Hello?
It was a surprisingly warm day, so I’d volunteered to go to the village to get food from the La Favière market. I didn’t understand why my grandma refused to go to the normal muggle supermarket, as we didn’t need anything special, however, at the market there were a few secret stalls that accepted galleons.Day - Saturday 16th August
Time - 1:20pm
After buying all of the necessary food, I still had a few sickles left, so I decided to buy some pepper imps, an English food which had somehow come to France.
Then, I walked towards the beach, as I loved looking at the blue waters.
I went to sit on my favourite bench. Then, once I was settled, I pulled out Magical Drafts and Potions - my English copy, as I couldn’t be bothered to translate the French on such a nice day.
There were loads of tourists walking past, and playing in the sea. It wasn’t really a surprise, as there was a campsite nearby, but there were a lot more than in past years.
I spent a few minutes listening to their conversations, just hearing lots of tiny bits of sentences.
Then, I looked back down at my book, and flipped a few pages, before reading from where I was.

Hello?
Day - Saturday 16th August
Time - 1:20pm with @Cinder Blaze
This summer my parents decided to spend a few days in France. They had been there a long time ago, but never with us. We packed our suitcases two days before leaving because on the morning of the big day, we had to leave very early to reach the Channel Tunnel. I was quite excited and nervous at the same time. I had been learning French since I was 8 years old and knew the basics well, but if I had to engage in a long conversation, it might be a little more complicated. We arrived in France and shortly after, we boarded a plane, because we were going to Marseille, I think. To Faviere beach, to be precise. The plane was scarier than the train, and I was happy to arrive. It wasn't late, so to make the most of the end of the day, we explored our destination a bit. When evening came, we went to bed early. I shared my room with my four brothers, and we laughed a lot before finally falling asleep.
The next day we went to the market. It was very crowded, and I was clinging to my older brother's hand. The crowd frightened me, and I felt quite uneasy. My mother suggested I go for a walk near the beach if it would make me feel better. I didn't need to be asked twice and set off at a brisk pace. As I walked, I noticed a young girl on a bench. One detail about her caught my eye. She was wearing an eye patch, probably to hide an injury she was trying to conceal. I noticed she was reading a book. Whenever there was a book, I wanted to talk to the person holding it. In a shy, hesitant voice, I asked her in heavily accented French:
"Excuse me, but could I ask what book you're reading?"
Hello?
I was quite shocked to hear a voice right next to me, and quickly looked up. It was a girl, probably a bit younger than me. Then, realising that I had been staring at her, I thought back to what she had said, and replied,French | English
"Oh. It's a school book."
I didn't want to say straight out what the book was about, in case she was a muggle, but decided it was best not to fully lie, just twist the truth.
Then, I realised that even though she had been speaking in French, she had quite an accent that definitely wasn't local. Deciding to take a small risk, I asked, in English:
"Are you English?"
I was glad, for once, that my family was English, and spoke English at home, as it meant that I didn't have a particularly weird accent, and that I was fluent.
I realised that it must look really rude that I was just sitting there while she was standing, so I asked, "Do you want to sit down?"
I shuffled across so that there was a bit of space, and put my book into the shopping bag that was still next to me.
"Have you been to the market? I had to go just before. It's really crammed today."

Hello?
Day: Saturday, August 16;
Time: 1:20 p.m. with @Cinder Blaze
The girl with the fiery red hair told me it was a schoolbook, but She answered me in French. Luckily, my parents speak a little, but I think if I tried to speak it, my accent would be too strong, and I don't think people would really understand what I was saying. The girl then offered me a seat next to her in English. With a shy smile, I replied,
"Oh yes, thank you, that's kind of you."
She told me she had just gone to the market and that it was really crowded. I nodded and said shyly,
"Yes, I went to the market, but I'm not very comfortable when there are a lot of people." And yes, there are really a lot of people today. Is it always like this? "
And in French, I asked her,
"Would you like to speak in French?"
My accent was certainly very, very strong, but I hope she understands my question. My parents have spoken French since I was 5 or 6 years old, at least from what I remember. I know my older brothers speak to me too. Our actions are quite significant. I knew how to say a few sentences in French, but I don't think I could explain anything complex. For example, I don't think I could explain a complete schedule in French; I think I would get lost in the words. But at least I know how to say the most important sentences.
Hello?
The girl definitely seemed shy. However, she still answered my question about the market.
"It's always busy, but never normally this much. There must be a lot of tourists at the moment."
When she asked if I wanted to speak French, I paused for a moment, before answering,
"I'm fine speaking English. Actually, my family are English, so I find it better speaking it, than French."
There was an awkward silence for a few minutes, before I decided to reach down into my bag, and pull out a small box of lemon and strawberry macarons. I offered them to her.
"Would you like one? There's lemon ones and strawberry ones."
I put them down on the bench between us, and took out a lemon one, and bit into it. I unlaced my shoes, and took off my socks, before sinking my feet into the soft white sand. It was so hot outside that the sand was actually extremely hot, making it relaxing.
I stared out to sea, where there were a few boats on the horizon. It must be so nice to go on a cruise on such a warm day.
I turned back round to the girl.
"By the way, my name's Cinder. What's yours?"
