Ada Smith | Hufflepuff | First Year
Full Name: Ada Roberta Smith
History/Background Story: Ada is a brand new First Year in the year 2025. She is a Hufflepuff, which isn't what she was expecting. She's learning to come to grips with it.
Ada is pure-blooded, but her family line grew more sympathetic to half-bloods and then Muggles over time, partially due to falling out of favor with other houses due to power disputes over the course of the twentieth century; moreover as a result of increasing concern for a narrowing family line. By the end of the Second Wizarding War, the Smiths had fully integrated into living amongst Muggles. Not in a hidden home in a muggle neighborhood like the Blacks, but in traditional Muggle housing while using hidden floo channels for their work or leisure in the magical world.
Thus, she was born and raised in Salford, England and has five brothers. Her two older brothers, 17 and 14, are both currently Gryffindors at Hogwarts. She grew up in a busy city high-rise building and learned to be very careful with magic outside the family home. It also means she's as familiar with Muggles as she is with the magical world, but she's not used to fully living in a magical world just yet.
Journalism is a big industry in Salford and growing up around it got Ada interested. Off the top of her head, she's interested in working for the BBC but that's only because she knows nothing of magical journalism. She's potentially open to it, and who knows at 11 years old.
First instance of magic: Because she is a pure-blood, her family knew to look out for any signs of magic from the young witch. Still, it took them a while to realize that it was her unintentionally willing her school supplies to color coordinate--and not that they had simply bought her supplies that way. Ada herself grew up using a number of magical items and didn't realize she was the one causing the non-magical items to change either. This was around when Ada was eight years old, so a bit later than the average magical child. They figure it must be because Ada's magic was more about "making things feel right" than responding strongly to an emotional impulse.
