Misfortune and Ruined Pages
Speech: #004d00@Crystal TheodoraCold winds howled outside the stone castle walls and beat against the windows that were few and far between, causing Demitria to shiver as she hurriedly stepped through the corridor, weaving her way through tired throngs of people. She had forgotten how much she disliked the winter months, the dreariness and freezing weather. Demi usually associated certain colours to different feelings or emotions, and right at this moment she was feeling swirls of dull plum purple and annoyed dark taupe, like bruises and warnings of thunder and cold brittle tree limbs. Sometimes she didn't mind winter, but right now she was tired and cold and going to be late to class if she didn't hurry. Drawing her long silky cloak a little tighter around her slim shoulders, Demi hunched slightly and narrowly avoided running into another student who had their head buried in a book of some sort. Ugh, I hate how packed these corridors get, she grumbled internally as she sent a glare over her shoulder in the student's direction.
Demi wasn't particularly looking forward to sitting through a lecture right now, but continued through the corridor anyways. Drifting to the side of the dimly lit hallway and looking down for a brief moment to readjust the expensive looking cream suede book bag with a gold clasp, she didn't see the dark-haired girl, carrying a small open book and a glass of pumpkin juice along with her belongings, as they walked straight towards each other, each caught up in their own business. If only one of them would have looked up at that moment and avoided the likely collision... but alas, fate had other plans.
In a matter of seconds, the girls were upon each other. Demi looked up, done fiddling with her bag, a mere split second to widen her eyes before they slammed into each other. She shrieked, startled, and flailed her arms, causing a rather unfortunate chain of events. The pumpkin juice the other girl had been carrying was spilled all over the open book as the cup fell to the ground. Demi vaguely noticed her own suede bag falling to the floor as well as she grasped around for something to hold onto as she slipped on the stone. "Ahhh!!" In the panic of the moment, her hand found the book the girl was still clutching in her hands and Demi tightened her grip as she fell back, crumpling and tearing out several of the pages. Her rump hit the floor, and, humiliated, and still clutching the papers tightly in her right hand, Demitria finally looked up at the other girl as the commotion settled.ReducioWord count: 441

Crystal was already running late, though she didn’t realize it at first. She moved through the castle in a daze. The sort of daze that came from sleeping too deeply and waking up too fast. She would have slept straight through the morning if not for the rush of air through her window.
An owl. She had jolted upright just in time to see it drop a letter onto her bed before swooping back out through the open window. For a moment she’d just stared at it. Then she recognized the handwriting. Her parents. That alone had snapped her fully awake.
She had read it once. They were busy, but they had written anyway. Taken time. Asked questions. Told her they were proud. She carefully taped it into her diary like it was something fragile and irreplaceable, because it was. She looked up as the clock struck and only then did she realize...She was LATE!
From there everything had become hurried and slightly off-balance. She didn't have time for an entire breakfast. She only had time to rush to the Great Hall, grab a glass of pumpkin juice, and then brisk walk to class. She was thinking about the letter. About rereading it later. About how she might write back as she adjusted her books, diary and glass of juice.
So she didn’t see the other girl until it was too late.
The collision was sudden and hard. Pumpkin juice splashed. Her book was yanked sharply from her hands. Crystal stumbled, catching herself just in time to avoid falling. And then she heard it. The tear. Her head snapped up.
She saw the pages first...Her pages...The ones containing her parents' letter...Crumpled and ripped in the other girl’s hand. For a split second, her mind went completely blank. Then the she saw RED.
“What the hell?!” Her voice came out low, tight. Not loud. Controlled, but only just. “Do you not watch where you're going?!”
