New Year, New me? open

Gosh. It was absolutely freezing outside today. I knew it would be a lot more sensible to go back inside, but, judging by the noise, everyone who was staying at Hogwarts was celebrating the New Year together. I needed a little bit of quiet to think, so went exploring until I’d found the boathouse.
Christmas had been so stressful this year. I was used to just opening a few little presents, eating a small Christmas lunch, but that was completely different at Hogwarts. I knew it wasn’t Cousin Alana’s fault that she’d broken her leg, but there were still some things I was annoyed about.
First of all, one of my parents could have collected me from the train station - just because Alana is injured doesn’t mean that she needed two, sometimes three people to look after her.
Second, my letter was just signed from my mum. Not very strange, apart from I knew that on every single card and letter my mum signed it off as “mum” and my dad signed it off as “dad”.
Third, my parents hadn’t actually sent me a present. That was good, as the presents they gave me were always weird, however, my parents never went back on a promise.
I sighed, sinking down to the floor, before realising that I was sitting in a puddle of water. I shuffled across on the floor, not bothering to stand up, before leaning my head back onto the wall behind me.
I reached into my bag, and pulled out a small blanket that I’d remembered to pack into it, and put it over my legs to keep me warm.
I brought out my notebook and pen, and started drawing one of the little boats, that I vaguely remembered from the previous year.

New Year, New me? open
Jada shivered as a gust of cold air blew past her. She was walking around outside, looking for a little peace and quiet away from all the new year celebrations. She look back at the castle, she had been amongst them only half an hour earlier, laughing and dancing, but had left as it got a bit rowdier. She liked fun, but she wasn’t crazy enough to get caught in that.

She hunched her shoulders and pulled the hood of her winter jacket closer. Perhaps it would be a little warmer outside of the winds strong current she thought, steering herself towards the boathouse.

The dim moonlight cast an eerie glow on the boathouse and made it cast a long shadow across the ground.

The door creaked as she slowly pushed it open. She scanned the empty dock for a place to sit and started towards the edge of the water. What she was going to do now, she didn’t know yet, but for a moment she just sat there, watching the waves come in and out with the tide.

The small boats in which they had arrived at the school earlier in the year were attached to the dock moving up and down gently with the waves. She closed her eyes, thinking back to when she’d first seen Hogwarts. How it’s tall towers seemed to loom over the rest of the castle but how the warm light flooding through the windows seemed to welcome them.
