The whole weekend had been full of activities around London, but the moment had finally arrived that Maira had to do it on her own. She could still see her family through the window, waiting on the platform and waving at her before she lost sight of them. The final thing she noticed was her little brother, looking sullen. He clearly felt that the age of admittance should be lowered for Hogwarts, so he could continue to pester her during her first few years.

But luckily for Maira, she didn’t need to worry about him until Christmas. Sadly, spending all her time with family in the last few days meant she hadn’t actually had time to spot other potential first years to sit with on the train. And she was quite sure none of the older years, who undoubtedly were happy to see each other again and share summer stories, would appreciate a small new person to jump in on a cart. Most of them seemed full already and Maira debated for a few seconds if she should simply sit on her trunk in the hallway.

She hadn’t realized she would be nervous by the time she would finally go to Hogwarts. Coming from a part-wizarding family, she thought she’d feel more familiar with everything around her, but it would seem that it wasn’t that much of an advantage either. She glanced around and right before she wanted to give up, she figured the cart she was in had one empty space. Normally she’d absolutely choose company over being on her own, but this time she was grateful that she could just stare out the window on her own for a bit. She opened the door and walked in, closing it quickly behind her. With a deep sigh, she calmed herself. But just as she was about to lie down on the empty bench she noticed it wasn’t empty just yet…”Oh Merlin… Sorry! I just need a space to sit… I’m Maira.” She stammered as she desperately tried to put her too heavy trunk on the bars at the top of the seats.
