Adora looked around the Hufflepuff common room. It was pretty cramped, because students were back home from Christmas, catching up with their friends. The chatter was loud, compared to the storm raging outside. Adora could've gone home, like most of them, but she wanted to stay at Hogwarts and learn a little more about he castle. The common room was quiet, but students were moving around and talking, making the space too busy for Adora to truly focus. She was trying to write a small story, or even some poetry, a hobby she had picked up just a few weeks into her time as a first year. Suddenly, Adora had an idea. She'd heard the Astronomy Tower was very quiet, and students hardly went up there unless it was to get away from the crowds, or go on dates. She slipped through the students in the common room to get to the Girl's Dormitory, where she grabbed her satchel, shoving her notebook, quill, and ink pot in quite ungracefully. Then, she walked right out of the Hufflepuff Common Room without anyone noticing her absence.
Adora was in no rush to get to the tower. Instead, she took this time to observe the castle very carefully, looking for details she might have missed, despite the sun going down and the castle getting harder and harder to see. She knew where the Astronomy Tower was, despite having never been there. The stairs, by far, were the worst part of it all. Adora's legs were burning by the second flight, and she was ready to stop, or even go back to the common room. But she kept going anyway, because she had a goal. and that goal was to get to the Astronomy Tower and write her little heart out. She'd never show anyone her writing, of course, that was for her and her only. She wrote about the wildest things. Young girls who encountered and made friends with wild animals, continuation of dreams she'd had, at home or at Hogwarts.
At last, Adora could finally see the telescope of the Astronomy Tower. The storm was even louder here, yet it calmed Adora's mind. She celebrated to herself, as she started walking heavier and faster, desperate to get to the top. She hugged her satchel to her chest, squeezing it with excitement. She stopped when she saw it. The huge, bronze telescope. It was stunning, moonlight glinting off of it. Adora rested her shoulder on a nearby pillar, pausing to admire the grand telescope in front of her.
Adora inhaled through her nose, trying to get a whiff of the air. It was easier to point out certain smells with her now-werewolf abilities. The air smelled sharp, almost like pine. But she also got... was that a person she smelled? Adora followed the smell until she saw a boy who looked to be maybe her age, sitting near the balcony. Adora didn't want to scare him, so instead she just sat a few yards away, opening her satchel to get out her notebook, quill, and ink pot.Word Count: 515 words

Zephyr was lying in bed for a long time, just staring at the ceiling, and listening to the rain hitting the windows. The storm was loud with thunder rolling through the castle and flashes of light breaking up the dark. At home, storms were something he was used to. He would lie in his room and count the seconds between thunder and lightning. In school, every sound was echoing against the stone walls and it bothered him a lot.
After turning over one too many times, he gave up on sleep. He didn’t want to wake his dormmates, so he moved quietly, as he pulled on a jumper and slipped on his shoes. He grabbed his drawing pad and a pencil from his pen holder. He doesn’t draw because he was good at it, he draw because it helped calm his thoughts. When his head was overthinking, putting lines on paper helped him breathe again.
He didn’t want to stay in the common room, even this late at night, it could be busy, especially after the holidays. He needed somewhere quiet, somewhere out of the way. The idea of the Astronomy Tower came to him because it was high up and usually empty. He heard older students say it was nice to be up there, and that was enough to satiate his curiosity.
He made his way through the castle, the stairs were the hardest part. By the second set, his legs were already tired, but he was used to pushing through discomfort. Farm work taught him that. When he finally reached the tower, the wind was stronger, and the sound of the storm was louder. Rain tapped against the stone, and lightning lit up the sky every few moments. Instead of making him nervous, it calmed him. He liked storms.
He sat near the balcony and opened his drawing pad. He started sketching the view in front of him, just rough lines. His movements were very slow, and for the first time that night, his shoulders relaxed. Initially, he didn’t notice that he was not alone. He was focused on his sketch. It wasn’t until he sensed movement nearby that he looked up and caught sight of someone sitting a short distance away. “Oh.. hi.” Aware now that he was sharing the space and wanted to make sure the girl was not bothered by it.

Adora looked up at the sound of the boy's voice. She wasn't entirely sure what to do, so she replied: "Hi." warily echoing his greeting back to him. From what she could see, given the darkness and her distance from the boy, he had short, Dirty-blond hair, and pale-ish skin that might have be tanned, but it was hard to tell in the thin moonlight. He was thin, but Adora could just barely see the muscle on his arms when a particularly bright bolt of lightning struck. She stared for a moment, getting used to the fact that he now knew she was here, before then turning back to her notebook. She carefully searched around in her satchel for her quill, and when she found it, gently pulled it out. Her hand was wet, and the feather felt the same, also sticky. Panic set in, and she searched desperately for her ink pot, only to prick her finger on a piece of glass. She winced, yanking her hand out of her bag. dabbed her finger on her robes, swiping the bit of blood off her skin. She scooted back onto the solid flooring of the tower, dragging her satchel with her. She tipped it upside-down, and several glass pieces clattered onto the floor, covered in ink and splattering some of it on the floor. Adora set her satchel back down and sighed, staring at the pieces. She had no ink to write with, and would need a new ink pot. She wondered if the boy had any spare ink she could borrow. She glanced his way, carefully considering the thought. Adora knew she'd need ink, and wouldn't know if the boy had any until shed asked. So, she delicately picked up the glass pieces, cradling them in her left hand, and picked up her satchel with another. She walked over to the boy.

The girl who was now sharing the space with him greeted him with a simple "Hi," which he returned with his own, along with a friendly smile. He was not sure yet if the girl wanted to talk or mind her own business, and since he was someone who sucks at doing small talk, he proceeded with watching the storm outside and added more lightning in the drawing pad he was working on. Since he was too focused on his drawing, he completely missed what happened to her.
He only saw some movement from the corner of his eye; if not for that, he wouldn't have noticed anything due to the noise and distractions. Zephyr glanced her way, and jade eyes narrowed at seeing her wiping something off her fingers. "Everything okay there?" His voice depicted worry, which he couldn't hide; it was natural for him to worry and offer help when necessary. There were several pieces of glass on the floor, which she was gathering in her hand, which he assumed was what caused the bleeding.
The girl approached him and asked for spare ink. It seemed her ink bottle broke. "Yes, I have a spare, but before that," he gestured toward her hand as he pivoted on his seat so he could face her. "Let me help you with that first. We need to stop the bleeding." He pulled his hanky from his pocket and asked for her hand. "If you will let me, sorry, I don't know any spells yet to stop the bleeding or produce a bandage for you. This..." he raised his hanky for her to see, "...I hope it will help a bit?" He had to speak louder so they could hear each other.

Adora gratefully took the boy's handkerchief and swiped gently at her palm. It sent a small push of pan through her hand each time, and she stopped to make sure there wasn't any glass in her hand. She ten wrapped the piece of cloth tightly around her hand, unceremoniously tucking the small corner into the neat layers. She glanced back up at him, grateful for his help. "Hang on, I'm going to grab my stuff, I'll be right back."
Adora carefully stood up and left the boy, and walked over to where her satchel was. She gently picked it up, turning it upside-down and shaking it to make sure there was definitely no more glass. She slung the bag over her shoulder, and then picked up her notebook and quill. She calmly walked back over to the boy, sitting back down with her satchel resting in her lap. She wiped her quill on her cloak, trying desperately to get the leftover dried ink off of it. It was hard to see with the raging storm, so Adora had to rely on the lightning. She realized she'd been silent. She consolidated her items, placing her notebook next to her, quill on top, and taking her satchel off, before turning back to the boy, " Thanks for the help. I'm Adora, what's your name?"

“Careful.” Without really thinking, he told her that, his voice sounding worried. She was in the process of wrapping the hanky around her hand. At least she's not shaking or bothered by the blood. She was just casually dealing with it, which was quite impressive. He frowned just as she stood, excusing herself from him to get her things back.
“Are you sure you’re okay to...” He was trying to say but she was already walking away, so he stayed where he was, watching her every step. His eyes went to the floor where the remains of the broken glass had been. He hoped she didn't miss any pieces, that was the last thing she needed, having shard stuck in her skin.
While she was gathering her things, the lightning flashed, giving him a clear view of the girl and revealing more details. She's skinny, has dark skin and hair. When she came back and sat beside him, his eyes went to the covered hand. It was a struggle to see everything, what with the storm hindering them.
She expressed her thanks and introduced herself. “I’m Zephyr, nice to meet you, Adora.” He needed to say what was in his mind, it's for her own good. “You might want to clean your wound properly later. Glass cuts could easily get infected." He was not trying to worry her, just thought he should say it. It's for her own benefit, she would thank him later.
Reaching for his bag, he opened it and looked for his spare ink bottle. “And I did mean it about the ink, I got some extra you can use.” Finally finding the bottle, he gave it to her. "Here. What are you working on if you don't mind me asking?" His own sketch pad was opened in front of him, some pages were flipping due to the wind.

"Zephyr," Adora tested the boy's name on her tongue. I felt almost friendly, like he was someone she'd known for a while. A close friend. In reality, of course, Adora hardly knew Zephyr. He had warned her about the cuts from her ink bottle, saying the might get infected if left unclean, and advised her to clean the wound when she returned to her dorm. He'd also given her his spare ink bottle, which Adora was grateful for, and thanked him. She dipped her quill in the ink pot and scribbled around a bit in the top corner of her notebook until the ink started to run. She began writing again, when Zephyr asked what she was working on. This, Adora was hesitant to answer. She'd shared lots of things with her parents and other family members back home, and had done the same for her writing, owling her parents bits and scraps of stories or poetry she'd written. But this was a new person. Sure, she had no reason not to trust him, as he hadn't done anything to her, and he'd helped her with an injury, but she'd had worse accidents. Much, much worse accidents. Adora stifled a shudder at the thought, bringing her leg up to her chest. She looked back up at the boy, who was
sitting patiently, waiting for her to respond. She'd just tell him she was writing, a small hobby she'd picked up at Hogwarts.
"Just a small story, or maybe some poetry. I've picked up writing since arriving here, y'know." Adora gestured at the castle and grounds around them, putting her hands out towards the still-raging storm just off the balcony of the astronomy tower. She looked at the pad in Zephyr's hands, and asked him what he was doing in return.
"What about you? Seems we both have a certain connection to quill and paper."

He’s not naturally social, caring for others is how he builds relationships, it doesn’t force conversation and for him it’s more honest than small talk. He isn’t expressive or dramatic, and he doesn’t often talk about his feelings either. But, when he sees uncertainty in others, he recognizes it instantly and he doesn’t want anyone to feel alone in it. And that was what he noticed from Adora when he asked her what was she working on as soon as she got the spare ink bottle sh requested from him.
There was a beat of silence between them and he would have followed up that she didn’t have to say anything if she’s uncomfortable with it, but he heard her spoke before he can say anything. She’s writing a story or a poem, he was not sure which one of the two as it sounded like she was not sure yet. But, she did share she started writing ever since she arrived in school, “That’s nice, what’s usually your inspiration? Is there something in our school or in your life that triggered this?” He was unaware that his question may be a bit personal, for him it was just a harmless question born out of curiosity.
Another crack of thunder echoed around them followed by lightning and it made the hair on his nape rose greatly. He glanced toward the open balcony and admired how the lightning lighted up the entire place in just a few seconds before it turned dark again. When she pointed out that they both seemed attached to quill and paper, he glanced at her again and a shy smile appeared at his lips. He shifted his sketch pad and turned it slightly in her direction so she could see.
“I sketch.” It was his simple answer. “It’s my outlet and it helps when I can’t sleep or when I’m overthinking about something.” The page showed the view of the castle with the dark sky beyond it’s there were lines of lightning from the heavy clouds. It carefully drawn and it showed how much he paid attention to small details.

Adora thought carefully about how to answer Zephyr's next question. She didn't have an inspiration or her writing, she thought, ideas sort of popped into her head. But as she thought, she realized, that a lot of what she wrote reflected on her life. The high-stakes adventures she wrote about showed how stressed her homework had made her, and her characters often reflected how she saw herself, hiding something and thinking it's a big, scary secret. Which, what she was hiding, was, of course, a big, scary secret. She looked back up at Zephyr and said, "I think my characters and stories kind of reflect my own life, you know? It's how I express things that maybe I wouldn't be able to express in the real world. Like an escape." She looked back at her notebook and then to her quill. She wondered if she should elaborate. But how could she do that without letting slip about her werewolf side? She have to tell Zephyr about it eventually, but not now, while they were still getting to know each other. A rather loud roll of thunder sounded, stronger compared to the more purr-like sounds the storm had been making. Adora looked out into the night. The rain had started forming puddles on the edge of the balcony. She looked back at Zephyr, studying him. She waned to know about his art. What did he draw? Why did he draw it? Was it the same reason she did? Several questions appeared into her head like clockwork. how was she supposed to ask him? "What about you? How do you know what to draw?" The question sounded vague, or even strange, but everything that Adora wanted to know could go into that one question.

He was then asked for his own reason and inspiration. There was only a moment of hesitation before he raised his sketch pad to show her what he drew that time. He pointed to the lines of the storm over the castle. “I usually draw what I notice, or what I feel. If something catches my attention, or if I’m thinking about things I can’t really say out loud, I put it on paper.” He was trying to explain it as simply as he could. “Sometimes it’s the weather, the clouds, or a place, or even a person, things that are important to me at the moment. It helps me understand them or myself.”
He paused, looking at her carefully. “A lot of people get inspired by what they notice around them, or by how they feel, such as strong feelings, or something that surprises them or worries them, or things that make them curious and cry. Those things are usually what trigger me to draw.”
He gave her a shy smile. “Based on what you told me, your writing works the same way. You use your stories to deal with things. But...” he was hesitant, but he didn't stop himself from asking, "You're writing right now, does that mean..." he winced internally, "...you're dealing with things, personally?"
It was interesting to know that they both used creativity to make sense of the world in different ways. He was not really very good with words, but he hoped she could tell he understood what she meant and didn’t judge her for it.
