Make us proud. Bring honor to the Lovelace name. The words swirled around the girl’s head as she stood staring up at the immense train, huffing and puffing smoke and screeching metal sounds. Nervous and excited chatter filled the air around her, and she stuck her head a little farther up, trying to show that she was not to be looked down on to anyone who might be observing. She took a deep breath, reached down to where her two trunks were sitting on the grimy station floor, and hoisted them up. Biting the inside of her cheek slightly, she rearranged her face into a bored smirk and almost haughty expression. Never let them see your fears. She blinked. It didn't matter to her that her parents hadn't stayed to see her off, of course. At least that was what she told herself. She didn't need them. She didn't need anyone. A whistle screamed as the brunette girl stepped onto the train with her chin up.

Demitria Katerina Lovelace was a girl you might call classically attractive. Large, dark, doe eyes, nicely contoured facial structure, petite. Today her long brown hair was elegantly up in a twist on her head, done by one of her family's hired maids. Quite observant, Demi's eyes darted around as she stepped up and started walking down the corridor, careful to keep her steps even. She sniffed in distaste as someone her age pushed her in their attempt to get into a compartment. These corridors were so unbearably crowded, it made Demitria annoyed. Gritting her teeth, she tugged on one of her trunks as it was lodged in the doorway. She glanced around swiftly to see if anyone had noticed her momentary lack of decorum. The corridors seemed to be getting smaller as Demi continued her path further down the train. Every compartment she glanced at seemed to be occupied.

They really should have someone to help you with your trunks, the thought flashed into her mind with a twinge of annoyance. It certainly wasn't her fault that she had been obligated to bring a whole other trunk to carry her belongings in besides the standard one all students brought. The one trunk simply did not have enough space to hold all the important things that she would need if she were to stay for a prolonged amount of time. Did people really think that she would be able to fit all her school clothes, her new dresses, new robes, shoes, and the few ball gowns she had acquired recently into that one small trunk? Heavens, no. At very least Mother seemed to share her opinions on the subject and had insisted she take another trunk, for, as she put it: "my daughter will not be made to look like some poor scruffy child constantly rewearing drabby clothes."

Finally, Demi spotted a compartment that looked empty. The train whistle sounded again. Sinking onto the bench of the compartment, Demitria placed the trunks on the floor beside her and leaned back with a small sigh. She pinched the bridge of her nose and hummed a little. This day had already been very taxing and it had barely begun. She crossed one leg over the other demurely, smoothing out her expensive skirt and admiring her dainty little heeled slippers. She reached into the small pocket on one of her trunks and pulled out a worn leather journal, which she promptly opened in her lap, drawing out a quill as well. She was just beginning to document the start of the journey when she heard the compartment door slide open.
