The Letter

Date:15-01-26
It was just about 2 hours before curfew and Laasya had decided to visit the Owlery to see if her parents had sent a letter. She knew there wouldn’t be any letter most of the time; her parents being muggles usually used their phones and had some trouble writing letters. Well, to Laasya’s surprise, she was delivered a letter by a small, brown owl. Laasya smiled for a second before frowning. If her parents had sent an owl this soon, it meant that something was wrong, very wrong. But where could she read her letter. The common room was not an option due to the noise. The library also as she was expected to be studying there. Then Laasya remembered somewhere, the Abandoned Toilets. She heard some people talking the other day about it and how nobody ever came there. She clutched the letter and went of there.
The toilets were dark and stinky. No wonder they were known as the ‘Abandoned Toilets’. Laasya found an area and began to read, her hands shaking.
Dear Laasya,
I am so sorry to say this to you but your mother is very sick. Just yesterday, she had been diagnosed with lung cancer. We have tried everything we can but there is little chance of her making it. I have tried to call her sister but they are not answering.
Laasya put down the letter, trembling in shock. Her mother, the one who took care of her whole life had been diagnosed with lung cancer with little hope of surviving. Laasya tried not to cry but it was no use, tears started dripping down anyways. She then dried her tears, tried to look normal and prepared to leave.

_______________________§__________________ReducioAzrael is NOT a dhampir or a vampire, he's just weird, his skin is sensitive to the sun because he and his family are loners and prefer going out sometimes at night only because it usually means that not a lot of people are around, which has caused his skin to not get used to the sun properly and thus now it gets red and irritated when he's out during the day if he doesn't have any protection from the sun- yes, he's considered unsettling and eerie but it's not his aura, it's his eyes, they're big and owl like and he has a bad habit of accidentally spacing out and staring at people intently when they talk, so people consider him eerie, this was placed here to prevent misunderstandings.
________________________§_________________Azrael hadn't intended to walk into the abandoned toilets, but he couldn't help it after seeing how sunny it was outside compared to the abandoned toilets...
It was the perfect place to just stay in for a while- so, as he went inside, he almost accidentally bumped into a girl his age...
He hadn't seen her, as both of them had been in the entrance at the same time- still, as he looked up he realized her eyes were red and slightly puffy...had she been crying? Seems like it.
Azrael tilted his head, his big eyes narrowing as he stared intently at her, not really bothering to blink as he looked her up and down...had something bad happened to her? Is that why she was crying? Maybe.
_______________________••__________________§- "...are you alright?"
_______________________••__________________he asked, titling his head further as he continued to stare...it's quite unsettling really, how he doesn't blink? Still, hopefully it doesn't scare her off- the last thing he'd want is to accidentally scare someone who's already upset.
Especially when that someone looks genuinely sad- what could have possibly happened? He hasn't heard of anything bad happening around the school, and he almost always hears gossip because of all the small places he hides in to rest...
Anyone would be surprised to know the amount of breakups, arguments and even stories Azrael has heard JUST from being out of sight at the wrong time.
It's always awkward... especially when he tries to leave to not listen any further and they realize he heard them.
He doesn't mean to..but when he's sitting in the dark and people enter a seemingly more "private" space such as the abandoned toilets? There's a 90% chance Azrael is already there, hiding from the heat or from one of his overly enthusiastic friends trying to drag him outside into the sun.
But still, hopefully she's alright.

The Letter

Laasya was about to leave the toilets, trying not to cry and return to her dorm and meet her cat, who would be able to comfort the young witch when she accidentally bumped into someone. Laasya was confused as she thought nobody came over to these parts. And why would anybody come to the abandoned toilets. It was dark, dirty and stinky with possibilities of a ghost named ‘Moaning Myrtle’ lurking around or that’s what she heard from her peers.
Anyways, Laasya was about to get out of there, having being startled of the presence of someone in such a dreary place, the person being someone who she might have seen in Charms. Or was it in Herbology? Laasya was not very good at memorizing people’s faces unless she knew them for a long time. Then they asked if she was alright. Laasya was shocked. Nobody, except for her parents and teachers and best friend had asked if she was alright. Not even that time when in 1st grade, at school Laasya had hurt her knee pretty badly and blood began to come out of it. For 5 whole minutes, no kid bothered to check on her until a teacher came and bandaged her knee.
“Nothing, just leaving to see my cat, if she is left alone, she will irritate everyone in my dorm.” Replied Laasya, trying to look normal while clutching the still open letter. Laasya glanced at the mirror. She looked terrible, her eyes looked like it was wearing Gryffindor colours. But it was a try, right?

______________________§___________________Azrael's eyes narrowed as he continued to stare, staying silent for a moment as he stopped to think...
It's clear she's not fine, but should he push? Maybe.
______________________••___________________§- "... you're lying."
_____________________••____________________he suddenly said calmly, as if it was a very well known fact, he's very observant and attuned people's emotions- so he knows for a fact that she's not fine and trying to sound okay so no one will suspect she was upset.
_____________________••____________________§- "...I won't push if you don't want me to, but I can tell you're not alright... sometimes talking to someone can help you assimilate things better."
_______________________••__________________Azrael's father knew a man who used to act like he was fine all the time, it took him YEARS to open up to someone about his feelings and struggles...
To this day, Azrael still gets stories every now and then from Azrael's father- about how his friend only realized he could open up to other people after he was reassured completely.
And even then, he still struggled.
Of course, no one would expect him to get used to it right away...you don't go your whole life keeping things to yourself and then Immediately jumping to talking to people about your struggles in a day with 0 issues.
Still, all Azrael can hope is that this girl is alright... he'd hate to know that something bad happened and she had no one to talk to about it.

The Letter

Eventually, Laasya decided to tell the truth. It was a bit strange, opening up to a person whose name she did not even know, but at this point, who cared? “My mother….” She began, struggling to find the correct words, “she is very sick! She was diagnosed with lung cancer, and I only found out today! I would have been right there by her side but I can’t come home right now!” She finished saying the truth while breathing heavily. Tears started to well up in the witch’s eyes again and they travelled through her face like a fast river.
Laasya had never cried this much, not even when she got hurt, but now seeing her own mother, who she loved dearly, in critical condition, upset her greatly. Laasya wondered if they should get out of there, in order to prevent ‘Moaning Myrtle’ from finding them, but maybe she did not exist as she had been inside for at least 10 minutes and she did not arrive. Laasya looked for her handkerchief in her pocket, and discovered she had left it at her dorm. The letter her father had sent, had become soggy after all the crying. A letter was always a treat, as her parents used their phones before Hogwarts. Just the thought of her mother made tears well up in her eyes again.

______________________§___________________her mother is sick? Well, that was not at all what he was expecting to hear.
He had expected maybe something had simply gone wrong during class, of perhaps she had a fall out with a friend...then again, it's not uncommon for things like these to happen, so he should have probably seen it coming.
Now, he's never actually talked to anyone who has a sick parent... especially not with a disease so severe as that one.
But he would do his best to help her...he doesn't think anything he'll say could possibly make her feel all happy and cheerful, but he could at least hope to ease her worries- if only a little bit.
_____________________••____________________§- "...I'm... really sorry to hear that...I can't imagine what you're going through right now and I know that nothing I ever say can make things better...but if you want someone to talk to, you can always come to me."
_____________________••____________________he spoke, although a bit hesitantly- trying to gather the correct words to say.
Although actually finding the right ones might be pretty tricky.
_____________________••____________________§- "... perhaps you could send a letter back? I know it may not be much, but sometimes writing about how we feel- especially for people we care about to understand- can help us feel better and process things more easily...even if they take a while to respond, or don't respond at all- you can rest easy knowing that they understand how you're feeling and that they know you're thinking about them even if you can't be there physically."
______________________••___________________Azrael can't imagine his own mother going through something like this, they're very close and he would also be devasted like he's never been before if something like that were to happen.
He would never expect this girl to handle things with calm, after all...who would be calm and not bat an eye after getting such terrible news delivered? Even Azrael would probably be shaken (despite his usual stoic nature).
______________________••___________________§- "...the letter doesn't have to be long or we'll put together, but perhaps it could bring comfort to your mother... knowing that her daughter is thinking of her, even if she can't be there at the moment."
_____________________••____________________at least he hopes it would, after all- everyone's different...but it doesn't hurt to try, right? At least for her own sake.
And even then, she could rest easy (at least for a little bit) knowing that her family knows she's thinking about them.

The Letter

“Maybe your right.” Laasya started, while checking around for ‘Moaning Myrtle’ She stood there at the entrance of the toilets, her feet tapping while her mind seemed to be in the clouds. “That is actually a good, no brilliant idea! Thank you, thank you, thank you so much!” Laasya said, the joy she had before reading the letter. It had at least been 10 minutes since Laasya felt genuinely happy.
"By the way, what's your name?" Laasya asked the boy who was actually concerned about her well being. "Mine's Laasya, Laasya Manjunath". She introduced. Normally, this was the first question she would ask a person she was meeting the first time, but there was so much going on with the letter and news and everything. Laasya knew she had to get out of the creepy place and go to the great hall with all the other students before dinner or curfew started but there was time for some more talking, right?
Laasya asked the boy "Did your parents teach you how to be empathetic? Just curious. And also are your parents wizards or muggles like mine? And what is your favorite subject? Mine is Charms." Before preparing to leave. She would start writing that letter as soon as dinner was over. She knew that no matter what happened, everything was going to be okay.
