King’s Cross Station was bustling with the cluttered, loud, and filled with obnoxiously normal muggles, something the Morvale family was not fairly fond of. There was no magic in the air, and Cassian could feel it. As he walked between his parents with his head lifted in refinement as he refused to allow the chaotic environment of the muggles commuters, both with his facial expressions. If he was displeased by the sight, no one would have none the difference from his steadiness within his demeanor. While Morvales didn’t conduct themselves as snobs in public, they did have a keen sense of observation and always seemed to rise above and resist any urge to cause a ruckus. Dorian Morvale moved swiftly, cutting through the crowd, wearing special tailor-made robes that could pass for Muggle wear. Selene was on Cassian’s left, holding on to the trolley with her gloved hands, elegant and composed like her husband. There was no speaking as they moved about the crowd, as there was no need. Their silence made the family distinct, placing them aside from the mundane disorder happening around them.
Cassian’s gaze was now fixed upward as they passed along the platform signage.
Platform nine.
Platform ten.
There was a strange normalcy to the Muggles in their lives as they whizzed by them. Cassian turned his attention to the brick wall where a young wizard was in mid-stride through the secret barrier that separated the Muggle environment of King’s Cross station and Platform 9 & ¾ where all of the wizarding community were putting their school-age students onto the Hogwarts Express. The fact that they were expected to run into a brick wall in the middle of all of these muggles seemed very barbaric and outdated to Cassian. He eventually pushed it aside as Pure-bloods were expected to act with class and uphold proper etiquette that depicts obedience in public. They took a pause as his mother took the time to fix his robes and the collar in his shirt.
“Remember, Cassian,” she said calmly in a low voice, “Observe twice, act once. The mind is always the sharpest advantage for a witch or wizard.” He nodded his head, soaking in the wisdom he tends to pretend not to desire. The Dorian leaned over in a still voice commanding attention, “And one more thing, no slips from you, Cassian Morvale.” Cassian looked up, already knowing that his father was mentioning. His father was afraid of his Parselmouth abilities being discovered and ruining Cassian’s chances at Hogwarts. “Your gift heard on the wrong ears could make things dangerous for you at school, not to mention the strain it would put on me at the Ministry.”
Cassian understood his father was very serious about the words he was speaking. While he did plan to keep his secret to himself, he didn’t plan to ignore it either. Taking his father’s word with careful consideration, he responded, “Yes, Father.” He gave an approving nod and moved towards the barrier. Dorian took the trolley from his wife and pushed into the barrier, disappearing from their sight. With a warm smile and a rub of his shoulder, Selene took.off in a brisk stride disappearing into the bricks right after Dorian. It was now Cassian’s turn to make it through the barrier. Cassian inhaled once, calming his anxiety to keep his nonchalant composure, and then stepped forward before sprinting at and pushing through the barrier. There was a sense of a cold rush that went over Cassian’s body as he appeared to a lively platform filled with clattering students, family, and unique callings from the magical creatures in their transport cages. The steam was thick in the air from the Hogwarts Express, and magic was filling the atmosphere at every turn. There were prefects directing traffic and trunks floating to their destinations and pure-blood crests gleaming on passing robes. Cassian could felt tremendously better in this environment than the one that was on the other side of the barrier at King’s Cross station. Selene pressed a cool kiss to the side of his head, and Dorian gave a brief nod of approval, as he was not known for overt affection.
“Go on now,” Selene said quietly. “Time to begin your story. Make yourself into someone worthy.”
Cassian gave them both a smile and headed towards the train, holding on to his poise and posture as he wrestled his trunk off the trolley. As he stepped up the steps of the train, Cassian looked back and waved one last time at his parents as he boarded. The Morvale heir was walking into his time at Hogwarts to fulfill his destiny, Parselmouth secret and all.
