After dinner, Campion was among the students dawdling in the Great Hall. He sat alone, working on schoolwork and admiring the ceiling, which displayed above its floating candles a night sky full of light snow flurries. He hadn't been able to make a lot of friends, not that he minded too much, and sat alone at the Hufflepuff table on a long bench with his back to the long hallway between tables where he came in and stood as a first year waiting to be sorted.
The school year had been of a tolerable difficulty thus far, though Campion wouldn't have minded a little more help from his older siblings, none of whom were in the Great Hall currently. A variety of students were, among a full variety of houses. Campion half-listened to the various bickering and chattering among students, catching snippets of conversation here and there, though nothing particularly ear-catching happened to be said.
Campion was only half-focused on his homework as he drifted away to thoughts of the approaching Christmas holiday, wherein he and his siblings, along with the rest of the students, would be free to go home for two weeks. Already the Great Hall was decorated with Christmas trees and holly, adding to the spirit of the season.
A difficult question came up in his Charms homework. "What?" he mumbled to himself. "Did we even go over that?"

Christmas Approaches
After dinner, Aria returned to the Great Hall with a warm mug of peppermint tea in her hand. She intended to read a bit before going to the dorm, but the low and indistinct voice coming from the direction of the Hufflepuff table diverted her attention. Campion was sitting all by himself, his Charms book in front of him like it was his enemy, and his eyes were glancing over it sadly.
Not wanting to frighten him, she came close to him quietly. "Um... Campion? Are you all right?" she inquired. Her voice was soft and caring but she was not presumptuous.
Without any further delay, Aria got up from the tea table and sat down next to him on the bench. "Can I see?" she asked in a soft voice. He directed the book toward her with his finger pointing at the part he was confused about. With her eyebrows slightly furrowed, Aria read the passage and after a moment, she nodded slightly. "We touched on it. Just a little."
She was pointing to the note with her light finger. "Professor Fresnel brought it up right at the end of the lesson—just before everyone started packing up.
Aria moving a little closer to the book. "It’s asking how concentration influences the stability of a levitation charm. The nutshell answer is that you can use the spell to lift something, but if your focus falters, the object—um—wobbles. Or drops. Or, off the top of my head, a thing like an ink bottle is spun off and knocked over. Not that I’d know personally.”

Christmas Approaches
@Aria Atchison
WC: 209Campion appreciated the approaching of his housemate, Aria. While they had never spoken before, he had seen her around the common room and of course in classes. Campion tended to mind his own business in classes, finding a little less interest in both his classes and his classmates than maybe was typical. Especially recently, he was often daydreaming about heading home for Christmas break.
He read where Aria pointed, then read it again with it not making sense the first time. It was certainly getting harder and harder to focus properly. Campion wished he had better focus, but academic prowess hardly ran in his family. Even the Ravenclaws were more the creative kind, though they got by.
"Are you very good at the levitation charm, then? Wingardium Leviosa? I'm alright. I definitely could do better." Campion looked to Aria expectantly. He hadn't noticed how she'd done in class. "My brother showed me it once when we were playing Wizard's Chess, but he was just showing off. He's a second year this year so he likes to show off everything he learned last year. It was impressive at first but it's just gotten annoying. Sharing a room with him is not going to be my favorite part of Christmas break."
