"Why are we sitting out here?" The restless four year old girl asks her father. This is one of the rare moments Bree got with her father. Her grandma was out of town and her mother was asleep. Her father was finally home after exploring the world and doing adult stuff. The girl enjoyed these moments and they normally have some sort of adventure happening. But right now her father was just staring into the sky. "Daddy!" Shaking her fathers arm for his attention, her father turns towards her. "We are waiting for the shower to happen." He pauses before making himself more clear to the four year old, "A meteor shower."
Tilting her head curiously she decides that tonight may be interesting, "What's a meter shower daddy?" Her father laughs quietly before answering, "A meteor shower. It happens all the way up there," Her father points to the sky, "It's like the stars are falling. Don't worry, it won't leave the sky."
As if he timed his explanation, it started. The young girl gasped loudly and tugged on her fathers sleeve, "Its so pretty!" She told him. Curling up in his lap, they watched the falling stars together.
Walking up the stairs the Gryffindor sighs softly as she thinks back on the first time shes saw a meteor shower when she was four. And now here she is, eight years later, walking up to the tower in the Astronomy tower to watch them. She received a letter earlier. Seeing it was her fathers owl, she was curious why he would owl her. Normally if she received a letter from him, he uses her mothers owl, Juliet, and has a little note from her mother with it. From her short time in Hogwarts (two years) she found out that only letters from her father are just as rare and those sweet moments she spent with him.
Once she gets to the last step she looks around before she climbs the last step. Walking to the middle of the room she lays down the blanket she brought with her on the floor. Sitting down on it, she buries herself deeper into her sweater. Leaning back on her hands, she tilts her head towards the sky and closes her eyes. Wind gently blows her hair. Her cheeks and nose were rosy from the cold.
Wearing two sweaters and leggings the cold still found a way to affect her with the coldness. Shivering ever so slightly, she blinks her eyes open. Adjusting to the darkness, she reminds herself that in a short time it wont be so dark.

Falling like the stars

The Slytherin surprised himself with how seriously he treated every lesson at Hogwarts. The combined intellect of his parents was undoubtedly a powerful trait Luca had inherited from the hardest-working people he knew. The boy had always quietly resented his parents for being away for business as often as they were, but he never doubted their love. During the memories that Luca did have with Amelia and Lorenzo, there was a memorable balance between teaching moments and moments of pure joy. His parents’ lessons further strengthened his determination and willpower as he worked through his second year at Hogwarts.

The balance was difficult to maintain on the all-too-often occasion when both his mother and father had to be away at the same time, but Lillianna did her best to play both roles. She was a bright, young witch whom the Corranados entrusted with the nurturing and care of their only son in their absence. Without a doubt, Lillianna loved Luca fiercely, and that too was not lost on the young boy with a developing mind. In his parents’ absence, Luca developed a work ethic that felt like proof he could keep up with them. Lillianna always had a kind word to remind him that growing up didn’t need to be rushed.
Hard workers forget to look up. Promise me you’ll look up, not just forward, Lillianna told him a few short days before he was buried in studies before the arrival of his Hogwarts letter. Luca had not heeded her words much during his first year, but he made an effort to do so in his second year. Based on astronomical charts, a predicted meteor shower was visible from the Astronomy Tower that evening. Undoubtedly, the Slytherin had already determined how this might further his goals of being the top duellist and renowned Auror, but he pushed those thoughts aside to remember to look up.
After a satisfying meal in the great hall, Luca walked just a little slower than usual through the courtyard. Starting his effort to look up for efficiency’s sake, he enjoyed the night sky and noticed how the low ambient light made the stars easily visible. Perhaps it was magic? No. Not everything needed a reason, the boy thought and mentally corrected himself for overanalyzing the night sky. As he made his way up the passageway towards the Ravenclaw Tower, he turned off his mind and enjoyed the scenery. Making a sharp left past the base of Ravenclaw Tower, Luca started up the long spiral stairs to the top of the Astronomy Tower.
As he ascended, the bitter November cold became more apparent at higher altitudes, causing Luca to walk the stairs more slowly as his hands were not readily available to break a fall. As he reached the peak of the tower, the night sky provided just enough light to see that he was not alone. It was not immediately apparent, but as the boy’s eyes adjusted to the ambient light, Luca recognized the person as someone he was familiar with. Facing away from him, he observed Bree Grey leaning back on her hands, sitting on blankets.
He straightened his posture before speaking, “Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t think anyone else would be up here.”

At she stares into the black sky, she hears footsteps walking up the stairs at a slow but steady pace. Not bothering to turn around when she heard the footsteps stop, she ends up surprised when she hears a familiar voice. Luca. Their longest interactions somehow always fall on the train ride to Hogwarts. Turning around she smiles softly at him, "That's okay. I wasn't doing anything really. Just waiting." She rolls up her sleeve on her right arm to check the time to see how long she has to wait, "For hopefully five more minutes. The meteor shower. I didn't know that it was today until my father sent me a letter. Are you watching them too? Or did you want to chill up here in the dark today?"Word Count: 325

Letting out a soft laugh and a smile, she tilts her head back up to the sky. Bree never was into stars or astronomy. Never really been able to pay attention in class, just enough to meet her mothers standards in grades. Sure she knew some basic stuff, mostly from what she learned here. She knows her zodiac sign (which is a Virgo), she knows her parents signs (although it takes her a moment to remember). And she knows meteor showers. What caught her eye about them eight years ago was how pretty they were. Like diamonds in the sky. They sparkled and shined, showing the young girl beauty in the world. Now Bree has noticed how ugly the world could be at times, so watching the stars fall from the sky turned into a gift from mother nature.
Checking her watch once more, disappointed to see that only two minutes have passed, she turns towards Luca, "DO you have it easy in astronomy? Like do you like doing the class? To be honest I cant really pay attention in that class. Other than the meteor showers Im not that into the stars and stuff."

Bree’s smile was returned with quiet warmth, and Luca smiled softly back, bowing his head slightly in greeting to the other second year. The young Slytherin was practicing balance between academics and socialization, but he didn’t need to descend to barbarism by abandoning manners to do it. His mother and nanny’s lessons in etiquette remained at the forefront of his mind when dealing with people. A few moments later, the young wizard looked up into the sky past the Gryffindor as she commented on the time until the shower. Even when he wasn’t trying to be perfect and punctual, Luca still managed to arrive at the meteor shower at a fairly precise time. Curses, the boy thought.

“A bit of both, I suppose. I heard about the shower, and I never shy away from a quiet moment alone, but I welcome your presence—I’ll never turn away good company, either,” Luca said evenly. After it was determined that they were there for the same purpose, the boy stepped forward slightly to get a better view of the impending shower through the open top of the Astronomy Tower. He was sure to keep a respectful distance and not crowd Bree’s space, but he did not sit down yet. Luca did not want to presume that Bree would want him to sit with her.
“Astronomy is difficult for me because it forces patience and waiting, which is something I struggle with,” the Slytherin said quietly. As there were slight indications of the shower beginning soon in the sky, Luca’s mind began to reframe the meteor showers as rare, high-value moments—not because they were academic, but because they don’t repeat often. His eyes caught the occasional light streak and very subtle atmospheric changes in the night sky. Watching quietly, he adjusted his cloak and gloves before settling and sitting down, hoping she would not be offended by it.
A final thought occurred to him regarding the fact that meteor showers could not be rushed or predicted perfectly, which twinged in the back of his mind. This was a direct contrast to the predictable, controlled environment Luca had created for himself over the last year and change. However, he was here to break out of that shell of perfection he was starting to develop around himself. The shower was about to begin.

He smiles back at the Gryffindor and nods his head to her in greeting. Giving him a little wave back, she questions him whether or not he's watching the showers. There's always a chance that he enjoys sitting in the astronomy tower at night for peace. Although if that's the reason, he'd have to deal with her. He replies to her question. Smiling at him, she stares back up into the sky, "I would offer to leave but there's no way in any universe I'm going to miss the beauty that's about to erupt in the sky. Although sometimes certain moments are better spent with company. This is the first one I haven't watched with my father."Word Count: 440

Glancing over to him, she finds herself surprised that he got closer somehow. She didn't hear him stepping closer or anything. As if he had feet of feathers. Scooting over on her blanket to make room for him, she hopes he got the memo. She didn't want to speak, at least not now, while the peaceful quiet blankets him. After a few moments the silence became a tad bit uncomfortable, so she decided to break it. Questioning him if he had it easy in class, (and admitting that she in fact didn't) she tilts her head slightly as he answers. Surprisingly he didn't either.
"Looks like patience isn't our thing." Letting out a soft laugh, she catches a small streak of light in the sky before she finished talking. Snapping her head up she forgot all the words that she was going to say and the question she was going to ask. More importantly the shower is starting soon. As she stared up into the sky, he sat down. Realization struck her, "Oh my god! I'm sorry! I was going to tell you, you could sit down but I might've gotten distracted!" Blushing slightly, she remembers what she was going to tell him. Her face reddens more as she glances up as the meteor shower begins.
As the stars streaked through the night sky, awe shot through her. The beauty if it was absolutely mind blowing to her. The sky transformed in front of her from its darkness, that's broken up here and there with the glimmer of the stars, to a dazzling sky filled with lights from the shooting stars. No matter how many times she will or have seen it, it amazes her that the world could have something so beautiful, so unique, and so enticing in the one place that everyone under appreciates. The shooting stars reflect in her eyes as she watches it with such admiration one could manage.

Falling like the stars

The astronomy tower was perhaps one of the darkest locations at Hogwarts, so it was difficult for Luca to miss the first streak of light from the meteor shower. He found his mind drifting toward an analysis of how meteor showers were just space rocks burning into the atmosphere and dying, nothing more. However, before the thought was finished, the Slytherin’s inner child was wrestling the emerging adult back into the headspace of being a twelve-year-old boy enjoying what was arguably breathtaking. He caught Bree making room for him on her blanket out of the corner of his eye, but was hastily invited to sit down during the shower.

The boy stood there quietly for a moment before sitting down and offering Bree a smile for making room for him. Luca stared up at the sky as it lit up with each meteor that flew by briefly before fizzling out. The light from the shower briefly brightened the astronomy tower every few moments, with occasional brighter flashes that nearly made Luca squint. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed that Bree’s reaction was much more animated and filled with awe. While he enjoyed the show, he didn’t fully comprehend why this was so amazing to her, though he turned his full gaze back to the sky.
As the shower continued, Luca came to appreciate the quiet moment between himself and Bree, someone he counted among his acquaintances. This was a moment that he stored nothing away — only the moment itself. “That looks really cool,” the boy said quietly, not trying to ruin the moment.

If she was able to or was allowed to, she wouldve gone back to the time of dinosaurs. For completely different reason then the normal ones. She not just some kid who has a weird obsession with dinosaurs and constanly tries to play pretend with them. In fact she doesnt really care for them. She has no desire to see a dinosaur and see something no one else has seen. No she would go back to see how nature was before people became a thing and distroyed its beauty. Thinking about it she would rather go back to when earth was first created. No living things other than plants. It actually sounded quite peaceful. But even then no one has pulled natures beauty away. Which is why she found someone calling it really cool slightly upsetting but not too much to throw off any bad vibes.Word Count: 346

Letting out a soft sigh that had a small trace of sadness she realized something deep down. Not everyone will understand how this affects her. As she watches the last remnants of the shower, her mind wanders back to her first memory of seeing it. The stars was tied to something else with her. It wasnt just the beauty of it. It was one thing her and her father actually shared. Something that, at the time, she believed nothing could take from them. And it happens to be very comforting to her too.
She didnt say anything in response to his comment until minutes passed. The silence between them felt like an eternity, although she enjoyed the quiet. About ten or so minutes later she finally opens her mouth, although never taking her eyes away from the sky.
"Its pure beauty. Flaws or no flaws its somethign where no words could describe it. I wonder if people just took at least five minutes of their day to appreciate things like this, would they be happier.." With a dreamlike sigh and the wonder of the night still sparkling in her eyes, she watched as the streaks slowly started to die down.

The Slytherin sat there in silence throughout the entire shower, eyes fixed upon the sky high above the astronomy tower they shared, his legs crossed beneath him. Luca valued precision and control in most situations he found himself in, so it was only natural that he found silence with a companion comfortable, rather than forced conversation without purpose. The young wizard reminded himself that being here — simply being here — was the point, so quietly enjoying something new to him was good for that.

Beauty. Flaws. The words turned over in the analytical boy’s mind.
Slowly, he allowed a few more moments of silence to slip over them like a wave of energy. While Bree likely referred to the aesthetics of a meteor shower, the words landed a little differently with Luca. The thought of hearing his acquaintance defending a flaw as beauty was interesting. Using ‘beauty’ and ‘flawed’ in the same sentence was an oxymoron, but not entirely false either. The young boy viewed the shower as raw power, and while that was not something Luca sought, he realized the power in being precise. Targeted power was better than wild power, but it was power nevertheless.
“I think so. I almost didn’t come up here tonight,” the young boy said, in a rare moment of honest vulnerability. His mind wandered back to Lillianna’s reminder to be a kid, and that was the deciding factor in seeking something he wasn’t going to analyze. Bree’s words about taking the time to appreciate reinforced his nanny’s words, so the corner of his mouth curved up slightly. Readjusting his expression, he looked down at her after answering. Allowing a small smile to play across his lips, Luca stood up and offered a hand to Bree to help her stand.
“Thank you for the quiet moment. I think I will retire to the common room now, but I hope to see you around school more,” Luca said with a quiet confidence. He thought about past experiences with girls he’d tried to invite places where he ended up being met with metaphorical silence, and compared it to the positive interactions he’s had with her since she had been here. With this, though, he allowed a small measure of charm into his smile before holding his hand out to guide her down the stairs if she planned to leave as well.
