Dance Like Nobody's Watching!
Rosie had decided dancing next to the Great Lake barefooted was the best idea in the world.
She had thought of it randomly while laying on the floor in the Hufflepuff commons. She was bored. She had done her homework. Rosie still had time to just mess around until she was inevitably shoved into her dorm room. With a few more minutes of thought and waving her feet in the air with her back against the floor, she thought of something. The idea brought her to her feet, and out the door. Rosie skipped down the stairs and walked out of the campus, heading towards the Great Lake, and as soon as her feet met the grass, she kicked off her shoes.
Most of the grass was dry, it hadn't been raining. But near the lake, you could tell water had washed up on it a few times. She shrugged when she felt the heels of her feet get wet against the edge of the lake. Rosie was going to shower later anyway. While the twelve year old obviously kept her hygiene in check and updated so she wasn't a foul smelling bum, she also didn't care much for getting a speck of dirt on her shoes or clothes. Everytime her thoughts would wander towards being worried about how she looked after running through the grass, her dad's comment interrupted them. "If you worry too much about what the outside will do to you, you'll never get a chance to actually enjoy it." Rosie followed by his words to this day.
As soon as she felt ready to, Rosie kicked off into a sprint, mostly so she could get a running start. She leaped and spun in the air, landing on the grass with a laugh. She ventured off a little bit to the side to sit down on a dry spot, taking time to stretch. Rosie leaned down and grabbed her foot, thinking about her day. It helped pass the time when she stretched. If she rushed, she was worried she'd pull something.
I did all of my homework, right? History of Magic was a bit tiring, but I'm glad I did it. Procrastinating never goes well for me. I never got to do that pillow fort I wanted to build! Geez, I gotta ask someone to help me make it. Maybe... Ami? Or Amadea? More time to spend with Serena would be nice. Maybe I could finally talk to Reid about something. Hopefully he likes pillow forts. What about John? Wait, didn't he go home? Geez, I hope he's okay.
After stretching, Rosie stood up, wiggling her arms out. Here we go! She danced around the grass, twirling on her foot. She had been practicing during routines on and off during the year. Well, the month and a half she had been there, at least. She danced a lot more the year before, with her previous best friend. That thought made Rosie stop for a second. God, where did he go? What did she do to him?
Why weren't they friends anymore?
Rosie slapped her cheeks lightly. Snap out of it! It's his loss you guys aren't friends anymore. You're pretty cool, sometimes! With a huff, she leaped into another direction.
She had a good streak of nice dancing. Twirls, leaps, arm wiggling, in simple terms. That was, until Rosie danced too close to the lake and ended up slipping on the wet grass. "BLOODY HE-" She cried and tumbled on her back, nearly rolling into the water.
Rosie could not believe anyone in the staff thought her being a prefect was a good idea. She was utterly a mess. She ended up laughing it off and sitting up, taking a moment to gaze at the lake ahead of her, her curls falling in front of her face.
Her school really was gorgeous.

"Good job!" Astrid claps as she watches the girl come up out of the water. She was standing there the whole time, not even phased by the person's dancing. She's seen weirder things while at the school, like screaming plants. Why are those even a thing? She walks up to the lake and sits down, pulling out a flower from the ground. It was relatively small in size, but she found it pretty.
"If I were you, I would pay attention when I dance so I make sure I end up a little bit further away from the lake. Even though I'm not a one for dancing and rhythm and stuff like that. And I'm not one to take advice from... I feel like I'm right." She trails off, looking to the side. She fixes her mask and puts the flower in her hair. She slightly grins, but soon fades as her legs started getting itchy from the dry grass.
"You should probably get the grass off yourself, should you not?" She said in an unintentional condescending tone. She doesn't know why she was outside anyway. She was trying to do anything with her building hobby and she didn't have to do anything, including the fact she isn't the one for the outdoors. Maybe it was fate? She brushed it off, remembering her parents told her to make new friends and such. She sighs.

Rosie nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard someone clapping behind her. She turned around suddenly, her curly hair slapping her in the face. "Wh-PFFT." She spit out some hair that fell into her mouth. Rosie really needed a haircut. She brushed the brown locks past her and huffed quietly. Rosie had a few questions.
1. How long had she been there?
2. Why was there a mask around her mouth?
3. Could she sneak in some icecream before bed?
The last question was a bit off topic, but Rosie wondered it regardless. She listened to the girl basically give her unneeded advice. She rubbed the back of her head, a bit grumpy that her super cool dance routine had been interrupted by the clumsiness that was Rosie Parker. Regardless, Rosie offered an embarrassed smile and was nice despite being a little annoyed at her comments. "Thank you for the advice! I'll try to do that next time." She called out. The tone was a mix of cheerfulness and teasing. Rosie wasn't sure how she was able to combine the two.
She got up from the grass. Not because this random girl told her to, no, but because she wanted to. Rosie brushed herself off and rolled out her ankles. "How long have you been... Uh, standing there? Do you have fun watching people dance at the lake?" Rosie asked, still smiling. She didn't know who this girl was, but maybe she was more than some condescending advice.

There was a bird that held a special place in Talia's heart. She named it Blue. That was, of course, because it was red. What else would she name it? So, the girl brought a packet of seeds down every few days for the cute creature to have a feast.
Letting her small fingers out for the tiny bird to jump on to, she stroked it gently, quietly singing a song her mother had taught her when she was little. she smiled as she saw a girl dancing. It was good dancing. Talia had a hard time dancing, as much as she tried. Oh, well, she'd get there eventually. Blue hopped on and Talia decided to go talk to the girl, who seemed to give off a bubbly feeling.
It wasn't too often Talia felt encouraged to instigate a conversation.
Walking over slowly to keep Blue comfortable, she approached quietly.
"I saw your dancing, it was quite amazing. Mind if I join you?" she said. It sounded better when she rehearsed it in her head. Out loud she seemed to sound downright awkward. She just laughed at herself, hoping she didn't seem like too much of a weirdo. That could be off-putting.
"Sorry, I'm Talia," she smiled hopefully.

After turning away her focus on the condescending mask girl, Rosie's eyes fell on someone familiar. Well, not that familiar. But she had seen the girl in her house commons room once or twice. Did-- Did she have a bird? Did a bird just fly away from her? She blinked a few times at the girl while she spoke to her. This girl reminded her of a Disney princess. Which in all honesty, was a very good thing.
Bidding a nervous smile as a goodbye to the strange girl, Rosie walked over to Thalia. Her feet were soaking now from the amount of dancing she had been doing near the water. And now her legs were a bit wet too. Again, Rosie was going to shower later, so she wasn't all that upset about it. She finally approached Thalia and tilted her head, suddenly getting excited when she asked if she could join her. "Join me? Do you dance too?" She asked excitedly, grinning. Rosie could never find someone else who did ballad. It didn't seem like any of her friends did it, but Rosie never really asked them if they did dance. But when she babbled about it, she didn't get much of a reaction that signaled that they related.
She realized she hadn't even introduced herself, and internally bonked herself in the head. She had been doing that lately, not remembering to actually introduce herself when engaging in conversations with new people. Rosie had been so used to talking to her friends, who she obviously didn't need to introduce herself too, that she had completely forgotten about that vital part. With a small gasp, Rosie stuck out her hand. "Hi, by the way! I've seen you around but I've never properly introduced myself. Some prefect I am, right?" She joked, laughing. "I'm Rosie, it's nice to meet you finally."

Dance Like Nobody's Watching!

Ellara hummed a soft tune to herself, her bright blue eyes flitting around to the various scenery the quaint little area next to the Great Lake had to offer. The wind blew in a gentle, but not overall freezing breeze and the trees swayed in uncoordinated melody. Though she'd only been at Hogwarts for a short period of time, the First Year Hufflepuff found simple, mundane things about the magical world she'd learned to call her home a slight comfort, in relation to the spells, magical creatures, potions, and the likes.
Trees, the lake, and the overall nature around here would always be around, no matter if she was sitting in her bedroom back in Manchester... or walking along next to a lake rumored to be inhabited with mermaids! Then again, the thought of seeing a mermaid seemed pretty cool, even if they were rumored to be a little meaner... and scarier... and with more teeth, than usual fairy tales say.
Glancing up from the foresty pathway, Ellara spotted a young girl sitting down in the grass, while another nearby talked down to her. The sight brought a frown tugging at the edge of her lips. Shouldn't the girl be offering to help her up? Deciding to go over and investigate, the young witch shifted her course and approached the scene, happy to see that another, much friendlier-seeming person, seemed to be conversing with the girl who, after falling down, had managed to pull herself up. They seemed nice enough, and this was the perfect opportunity to make some new friends!
She overheard a few snippets of their conversation. Dancing? She'd never tried that before. Apparently, the girl's name was Rosie... Of course! Ell knew she looked a bit familiar from her first night of the Sorting Ceremony. Rosie had been one of the prefects who'd introduced them to the dorm room. Deciding there was no harm in at least saying hi, she approached the small group and piped up, "I've never really danced before, but would it be alright if I joined you? I'm Ellara, one of the Hufflepuff First Years. I'm pretty sure you helped show me around the Common Room at some point." While her first two sentences were regarded towards the entire group, she turned to Rosie when reminding her of their limited shared history.
