The door chime tinkled softly as the young ravenclaw entered the magical menagerie. The wind howled loudly as she stepped through the door, drowning out the sound of her timid footsteps.
She blinked, gazing around the room in awe. It was dusty and bright and... altogether very mysterious. Despite being a pureblood and visiting diagon alley, she'd never been in here. Parents wouldn't allow it, and who was she to complain?
Korinna let her gaze flicker towards the little sack of galleons in her pocket as she hefted her schoolbag over her shoulder and walked towards the front of the store.
She cleared her throat, glancing around for the shop owner before hesitantly piping up. "H-hello?"
Korinna startled as she heard a loud crash and a man with wire-framed glasses came bounding out the back closet excitedly. He looked rather old, his hair already white - but his bright smile was infectious. Korinna couldn't help but smile back, despite being startled.
"Oh! Hello!"
He pushed his glasses onto his nose, grinning from ear to ear. "Hello there! Ernest Witticker, owner of the Magical Menagerie-" he tilted his head. "And how may I help you today?"
"It's very nice to meet you, Mr. Witticker! I'm... i'm a hogwarts student-" she began, fidgeting nervously. "I'm looking to adopt a-" a pause. "companion." she finished, biting her lip.
He nodded gently, perhaps sensing her uncertainty. "Well, take a look around then! And let me know if you need anything." he disappeared behind the counter again, mumbling something about a toad. Whatever that meant.
She let out a sigh of relief, her gaze wandering around the room. She just wasn't sure if she'd find the right... well, she wasn't sure what she was looking for in the first place.
But perhaps she'd spoken too soon. It wasn't long before she spotted an adorable ball of fur with floppy ears and completely lost it. Her usual calm and collected facade broken, she dropped to the ground and squealed as she booped the adorable little bunny.
Mr. Witticker was back, his wheezy chuckle filling the room. "She's a spirited little one - lionhead thumper, few months old. Devious queen of mischief. Stealer of cookies. I daresay she and you would get along quite well, eh?"
Before she knew it, she was walking out of the menagerie grinning from ear to ear. "Goodbye Mr. Witticker! Thank you for all your help!"
The name had taken her a while, but she had an idea now. And she rather liked it.
Korinna gazed fondly at the small creature, whose whiskers were quivering excitedly, a promise of adventures ahead. "Circe. They're going to fear you one day, hm?"
