First Year Book Shopping
I always enjoyed visiting the city with my uncles, especially coming down the cobblestones of Diagon Alley. Whenever I visit, I always stop at Flourish & Blotts to see newest books that have come out. My uncles usually tease me and call me a nerd, but it is all in good fun. Today, I am here on business; one might say I am on a mission. I sure hope I don't get distracted.

I enter the shop, and as usually am greeted by a dull rumble of many footsteps, mumblings of other customers and even the sounds of the various magical books flying off the shelves. Some are literally flying off the shelves, seemingly with minds of their own. I quietly chuckle to myself and settle into a determined push through the crowd to search for my required reading list of books.

Having been here so many times, it isn't hard for me to navigate and find the first few books. Most of the standard reading for the upcoming lessons at Hogwarts have already been gathered and placed strategically for easy finding to near the entrance. I collect all but the book "The Dark Forces, A Guide to Self-Protection" by Quentin Trimble. It seems they have run out of the copies gathered at the front.

"Oh, darn, I guess I have to do some actual searching today," I jokingly mumble to myself. "I hope I don't get lost and end up getting attacked by a rogue book again, haha."

I know the book should be either in the Jinx and Curse section or in the Self-help section. The Self-help section is a little too crowded for my taste, so I decide to go to the back of the store where the Jinxes and Hexes are. It is the much more interesting area anyway. As I pore over the bindings looking for the right book, I pull out a couple others that might be fun to read and flip through some pages. One bursts up out of my hands just as I was reading about some fascinating history behind how hair growth jinxes were first developed. After the initial surprise, I catch the book and look down the aisle just in time to see a boy duck out of view. I laugh, knowing it was just some prank, and decide I should get back to mission and find my last book.

I spend a few more minutes perusing the shelves and finally discover a small stack of "The Dark Forces" books. I grab one and add it to my substantial stack of books in my basket and head for the checkout counter. I wait in line for about half an hour, wishing I could continue poring through the thousands of books on the shelves, but know I have a lot more shopping to do for my upcoming year at Hogwarts. I pay my dues for the books and head for the door to start my next little mission for school supplies.

As I walk out the door, I think to myself, "Hogwarts, here I come!"
