A New Adventure Begins
Finally it was the day. Since she had received her letter from Hogwarts Rose was waiting for that day impatiently. Today was the day she was finally going to Hogwarts.
She arrived quite early at the railway station because she was so nervous, excited and afraid of being late that she stressed out her parents and her brother who was going to start his 3rd year at Hogwarts not to be late to not miss the train. It was really amusing to see her that happy and all excited to start a new chapter of her life.
Indeed Rose couldn't wait.
When she arrived on the platform 93/4 and saw all the other people there she felt a bit anxious to be surrounded by so many unknown and unfamiliar faces. However as soon as she saw the train waiting for everyone to get in before leaving she happily smiled and headed towards it with her brother after saying goodbye to her parents.
Her brother who was not a new student had obviously already his own friends. Thus he went to another coach to meet them after wishing her sister good luck and that they would meet later.
Rose then entered the train to find compartments and students in the hallway of the train or already installed in their compartment. It seemed that a lot of them knew each other already.
She tried not to worry too much since it was maybe not first year students like her. She made her way through to look at each compartment hoping to find one empty.
Maybe she was wrong to seat alone in a compartment since it might be during the trip to Hogwarts she could start knowing other students who could become her friends later but she was actually too shy to go in one already occupied and to ask if she could join even if there would be no reason for the occupants to refuse her. However she was feeling more comfortable to get in one empty and if other people wanted to join her she would gladly accept.
As she was in her thought she walked by an empty compartment as she was looking for. She opened the door and enter in. It looked cozy and really comfy. That was giving a warmth feeling Rose liked. She put her trunk above her not without any difficulties but ended to manage it.
And sat at a seat near the window. She liked seeing the view while traveling.
The train slowly departed as she thought of the adventures that might await her.

Taylor was almost late, yet again. She had an excuse, though. Her parents were very emotional, the type to squeeze her half to death every five minutes...
So they kept hugging her until the last whistle. Her brother, Mike, had managed to get out of the strangling hugging scene, by immediately joining one of his friends on the platform 93/4.
When she managed to jump (literally) into the wagon, the train started. It was shaking, and she got scared that her trunk would fall on her and crush her, or knock her out. Which was very possible, with its weight. Her mom was a rather chaotic packer. Taylor didn't care, though. She had all she needed (and much, much more), and she would probably lose half of it, or hide it away in a drawer to rot. She was kind of messy.
She walked through the bunch of students that were, for some reason, blocking the corridor. She hesitated to tell them to go elsewhere, but she didn't want to make enemies. She'd probably end up being friends with them, knowing her sociable habits. It always happens.
The noise was a bit overwhelming, and her chest tightened a bit. "It's fine, Taylor. It's okay." She thought. She tried to find her brother, but he was, much to Taylor's disappointment, already in a full compartment with his friends. "Go make friends," he said. "It's your thing."
It may be her thing, but it doesn't make it less stressful ! She thought. To calm down, she remembered the day she got her letter for Hogwarts. She was so excited that she had gone to Flourish and Blotts on the same day. She HAD to know everything she needed to know before arriving there.
Finally, she found a compartment that seemed rather empty. She didn't take much time to study it, as she got pushed by another student into the cabin. That seemed like fate pushing her. Sort of. Unsure on what to do, she sat in front of the girl who was in the cabin.
She put, a bit too roughly, her trunk on the seat next to her. Then she did her thing.
"Hi ! I'm Taylor. Taylor Price. I'm so excited to be here. I'm so ready. I read all the books. My mom said not to get too excited, but I think she was just sad because she'll miss me. Anyway, I'm talking too much again." She giggles.
"So, um...what's your name ?"

A New Adventure Begins
Rose was lost in her thought looking out at the window as the train was leaving -finally- the station. She couldn't wait to arrive and see the castle. Her brother has told her about it way too much and too good for her to get disappointed by it unless he lied which of course he had never done. Thought he could be a prankster sometimes he was not a liar especially to his sister.
Rose wondered what he was doing and she might have wanted to go and see him but he was probably with his friends. Plus it seemed to be quite busy in the corridor outside the compartments by the noises coming from it. She didn't dare to go to check and walk until to find her brother's compartment while having to make her way through other students.
Rather she decided to stay there while slowly closing her eyes starting to dream about Hogwarts. Although the compartment door seemed to be quite thick -and was- all the fuss outside could still be slightly heard making hard to completely fall asleep.
She just opened her eyes while getting lost in her thoughts again when suddenly she heard the door being opened. At the sound of it she turned around to see who was the new comer.
It was a short girl with long red hair. She didn't seem to really look at the inside of the compartment before entering rather it seemed as she was pushed there by the people out in the corridors.
Her too might have struggled to find a compartment empty or at least with some available seats. Thought Rose while looking at the girl.
She seemed nice. Maybe she is also a first year like me? Thinking kept going on on Rose's mind about the newcomer identity. She stopped looking at her to not seem to rude and as someone who stared at people too much. Plus she didn't want the girl to think Rose was staring for her to leave since it wasn't the case.
Shortly after the girl sat right in front of Rose and started to talk quite a lot thought Rose especially for someone she had just met and didn't know.
I could have never talked this much to someone I have just sat in front of. Thought Rose quite impressed by the girl confidence.
The girl's name was Taylor. As she was finishing talking Rose flashed her a gentle smile before introducing herself back.
"Hi I'm Rose, Rose Pearce. Nice to meet you Taylor." Rose said trying not to show her shyness with a small smile.
She had to say something else for the atmosphere not to become to heavy and awkward.
"So..are you also a first year student?" It was the only question that came to her mind and she could have thought about and asked at this moment.

"Rose is such a pretty name ! I like flower names. I have cousins in France, and their mom is called Marguerite. That's, like, Daisy, in french. But Daisy is my second name. Taylor Daisy Price. Don't tell anyone. My parents like names. So they gave me a bunch. It's like they couldn't decide !"
Taylor felt a little ashamed of herself. She had talked too much, again. That also always happens. Sometimes, people ignore her. Sometimes they answer. Its' always a gamble
She thought this girl would be shy enough to be one of those who ignore her. The ones who shake their head and look at the landscape. Or who act like they didn't hear altogether. Which is fine, but it would've made this train ride a lot longer.
But she didn't. And that brought a smile to Taylor's lips as she watched the landscape through the window.
She looked her over a bit - not enough to be rude, but enough to see her. "We kind of look similar," she thought. Or maybe it's the red hair. And the freckles. And the short height. She looked sporty. "Maybe we'll get to talk about Quidditch, or Muggle sports !"
"Right, she asked a question." Taylor remembered suddenly.
"Oh, right. Yeah, I am a first year ! My twin brother too, but he's in another compartment with his friends. God, I can't believe we're going to Hogwarts !"
She bounced slightly with excitement. She had so much to say and to ask.
Was she muggle-born, wizard-born, or even a half-blood like her ?
Did she also read all the books ?
What house did she want to get ?
Did she know people in the school ?
Shoot, is Taylor taking her potential friend's spot ?
But she couldn't just monologue her way into making a friend, as her mom often said. So she stopped instead and she offered Rose a bright warm smile.

A New Adventure Begins
As Taylor was talking Rose was carefully listening to her.
It may be never boring around her. Thought Rose
It was indeed amusing seeing someone speaking that much and so enthusiastically that Rose slightly smiled at this sight.
Although Rose preferred quiet place she didn't mind when someone was talking a lot because it was also happening to her once she was getting comfortable with the person. Nevertheless she could also be a good listener. Plus she couldn't blame Taylor for being that excited and curious since they were riding to Hogwarts where they would meet a lot of new people and also a total new environment. So Rose was totally understanding Taylor's excitement. Maybe she was also naturally like this?
Taylor told Rose she was also a first year like her with her twin brother. Rose envied her a bit even though she had a brother but if they were twin they could spend more time together especially if they were sorted out in the same house.
"Oh you have a twin brother! What's his name?" asked Rose before pursuing.
"I, too, have a brother, who is in another compartment as well with his friends so I totally get you." said Rose with a small laugh.
As same as Taylor Rose couldn't believe it neither she was finally going to Hogwarts and she was as excited as her even if she wasn't showing it the same way.
"Indeed, I neither can't believe it. It feels like yesterday that I received the Hogwarts letter and today I'm on the train to go there." added Rose smiling while looking at the view.
She usually didn't talk that much to stranger but since Taylor was talkative and leading the conversation Rose didn't want to seem closed up and she enjoyed being able to talk to someone before getting to the school. Who knows Taylor might become her first friend?
By Taylor's voice tone and gestures Rose could tell she wanted to ask many questions. That amused her. Thus she looked at Taylor with a gentle smile to notify her she could ask all the questions she may have whether about Hogwarts or her.

Taylor was even more excited now. She was convinced Rose would become her friend, now. And that was a good thing.
"My twin's name is Mike. He's basically the opposite of me. Very quiet and calm. He says I talk enough for the both of us, which is probably true. But he’s really nice! He just prefers… y’know, not being in the middle of everything." she says in a light chuckle.
She thought that maybe Rose liked talking to her, since she was answering. So maybe she could ask all the questions going through her mind. Or just some of them !
"I can't wait to meet new people," she explains, her words speeding up without her noticing. "I love making new friends. It's kind of my thing, according to my parents, and my brother and my friends from Dublin. According to everyone, basically."
She was almost bouncing on her seat. Which, of course, made her trunk slip from the seat and crush her foot.
"Ow ! Merlin, sorry. I tend to get overexcited. If you didn't notice." She jokes.
She decide to avoid the possible crushing of her other foot by putting the trunk above her head. Effortlessly if you ask her, with a tiny difficulty if you're being honest. Her foot was now hurting, but she tried to hide the pain from her face.
"So, you said you had a brother too ! What's his name ? In what year is he ? Is he older ? Which house ? Oh, what house do you hope to get ? I, for one, have no idea. They all seem so great ! But Mike is hoping for Ravenclaw. It fits, I think. Well, according to what I read in my Hogwarts History book ! Did you read it ?"
Then Taylor decided that maybe smothering the little girl with questions was NOT the right move. She pressed her lips together, trying to stop the questions from pouring out.
But Rose seemed really nice, so... maybe kind enough to handle a Taylor-shaped hurricane ?

A New Adventure Begins
As soon as Rose's questions were asked Taylor didn't take any minutes to answer. She really loved talking. She told Rose her bother's name was Mike and that he was the opposite of her so his character might have actually been closer to Roses.
When Taylor told her people said it was easier for her to make friends Rose didn't even doubt about it. Certainly it may be by how talkative she was.
Sometimes Rose envied this kind of person and temperament: being able to go to people and casually talk to them just to get to know them without any worries or second thoughts on the outcomes or how to talk. Of course Rose liked herself as she was but wished sometimes this part to be easier for her. Thus seeing someone like this in front of her was amusing her and she was thinking maybe it could help her.
But suddenly Taylor was so excited she was bouncing on her seat and her trunk fell right on her foot. Rose felt sorry for her.
"Is your foot okay?" she worryingly asked since the trunk might have been heavier by how Taylor put it above her. Rose might have offered her help but Taylor managed to do it by herself.
"And yes my brother's name is Ewan and is 13 years old. He is going to start his 3rd year at Hogwarts! He is in Ravenclaw the same house I'm hoping for. All my dad's family were in Ravenclaw -including my brother- so I wish to be sorted out here as well!" Rose answered Taylor her eyes sparkling of admiration for her brother and a hint of determination.
"Well...if not then Gryffindor like my mom but I'm not quite sure to have the right fit for it though" added Rose mindfully with a slight laugh.
"Actually, I haven't read it yet. Not that I don't feel like it but I wanted to reach the castle first and read it there. It might sound weird since people usually read it beforehand to know the history before coming." said Rose with a small chuckle.
Maybe it was because of how talkative Taylor was or her many questions but Rose found it quite easy to talk with her. She didn't specifically feel anxious or nervous by talking to a new face. Maybe they were meant to indeed be friends.

"Oh, yeah, my foot's fine!" Taylor answered quickly, even though she definitely felt a small throbbing pulse in her toes. She tried to sit still and not wiggle them in pain. "It happens a lot. I'm very, uh… gravity-compatible."
She gave a small smile...but then brightened up when Rose talked about her brother.
"Ewan is such a cool name! And third year? That means he already knows everything! You're so lucky ! Mike and I will probably get lost the minute we step inside the castle. Or before. Maybe on the boats. That would be very on-brand for us."
She laughed, imagining it.
"And Ravenclaw? Wow…" Her eyes widened with admiration. "Mike is dreaming of it too. If you end up there, he’ll have someone to talk with. "
She added in a whisper. "I read Hogwarts: A History three times. I may have over-prepared. But thinking of it, waiting to read it at the castle is actually amazing ! It makes everything feel like a real adventure. Like discovering it for yourself."
She sighed. This was good. She made a friend, she thought, before even getting to the castle.
Then Taylor saw a woman with a trolley cart approaching. Oh, this ought to be awesome.
"Do you want candy ?" She quickly asked, her excitement coming back, before the woman arrived at their compartment.

When Taylor told Rose she was gravity-compatible the expression made Rose chuckled. It was the first time she was hearing something like that. But she got what Taylor meant.
"That makes the both of us." said Rose laughing.
I'm not bad myself and quite good at being clumsy." she said grinning.
Rose couldn't imagine if Taylor and her were to be together both clumsy in their own way and the mess it could be. Though that would be fun.
As Taylor said Ewan was a good name Rose couldn't help but smile.
"Yes indeed! I'm quite jealous since it's a Scottish name as well, and obviously Rose is not. Not that I don't like my name, but having a name coming from the country you're from always hit different." Rose said while sadly smiling.
"It's true he could and will help me if I need anything but he will be also quite busy between his classes, Quidditch training and his friends. So I don't expect seeing him a lot." she said as she was slightly laughing.
"Plus I like discovering things by myself first before asking for help even if I got lost." she added eyes sparkling.
It may seem weird but Rose liked finding ways by herself to get out of difficult or unknown situation. Of course if she couldn't she was going to ask for help but that would be after a long debate in her mind. There were some reasons for it. The one she told Taylor about discovering by herself but also and above all she didn't want to be a burden to anyone by asking help when other people may have better things to do. Obviously if she were asking to her brother he would gladly help her without hesitation but she didn't want to bother him even if he wouldn't think this way and would be more than happier to help her.
Rose was still in her thought when Taylor's voice came to her ears again.
"Then I hope your brother will be sorted out in Ravenclaw!" said Rose encouragingly.
"Yes but there is not a good or wrong way. Each of us do it its own way! If you were curious and wanted to read it why waiting." said Rose with a gentle smile towards Taylor.
"And knowing beforehand is also good when we go to an unknown place. We know better what to expect." Rose said still smiling.
Taylor was an unpredictable girl really easy to talk to. Rose may have made her first friend before reaching the castle.
Suddenly Taylor asked her if she wanted some candies and Rose turn her head only to see the lady candy as she used to call the woman with the trolley cart when her brother talked to her about it.
She saw the trolley cart and her brother didn't really minimize how great it looked!
However Rose wasn't really a candy person she was barely eating some. But she would feel bad to answer no to Taylor especially seeing how excited she was and if they were becoming friends too.
Instead Rose smiled and answered to Taylor.
"Oh thank you! Take whatever you want to! Take it for you!!"
She hoped it didn't seem too rude.

“She looked towards the dark, starry sky wishing she could drown in its vastness, the way one drifts in the deep, endless ocean.”

A New Adventure Begins
Taylor smiled. "That girl could talk too," she thought. I just needed to make her open up."
"Yeah, I get that. My name isn't Irish, but I kind of wish it was. My parents weren't born in Ireland, though, so I guess that explains it."
She was kind of disappointed that Rose wasn't a candy girl like she was...then remembered it meant more candy for her. She asked the candy lady for a mix of everything.
She doesn't get to have all the candies at home. Her dad and her brother always end up eating it all. They stay fit though. Unfair. But that probably explains her rather slender figure. She just never feels hungry. Always eats before the hunger arrives. Although, for candy, she never lacked appetite.

Surrounded by all the sweets, Taylor couldn't choose. What would she eat first ? The chocolate frogs, the flavoured beans ?
Feeling brave, she picked one of the beans. "Oh, no ! I got rotten egg. That's so disgusting !", she complained in a giggle. She coughed, and took many sips of water to get rid of that horrible taste. Then, she decided to eat a chocolate frog. "Now, THAT is good."
She looked outside of their compartment at the window. "Hey, did you hear a noise ?" she asked, looking out the window. She saw the beautiful landscape...but no explanation for what she heard.
"I think I heard something."
