summary, this thread is happening on NOVEMBER 5TH, 2025, in the EVENING with @AIDEN SINCLAIR / wc: 632.

There was something about a birthday that really lit the soul on fire. Sure, he still hadn't made much friends and he spent a lot of the day spiraling and blowing a pathetic bewitched cupcake and making some wish, but being fifteen felt mature in comparison to some of the other students. There was a weight lifted that he made is this far, two months into school now and it felt like he was finally settling into the routine of things with enough bite and push to keep some of the more ambitious students at bay. All in all, he was enjoying his time at Hogwarts even if some of the Summer stress still plagued his mind.

He hadn't wanted to feel the pang of possession eating at him, but it still caused him nightmares or a night sweat that had him checking every digit to ensure that it was Harlan who was still in control and not something that lodged itself into him lingering somewhere in his psyche. It was best he didn't spend too much time feeding the beast and focused on how to steel his resolve. Occulumency was far beyond his own capabilities but it felt like the best tool to protect his mind from attacks from all angles. He'd consider asking a professor for some information and advice but he hadn't felt connected to any of them in particular, still waiting for an opening to see if one of them might pity him just enough for support.

Despite the plaguing thoughts and the over exertion of brain capacity dissecting it in full, Harlan decided he'd take the rest of the night to be in the moment and enjoy dinner to the best of his ability. He still hadn't made much friends in Gryffindor proper, none really felt like a strong connection for him, but the year was still beginning. His eyes scanned the table before reaching for finger food that he could pick at while glancing over to some of the other houses tables for some of his favorite people to pester: the Ravenclaw table seemed empty from anyone he knew, Slytherin was the same, and Hufflepuff was rather dull too. What an absolute drag as Harlan turned his attention back to the table at some of the other fourth years mumbling something or other about girls or homework, nothing that particularly interested him.

That's when his gaze happened to capture what looked like a younger student staring at a rather striking Ravenclaw wizard. He could've been a half-veela, they had many of those there, but Harlan was more interested in teasing the boy with his obvious stolen glances. It wasn't often he found other wizards who shared his appreciation of male beauty, or maybe he just wasn't privy to those who did.

Deciding to time it right, Harlan finished his meal slowly and kept his eyes on the curly haired Slytherin and when he finished and stood up, that's when Harlan decided to time his strike. He swooped in as the other was on his way out, not caring if he was in a group or otherwise. " Hey buddy. " Hand wrapped around the boy's shoulder like a true fright as he pulled him in for a quick conversation, having to arch slightly to not tower of the Slytherin lad.

" That was a pretty handsome Ravenclaw dude, huh. I think I almost caught you staring a hole into his forehead. " It was as though Harlan was releasing a secret, his voice just loud enough for them to here but brazen enough for the boy to know that Harlan had no problem being louder too. " Almost thought you might've drooled into your dinner. " He couldn't help but tease just a little bit, it was too good to leave alone.

Aiden had barely tasted a single bite of dinner, despite the fact that he’d gone through the motions of eating it. He sat alone at the Slytherin table, his usual spot across from Aleks conspicuously empty. He wasn’t sure where his friend had wandered off to this time, and the absence left the hall feeling louder than usual. Which he thought was kind of ironic, since Aleks always had shit to say about something.

His fork-hand and mouth worked simultaneously to finish his plate, but his mind was elsewhere. And so was his gaze, glued to a brunette by the Ravenclaw table. Lorenzo did not notice him staring in the midst of talking to his table neighbour. It could have been a mutual acquaintance of theirs, though he didn’t pay enough attention to the person beside him to put a name to the back of their head. Damien, maybe. From what he’d gathered, they’d gotten closer after some mentorship extracurriculars in astronomy. Deeply suspicious. Anyway, that wasn’t what interested him right now. Aiden’s attention was solely focused on watching the first year's lips move, trying to distinguish any words to get a hint about what the conversation was about. The Slytherin had never been a lipreader, and neither was he now. Whatever was said, though, he looked to be in a pleasant mood. Smiling at the other person, acting completely unaware of the effect that smile had on people. Aiden frowned slightly, annoyed by himself that he even cared. Yeah, that’s enough.

Deciding dinner was over, he put the fork down on his largely finished plate with a light clang and pushed it away from him. He stood up, but instead of storming over to Lorenzo and forcefully inserting himself into the conversation, turned in the opposite direction and made his leave. Shoving his hands in his pockets, he walked with his eyes downcast, following the movements of his own shadow. A taller shadow appeared from behind and closed in on him. Aiden had time to lift his gaze and turn his head to the side, when an arm belonging to a bigger, older boy wrapped over his shoulders.

“Hey buddy.” The boy greeted him, a face he vaguely remembered seeing at the halloween costume contest the week prior. The only difference from then was that he wore more clothes now, and minus the makeup. Aiden watched him with a questioning look, but didn’t shove him off immediately. He should have, even if he was good looking enough that he didn’t exactly mind the proximity. Still, he didn’t know this guy, so what did he want?

“That was a pretty handsome Ravenclaw dude, huh. I think I almost caught you staring a hole into his forehead. Almost thought you might've drooled into your dinner."

There it was. Aiden was surprised to hear that someone had noticed his wandering eye. Not that it had been subtle at all. The teasing, while annoyingly expected from a Gryffindor — Quidditch player, no less — was pretty harmless, for now. Accurate, too, with some exaggeration to embarrass him. Though he didn’t doubt that the guy would say it louder for anyone in the back to hear, if provoked. Aiden rolled his eyes. The teasing was somewhat annoying, but two could play that game. Going from his previously deadpan expression, a small, teasing smirk grew on his face. Mirroring the arm still on his shoulders, Aiden wrapped the arm closest to the other guy around his more muscular waist from behind, leaning in against him. His head tilted upward, to accustom the height difference. The smirk was in place but didn’t quite reach his eyes, betraying slight annoyance. “Yeah. So? No one is giving you enough attention?”
