As usual as the other past few days Rose woke up not to late, quickly stopped by the great hall just to grab an apple before heading to her favourite place: the library.
Outside was cold thus making it harder to go out and have a walk as she ordinarily does. Therefore the library was the best place for her to go.

That day she felt quite content as a smile was fixed on her lips. Winter break was coming and it was as if she were counting the days until she was getting back home. Yet she still had to study until then but she didn't mind so it was not like a chore for her.

Soon Rose reached the entrance of the library. She walked in as she smelled the scent of the books and parchments, heard the sound of pages being turned, the scratch of the quills on paper and above all the quietness of the place. That felt calming and peaceful to her. She really loved it.

She wandered around the shelves looking for some books she could find interesting before reaching her nook. Indeed she had a favourite seat located in a corner near a window where -she noticed- actually not many students were coming to. She was then sure not to be disturbed at least less than somewhere else.

Rose took her books, quills and ink along her notebook out of her bag she hung to the back of her chair and started doing her homework. She had not much left so that would be quickly done. She wished.

It was some times already she were sitting and writing when her wrist and hand started to hurt yet she decided to finish the homework she was working on as not much were left to do. Finally she was done and needed to rest for a bit. She was feeling both hungry and sleepy for not having eaten in the morning but only taking an apple from the Great Hall. How foolish when someone wants to study and needs energy to concentrate well. She sighed.

Nevertheless instead of eating her apple she put her arms crossed on the desk and rested her head on it her auburn hair falling on her shoulders as her eyes slowly closed themselves drifting her to the world of dreams.

“She looked towards the dark, starry sky wishing she could drown in its vastness, the way one drifts in the deep, endless ocean.”

The library was supposed to be quiet, that was the whole point of it. Besides the courtyard, the library was the only place in Hogwarts where there wasn't much noise.

Which was exactly why Ryder ended up there more often than most people realized. Especially during winter when the castle somehow became louder instead of calmer.
Snow covered the windows while cold air followed him inside briefly before the doors shut behind him again.

Ryder walked through the rows of shelves with a book tucked beneath his arm before stopping almost immediately once he noticed someone sitting in the corner near the window.
His corner.
What a brilliant day to start today.

He wanted to leave the girl alone, even though it irked him alot since that was the only place in the library with the best view outside and complete peace where little to no people would enter.

He was just about to leave when he saw her ink bottle tilting dangerously close to spilling over her parchment. Before the bottle could tip fully, Ryder reached forward and caught it with one hand.

Unfortunately, in the process, one of the books stacked near her elbow slipped right off the table with a loud THUD against the floor.

Several students looked over immediately.
Ryder closed his eyes briefly like the noise physically pained him.
Perfect.
Absolutely perfect.

Rose stirred awake at the sound while Ryder slowly shook his head, still holding the ink bottle hostage in one hand.
“You know,” he said flatly, grey eyes landing on her, “most people come to the library to study. Not hibernate.”

Rose lying on the desk of the library, sleeping, didn't realise her crossed arms were near her ink bottle still open -what an idea to leave it open especially when you fall asleep- she already spilled it once over her desk so maybe once was not enough. Looked like it was about to be reiterating but this time on her parchment. But that something she was not caring about as she was lost in a dream. Actually a real good dream. It was Christmas at her grandparents' house in Portree, she was with her family and her small black Maltese, Olen, she was hugging in a big armchair near the fireplace where a blazing fire was burning warming the whole place from the outside coolness. It was just perfect until the dream became disagreeable when Olen started barking loudly... Rose was awake or she has been awoken. Which were her dogs barking was actually assimilate to a loud thud as her eyes opened and she grumbled over the person who made this -probably- book fallen. It was not without being followed by a masculine voice as her head snapped around to find herself facing a tall brunette boys whose grey eyes were staring at her. Rose quite lost of what was happening had to blink several times to understand the situation.
How long has he been standing here? She thought before her eyes landed on the ink bottle the boy was holding then her desk to realise it was her ink and that one of her books was missing only to find it on the floor. She was so confused and annoyed to have been woken up by her own book falling when the boy's remark came back to her mind.

"You know" she started to copy his wording as her gaze went back to him "the library is not a place to come to wake people up and disturb them." she said her light green eyes narrowing as she stood up to look at the boy more fiercely although he was much taller than her. Moreover she was not even sure what she was saying nor how much sense it made.

Then her eyes fell on the ink bottle the boy was still holding as she made a small head movement towards while crossing her arms over her chest.

"Trying to steal other's ink bottle?" she asked suspiciously definitely knowing it was not the case but she wanted to tease him a bit. Especially after he woke her up he deserved it.
"First waking me up and then stealing my ink? Or did the book falling made you failing in your small robbery attempt?" she asked now with a mischievous look. She was enjoying so much this time. It was weird because usually Rose was not comfortable like that with stranger. Was it because he started first? Perhaps but there was something else.

Then she frowned looking at him realising he looked way to much familiar for a random stranger. She knew that boy. She saw him before. Suddenly it hit her as her eyes widened and her arms uncrossed themselves.

"You're Ryder!" she said almost in shock her face turning red of embarrassment as she quietly sat down on her chair all the boldness she might had leaving her body. She bent down to pick up her book careful not to hit her head before putting it on the table followed with a big sigh.

Her light green eyes then turned back to Ryder still standing with her ink bottle.

"Do you plan on holding it forever or do you wait for becoming a inkwell perhaps...?" she teasingly asked followed by a light laugh.

The corner of Ryder’s mouth twitched slightly despite himself as he looked down at the ink bottle still in his hand. Her comment about him stealing her ink bottle was quite weirdly funny.

“Incredible,” he muttered. “I save your parchment from drowning and suddenly I’m a criminal.”

Ryder looked at her quietly after she remembered who he was. The sudden embarrassment on her face almost made him laugh. Almost.
Instead, he just raised an eyebrow slowly.
“Well, this is awkward,” he said dryly. “A minute ago you were accusing me of armed robbery.”

He finally handed the ink bottle back to her, though not without holding onto it for one extra second just to annoy her.
“Disappointing, honestly. I thought the thief allegations were getting interesting.”

He rolled his grey eyes as she made a comment of turning into an inkwell and answered back, "are you always this dramatic when someone saves your stationery from causing a library driven chaos? or am I just special?"

He smirked at her coldly his grey eyes intently staring at her. His eyes wandered to the apple on the table, "“That,” he said, pointing at it lightly, “is probably the saddest breakfast I’ve ever seen.”
He looked back at her.
“No wonder you passed out.”

The situation was indeed awkward as Ryder mentioned which was not to help Rose and to make her feeling less anxious about it or even less embarrassed. Ryder was not helping at all. But well seeing the look on his face and hearing the tone of his voice it was not surprising. Nevertheless this nonchalance -if that could be named after it- had a knack on getting on Rose's nerves more than expected.
Is this guy heartless or what? Rose looked at him in disbelief. How was she supposed to react when so many things happened in a short time right after waking up and facing a guy holding her ink bottle next to her?

Nonetheless Rose tried to remain calm and not to show Ryder he was indeed getting on her nerves. Especially that easily after maybe only 5 minutes of interactions. She couldn't determine yet if it were going to be in a friendly funny way or more an enemy -friendly- way. She breathed in and out and turned to him as he was giving her back the ink bottle she was ready to take. Of course it was not without him taking an extra time to finally let go. She quickly smiled -not a real joyful smile- and was about to thank him when as it could be expected Ryder let out a comment. Rose raised an eyebrow and mischievously smiled just looking at him.

"Then next time I will catch you on the act. And as you wish the thief allegations will be real." She then turned her attention back on her work on the desk making sure not to spill ink anywhere. Rose was feeling a bit amused now as she quickly glanced at him to see him rolling his eyes at her for her comment about him becoming an inkwell.

That was her turn now to roll her eyes at him when he called her dramatic. She slightly scoffed.
"This guy...." she muttered "Unbelievable." she pursued. Of course she was thankful he saved her work from a potential ink disaster but now she was too proud to thank him after their interaction. For Rose it had become a case of whoever had the last word. She just smiled the same way she did earlier at him titled her head a little on the side before putting an innocent look on her face.

"Special?" she repeated as if she was thinking of the meaning of the word. Then she just smiled mischievously "You wish. Don't take your dream for your reality Superman." she slightly laughed. There was obviously no mean in her comment. Once more she was just teasing him.

When Rose noticed he was just staring at her coldly her light green eyes looked back at it as a mischievous look appeared in it.
"Well according to that look you'll probably not be the superhero after all." she paused "But definitely the thief." Rose emphasized the last word as a remembrance and in the sense of villain as opposed to superhero.

Ryder's eyes shifted to the desk and precisely to the apple on it followed by another nice comment out of his mouth. Rose couldn't help but scoff again before looking at the apple as well "Who said it is my breakfast?" she then turned back to him "I did NOT pass out. I was taking a break by having a nap that YOU interrupted."

This guy had some guts. It was her first time meeting someone like him. Usually she was the one teasing people but he was doing it so easily. That was annoying her so much.

"So did you come here just to play the superhero well thief sorry" she flashed a mischievous smile "or to actually study?" she said gesturing the library.

Super..man?
"Whatsoever is a Superman!"
The confusion on his face was completely genuine now.
His grey eyes narrowed suspiciously at her like she had just insulted him in another language.
“Is that supposed to be a compliment or are you threatening me?”

He leaned one shoulder against the bookshelf beside her table while she continued with the whole thief accusation thing.
Honestly impressive work for someone who had been asleep moments ago.
Ryder’s gaze flickered toward the apple again.
“Oh, my mistake,” he said dryly. “Clearly that’s not breakfast. You just enjoy carrying lonely apples around at the time of breakfast?"

He ignored her protest about “not passing out” almost immediately.
“Pearce, you were unconscious on top of your homework.” he deadpanned. “One more minute and you probably would’ve been ignored with all the books here.”

Then came her question.

Did you come here just to play hero or actually study?
Ryder looked mildly offended.
“I came here for silence,” he replied simply. “Which was going brilliantly until a sleeping Ravenclaw started causing property damage.”

He pulled the book from beneath his arm and placed it onto the table beside hers with a quiet thud.
“But now?” his grey eyes flickered back to her, faint smirk appearing again, “now I’m curious.”
“What exactly is a Superman?”

Rose looked at Ryder in disbelief. He was talking as if she had been the one who caused him disturbance. She slightly scoffed at him before looking back at her apple he has been criticizing a lot. Obviously judging her for eating only this as a breakfast. Ryder was right though she hasn't eaten a proper breakfast nor anything before coming to the library. To be honest the apple was supposed to be her breakfast or break time snack depending on the time it would be. She just rolled her eyes at him ignoring the fact from an outer point of view it may have appeared like this. Nevertheless unconscious as fainting was still not the proper word to use as she was really sleeping. From tiredness only. Not because she lacked energy from not eating.

"Some people like to carry healthy snacks you know. Especially when they study." she told him trying to avoid the fact that it was indeed her breakfast and not letting him know her stomach was empty. She crossed her arm looked at him and raised an eyebrow.
"And maybe I did eat something before coming here. Who says I didn't eat any-" just then what could possibly betray her suddenly happened at the perfect timing. Her stomach made a noisy growl. Definitely a distinct sign it was empty, she hasn't eaten yet and was hungry. Above all in the quieter place that could have had happened and where it could not be more embarrassing: the library. Rose kept her attitude although she felt rather embarrassed and her cheeks turning a bit red as she tried to ignore the sound.
"-thing." she let out the end of her word almost in a whisper. Deep down she hoped Ryder didn't notice nor hear but it seemed to be so loud to Rose than anyone near her could have heard.

Nevertheless she just raised her eyebrow at him.
"For silence?" she smiled mischievously "It's not me who made a HUGE noise by making a book falling on the floor that had above all disturbed someone else quietness and rest time." she added amused before slightly titling her head on the side.

"Property damage?" she was genuinely confused at these words not knowing at all what Ryder was referring to. What kind of property damage could she have done? The only thing Rose could think of was her book that had fallen earlier but it was her book. It would be only her own property damage. She slightly frowned not knowing what to think when Ryder put his own book on the table smirking looking at her. What else was he going to say? Rose prevented herself from rolling her eyes again as she was expecting new reproaches or any type of comments Ryder has been saying until then. However surprisingly this time it was different. He seemed to ask a real question as he was truly curious and wanted a serious answer. Rose who was not expecting at all his question looked at him for some times processing what he was asking. He was serious yet she couldn't totally say with certitude.

She thought for a moment putting her hand on her chin and looking out at the window. The view was beautiful.

"A superman..." she repeated. Among all she said Ryder had to be interested by this word.

"Well...it's a man who is not ordinary. He can do things other can't. Fly. Being extra strong and lifting everything. Just a superhero. Didn't you read or watch movies about this kind of character?" she curiously asked looking back at him. For once she was not asking in a teasing way but she was sincerely asking.

Ryder stared at her for a moment after her explanation.

His expression somehow managed to become even more confused.

"Wait."

He asked with furrowed brows, "People write books about a man who can fly?"

His brow furrowed deeply.

"And that's considered normal?"

The more she explained, the less sense it made to him.

Flying wasn't particularly impressive. Half the school owned broomsticks. Some magical creatures flew. There were even spells that could make objects float.

The strength part sounded a little more useful.

Ryder folded his arms.

"So let me get this straight. He's not a wizard. Doesn't use magic. Yet he flies, lifts buildings and people just..." He gestured vaguely. "...accept this?"

It sounded completely ridiculous.

His attention shifted as her stomach betrayed her.

This time he absolutely heard it.

The corner of his mouth twitched.

"There it is."

Grey eyes dropped to the apple.

"The lonely apple speaks."

Ryder looked far too pleased with himself.

"You know, most people would surrender after their stomach publicly disagreed with them."

He leaned back against the shelf.

"But no. Not you. You committed to the lie."

"You're a Ravenclaw."

He sounded genuinely baffled.

"You're supposed to be clever."

"How exactly did you convince yourself that one apple was enough food for an entire morning?"

His grey eyes met hers again.

"And no, I've never watched these... movies."

Ryder paused.

"What exactly is a movie?"

The question was completely genuine.

He frowned slightly, trying to work it out from the word alone. "You Muggle-borns keep inventing strange things."
