Snowing Letters
Total Word Count : 1036Dear Mom,
Hope it's all nice in Chennai, and hope the mercury hasn't gone berserk like last year. I still remember when the temperature dropped and rose, dropped and rose, then rinse and repeat. It's literally snowing here and the lake's frozen out there. Honestly, after Chennai, this seems like a snowflake apocalypse!
No, I haven't been Sorted into Gryffindor, or Slytherin, I've been pitched into Ravenclaw. It took about 20 seconds during which the Hat was considering putting me into Hufflepuff, but it decided on Ravenclaw. The eagle-head door knocker thingy asked me who lived longer, the ghost or the poltergeist? Well, my Defence Against the Dark Arts book's teachings came to use for the first time. I answered, 'Non-beings couldn't have been living, (like, what on earth?)'. The eagle door-knocker replied, 'Logically sound.' I had passed! I stepped into my common-room for the first time and I felt didn't feel home. No, seriously. It took a full day for me to feel home.
Classes are fun, though History of Magic feels boring with a capital B. Well, I never liked Social Studies anyway back in Chennai. Oh, by the way, thank Duo that I learned British English instead of some weird Indo-British alien language I used to speak earlier. One example, I used to say 'don't you' like 'dohnt-yoo', but these guys say it like 'don-chyoo'. At the beginning, I thought that these people just use too much, like, accent-ised English (honestly, I don't realise how they could speak French).
I'm thinking of buying a black quill and some lilac ink, though I'm saving up for a Silver Siberian kitty cat. I hope it's cute! (Am I crazy? Of course it will be!). oh, and by the way, I also got a new broom! A Nimbus 1001! It can accelerate upto 160 kph, faster than any random car in India. I tried using it to play cricket, and I failed miserably.
I've made some new friends, Edith Walkers from Ravenclaw, Lily Clarke from Hufflepuff, Julia Evans from Ravenclaw and Natasha Jones from Ravenclaw. Although I never asked them to have a snowball fight with me, I'm having enough fun already. I played some randomly made-up games with snow, like 'Make the Biggest Snowball', 'Smash that Snowball', and 'Roll it as Far as you can'. I accidentally almost rolled a snowball at the Herbology Greenhouses, but dived and diverted it just in time. Oh and it bumped into some random guy.
Oh, by the way, I haven't mentioned my subjects yet! Charms, Potions, Transfiguration, Defence Against the Dark Arts, History of Magic, Astronomy, Herbology, and Flying. I'll have a choice of picking at least one subject out of Care of Magical Creatures, Divination, Study of Ancient Runes, and Muggle Studies (yeah, about how the normal world works. Useless, right? That's exactly why I'll take that one too) in the third year, and I have to give O.W.L. (Ordinary Wizarding Level), and N.E.W.T. (Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Test. No, I don't need truckloads of water bottles for hydration and whatever.). There are six grades in my homework, (yep, classwork hardly exists, homework is ten times bigger. Literally.) Outstanding (O), Exceeds Expectations (E), Acceptable (A), Poor (P), Dreadful (D), and Troll (T, seriously how is 'Troll' even a grade? These wizards are soo weird). Oh, and Ravenclaw has already won a monthly House Cup! Well, homework grades earn you House Points, and House Points of each house are counted in these troll-size hourglasses in the Entrance Hall. The house with most points after each month gets the prized House Cup. And there are cool rewards each month.
I'm collecting Chocolate Frogs and Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans. Well, this is basically how that works. Chocolate Frogs are chocolates shaped like frogs, and have a card describing a famous witch or wizard inside them. No, you don't eat the card, you eat the Frog. I'm collecting the cards and I have 42 till now. They cost 2 Sickles each, so, yeah, I wasted 5 Galleons in buying them. (Oops, telling that was a mistake. Never mind. Forget I said that. You know what? This would be better. Obliviate! I actually don't know how to do that yet.). And the school staff leaves about beans of randomly random flavours all around the school. So, yeah, it's like a 24/7 Easter Egg hunt with beans, not eggs. By randomly rando flavours,I mean totally random. There are sensible ones like Apple, Strawberry, Cheese, Ham, but there are also disgusting and weird ones like Bogey, Blood, Soap, Trash, Old socks, you name it. There are 60 such flavours and I've collected 38 beans of 29 different flavours. If I have two of any flavour, I'll give it to you to eat, don't worry. And those beans don't actually have what they're named after, they just taste like it (Wait a minute, no one's ever eaten old socks or trash). So don't vomit on this letter or get scared and send loperamide. Yuck! (You might think, the beans aren't yuck, and the medicine is? Who ever, ever said the beans aren't yuck? Why do I eat them? To experiment with their tastes. Duh.)
What did I forget? Oh yes, I've applied for the Ravenclaw Quidditch team, and I'm stuck in the waitlist for the waitlist. Yes, there are Inter House Quidditch, Broom Racing, and Duelling Championships. Also, I'm sleeping in the boys' dormitory, in a cozy corner, which is, to be honest, cozy. Oh, by the way, you'll need some of my Burn-Healing Paste. I just hope you learn to be a teeny tiny bit more careful while cooking. So I won't have to use my precious paste too much. (Don't go thinking that you can burn yourself as much as you like and I'll keep healing you, no.). Also, what shall I name my kitty cat? My top choices are Sophie, Daisy, Lucy, and Bella. I've also subscribed to the wizarding newspaper, the Daily Prophet. The photographs actually move!
Waiting for your letter soon. Give my love to Lily. Tell her she'll be here in 2 years! (Also, just for joking, tell her I'll kick her if she isn't Sorted into Ravenclaw.)
Lots of love,
George

Snowing Letters
Hi Lily,
Greetings from your adorable brother George! I'm writing from Hogwarts. Now, don't start jumping, you'll be there in two years!
It's all sooo much fun! Collecting Chocolate Frog cards of famous witches and wizards, collecting Every Flavour Beans of random flavours (some are too disgusting to mention, ask Mom), and homework! Yeah, sweet, sweet homework!
The subjects are too long to mention, ask details from Mom! Oh and I've got some friends too! Edith Walkers, Lily Clarke, Natasha Jones, and Julia Evans, you'll absolutely love them. Oh and did I mention, I have more friends too! You have to try make friends with them…
Also, you'll need robes and winter cloaks and gloves and cauldrons and books and quills and parchment. Also, I've been Sorted into Ravenclaw, and I'll kick you if you don't get Sorted there too.
Won't say no more in this owl, you'll see it all when you get here. I have given up too many spoilers.
Best,
George
