Once they arrived to the huge, magnificent castle by boat, they were insturcted to wait in a separate area. Then a professor came to lead them to the Great Hall, asking them to line up in alphabetical order. It took quite a long time for the professor to check her list and get that line of kids done, then finally, the huge doors of the Great Hall opened up before them, to face the whole school: four tables with students and a big table with teachers.

As Tessa walked up to the front of the Hall, near the professors, where the Sorting Hat was placed on a stool, she felt anxious. She spotted Carrie at the front part of the line, quite far from her, and it seemed she didn't feel any better. To be honest, Tessa felt like a huge crowd was staring at her. Even if there was a bunch of fellow first years there, she did feel like they were staring and laughing only at her. She wanted to hide herself under a rock, as she felt like she was way too markable by her natural flame-red locks and million freckles.

As she was looking around the Hall, scanning the faces of elder students nervously, she didn't pay enough attention, and ended up steppin onto the edge of the robes of the black-haired girl who walked right before her in the line. 'Sorry... I'm so sorry...!' - she said, hoping that neither the girl, nor the clothing got hurt, and she wouldn't make a scene about the redhead's false step. Being exposed to the whole school was fairly enough... she didn't need any other reason to get the attention of the whole room, however, she knew that her moment would come soon...

There was no scene, but the girl's robes got ripped. Tessa's face immediately changed to tomato red, feeling ashamed. Argus, her adoptive father would have surely told her off to pay more attention. She wanted to cry. She wasn't even sorted, but already did something bad... She quickly deducted ten points from whatever house she may join. How Argus told her to behave, try not to get into trouble to avoid point loss and make her house proud! Would she be able to do it at all?

It was a pleasant disappointment to see how kind the girl acted, stating she got used to ripped clothing. That made her think... Was she poor? Usually only poor people didn't mind ripped clothing. This thought made her feel even more ashamed, as they couldn't complain, thanks to Argus' Ministry salary. As some morons started to snicker at her unlucky moment, Tessa sent them an evil glare. She also seemed to be frustrated, as she hissed a weird word quite angrily. Good job Tessa. You absolutely made her day... - she thought bitterly, even if the whole thing wasn't on purpose.

As she asked her to explain what was happening, Tessa started to get calmer. She looked back at the girl, suddenly realizing how interesting her hair color was: she discovered a blue glow on it in the lights of the Hall. So probably it wasn't even black, as she thought for the first time. She looked at her with a bleak smile and quickly breathed in and out to collect her thoughts about the event and to be able to speak. 'Well, we were asked to line up in alphabetical order... we'll go to that stool one by one and the professor over there will place the Sorting Hat on our head... and... it will tell our house, I guess?' - she gabbled a bit too fast, hoping she was helpful enough. 'Erm... I'm Tessa.' - she added quickly, just in case she wanted to know who ruined her robes.
