to shake, saying "It's so nice to meet one of Maisie's friends. Good work you're doing here." Then he took a few moments to remind his daughter he'd be around the crowd, taking some images, and to use the mirror if she needed him. Maisie nodded and gave him a hug before settling in beside Robin as she had in the Great Hall before. Once she was up there, she took a moment to scan the area for Addie, who she was sure would be along soon enough.

As she so, she caught a glance of Dealla Prince, one of the organizers who she knew not terribly well, but in a time like this that didn't seem to matter very much. "Dee, here take some of these and pass them around," she tried to get her attention in an attempt to get her to take a scoop of the handmade pins and pass those around. She thought perhaps she should have brought a smaller box or something to make this easier. But perhaps that was a problem for next time.

Meanwhile, as Robin chanted in the background, she had an idea. "Hey, do you want to do like a call and response? Like you do one part and maybe we can get everyone to do the other part of the chant?" she suggested as she clapped. Maybe that wouldn't work well, she didn't know. But she knew the stories her father had told her of something like this. And she wanted to support Robin and the others—and Professor Iwasaki—the best she could.

The bitter cold brushed Ari's pale face as he walked down Diagon Alley, his school robe whipping around him with the occasional gust of wind. It felt odd to wear it on Christmas break, but it had a purpose. He knew what he was here for. He knew he would find his colleagues outside Gringotts executing the protest they had planned a little over a week ago in Ravenclaw's common room. He knew they had gone to great lengths to create posters and other various items to brandish and wear for this occasion, but Ari had found himself in an abyssal pit of grief leading up to today. In truth, he had considered not going when he woke up this morning. He knew he needed to do this though. He couldn't sit idle when justice needed to be demanded.

The discussion he had with his parents about this after returning home for break was not an easy one to initiate, especially when his mom worked for the Ministry. While she assured him that she did not have a direct involvement in what happened, she knew she still had a duty to serve and protect the wizarding people of Britain. Therefore, she actually made the call to miss work and join the protest with her son and his peers. She had always done everything she could to advocate for the underrepresented and overlooked in society. That was a core source of rift when she married into this family, but she didn't care. To her, all deserved justice and love in such a cruel world. Unfortunately, despite his interest, Mr. Gwild was unable to attend due to a work trip on the other side of the country, but he would hopefully return just in time for Christmas.

"Do you know who all is here?" Elvera asked, shoving her gloved hands in the pockets of her long black coat, looking around to see if she could spot where the students were gathered.

"Pericles put this whole thing together, but I would expect Dealla to be here as well. There were a few seventh years in the room when we started conspiring," Ari replied, shifting the straps of the guitar case on his back and readjusting his beanie. He had packed the instrument along with a sheet of paper with a protest song he had thrown together in hopes it would draw attention to their cause. Music brought all kinds of people together. Why not use his gift for good?

"I see. Well, I do hope they know that my support is with them. I stand with all of you." She placed a hand gently on his shoulder and smiled. The spitting image of the same smile Ari always shared with his teammates before a broom race. A smile could encourage and enlighten even the darkest circumstances. Smiles were needed on a day like this. She split away from her son to try and locate another parent in the crowd to speak with.

It was a quick and easy process to find the group courtesy of the signs and yelling. Ari recognized Peri and Dee right away as well as Robin. He had not spoken with Robin but remembered her face by the fire eating popcorn when things got heated in the common room. Peri held up the back of the crow while Dee and Robin were at the center with some more unfamiliar faces. He had seen the girl at the edge of the crowd with the first-aid kit before, recognizing her as a fellow Ravenclaw, but was not sure of her name. What would those who saw his outburst last week see him any differently now that he was here? It had to have left some sort of impact, and Ari said a silent prayer it wasn't as negative as he expected.

"Hello, everyone," He gave a small wave to Dee and Robin, unsure if Peri was able to see him from where he stood. He glanced next to him and saw a girl holding a poster. He dipped his head in acknowledgement, his eye wandering to her backpack. "Forgive me if I'm in your w-"

Ari froze, his voice catching in his throat when he realized what was in her backpack. It was a beautiful happy goldfish swimming around, taking in the scenery of this strange environment. It glanced at Ari, watching him with simple eyes. Just like Verne did. He immediately felt sick and took a step away from her. She probably found his actions strange, and he felt bad for leaving such an awkward first impression, but the wound was still too fresh. He had to go somewhere else before he broke apart. It would be wrong to do that when he needed to focus on more important things right now. So, all he could croak out was "Sorry.", barely above a whisper.

He shuffled quickly around the crowd, looking for somewhere else to take up space and raise his voice. He found himself standing next to Dee as took the guitar off his back and unzipped the case. This would take his mind off of things. It had to. He had to stay occupied, couldn't let his mind stick with itself too long after the encounter he'd just had. "Looks like you've made quite the impression already," He commented to her, looking around him at the cacophony of people asking for change. "Hopefully I can be of some degree of assistance..."
