New Owl
Iris decided to go to the pet shop one day with the thought of getting a pet because she missed her car from home so dearly. She wondered why her parents wouldn't just let her being her cat! It was stupid. But she didn't say anything she knew better than that.
She walked through the store. She wanted to get an owl. Not only because it would be easier to send letters back to her parents, but it would also be a good filler for missing her cat. She had heard a joke once that owls were just like cats except with wings and she found that funny. She always loved birds. She loved to hear them sing, and the lovely bird songs outside her window always soothed her.
She walked slowly through the shop. On her way to the area where the owls were being kept she stopped by to look at the spiders. For a split second she had considered getting one. Only a second.
"No way Iris! Someone will squish it, or you'll easily lose it!" She mumbled hopelessly to herself. Though she did like the darker vibes of spiders and the fact that they were unlocked by most others. She liked that.
Iris took a deep breath and searched around the shop for the owls. Once she got there, she looked at all of the owls they had.
She had considered a Snow Owl, she loved the vibrant white feathers and beautiful accompanying feathers it had, and she almost bought one, but she moved on. She wanted the perfect owl. The Snow Owl wasn't quite speaking to her.
She moved on to the Eagle Owl. She loved the vibrant amber eyes that the Eagle Owl had. But then... The owl chirped at her. She squinted. It was sure cute... But why did it sound like that? Almost like it had something caught in it's throat. She shook her head.
Lastly, she came to a lone Eastern Screech Owl. It was a tiny thing, barely fitting in her hand it was so small. She took a deep breath and crouched down to get to it.
"Hey there little buddy... I'm Iris... Would you like to come home with me?" She asked as if she was almost expecting a response back. Obviously the owl didn't respond though, but it did tilt it's head and blink at her. She knew that this was the one. She had to have it. She nodded then went to find the clerk.
"I'll have that small owl. An Eastern Screech owl is it? I'll name him Rusty. The color of his feathers remind me of rust." She states and points to her new pet, Rusty.
