Surprise in the morning
It was a completely normal day at Anna's home in London. She had woken up early to study, Cycled round her block a few times, woken up her brother (that took a full half hour, boys were so exasparating) and had come down to breakfast. She saw her mum cutting the vegetables and looking after the stew on the stove and immediately took over the job at once, insisting that her mom needed a break after all the hard work she had done for all this time. When Anna went out to pick up the mail after eating a delicious breakfast, she found a surprise for her in the mailbox. Sure, she got letters from people even in this age of computers and mobile phones, as letters were way nicer, or so her friends group thought, but this was nothing like any letter she had ever gotten. Made of yellow thick paper, looked like the aged paper you could buy at craft stores, with a wax seal bearing a badger, lion, eagle and snake round a large letter 'H' and was adressed, 'Anna Fields, Bedroom on the right, Fields mansion, Opposite Goodwill park, Greenwich, London. This was not a normal letter, after all, who addressed a letter with the bedroom? Not anyone she knew. Hardly noticing that her feet were carrying her back into the house, forgetting all the other letters in the mailbox meant for her parents.
Her parents looked at her with only one letter in her hand and asked "What have you got there Anna?" Her mother walked forwards and looked at the letter and smiling broadly, said to her husband, "She's got the Hogwarts Letter!"
Now Anna was at a loss. What was Hogwarts? How did her parents know about it? All that was explained when her mother said, "Dear, this is one thing we've kept from you all this time, the knowledge that you are a witch and that magic is real, but that's not a bad thing", she said, forestalling Anna as she made to open her mouth to say what a bad thing that was, that she had evil powers, "It's a good thing, It means you're special. Hogwarts is a school to train young witches and wizards. I'm a witch too, and I studied there, you will have the time of your life. This letter means you've been accepted into Hogwarts, and that you're a witch. You will leave for Hogwarts on the first of September but we can go to wizard London's shopping street, Diagon Alley tomorrow to get all your school supplies, and also, the term for non magical people like all the people near us here, is 'muggle'."
Anna was feeling a whole whirl of emotions, mostly excitement and slight nervousness. This was all new to her, would she fit in? She felt a little sad too though, this meant she'd be leaving her life here in the muggle world, all her friends, her school, all behind. But this was the wizarding world, where she would be like others. This was where she belonged.
