Trial and Many Errors
Brutus was beside himself with excitement. He had been awaiting the day he would walk into Ollivander's for years at this point. And here he was! About to get his wand!

But now that he was here, a bit of nervousness clawed its way up inside him. Dan and Brutus' parents had told him that the wand chooses its own wizard.
So what if no wand wanted him? What would happen then?

He took a deep breath, and walked into Ollivander's.
What he saw inside was... not what he expected. A father had tulips growing out of his head, with a highly embarrassed son being the clear culprit.
An old man was putting a wand back in a case, and with a flick of his own, reversed whatever had happened.

"Another! Yes yes, just a moment, let me get young Felix here squared away!"

With another wand, the Tulip Conjurer was accepted. The father paid for the wand, and they were off.

"Ah, now my boy, welcome welcome."

He looked down and saw Brutus' bare feet.

"Mm, either a Palmer or a McCoire, eh?"

Brutus managed a sheepish smile.

"Eh... Aye. Brutus Palmer. Me cousin Dan came in here about 7 years ago."

"Ah yes. Dan Palmer. Ah. Hornbeam and Dragon Heartstring, I believe?"

Brutus was shocked. How could such an old man remember a single wand from a single customer from 7 years ago just like that?!

"Well, let us find the right wand for you, young Brutus."

He went to a shelf, and after looking them over for a bit, brought out a box.

"This one, I think. 23 centimeters, Aspen wood and Dragon Heartstring."

He handed it to Brutus, who gave it a flick. Upon so doing, Mr Ollivander's desk started rapidly growing roots, digging into the floor.

The old man quickly reversed what Brutus had done, as Brutus gingerly put the wand back in the box. This... was clearly not the one.
Ollivander assured him this was normal, and that he had seen much worse. He replaced the box, and brought out another.

"This one, perhaps? 25.8 centimeters, Beech wood and Phoenix Feather."

Brutus tried again. Though he made sure not to point at Ollivander's desk this time.
Turned out, it didn't matter where he pointed, as when he flicked it, a waiting chair suddenly decided to come to life and charge at him.
Thankfully, Brutus was plenty strong enough, and stopped it dead in its tracks with one bare foot.

Ollivander quickly dispelled whatever curse of sentience Brutus had inadvertently made, and Brutus returned the wand.

"Worry not my lad, all witches and wizards have a wand that suits them. If you have demonstrated possession of magic, there is a wand for you."

Ollivander put the wand box back, and actually took one that was right beside it.

"You seem like a strong and energetic lad. I daresay this wand would suit you well! 28.4 centimeters, Chestnut wood and Troll tail hair."

Brutus waved this wand, as flicking was clearly not working. A raincloud them formed and let loose a downpour upon the shop, and a stray lightning bolt struck the floor.

"Ehhmm... Clearly the wand thinks otherwise..."

Ollivander replaced it and dispelled the raincloud.

"Quite the difficult customer! Don't worry. Ive not failed a customer yet, and I dont intend you to be the first!"

He brought out yet another wand box from a top shelf.

"Perhaps this one? 25.2 centimeters, Hornbeam wood and Snallygaster Heartstring."

Brutus was rather afraid to try another one, but try it he did. He squeezed his eyes shut and flicked his wand.
The sound of the desk splintering in an explosion almost gave him a heart attack.

Ollivander merely sighed. With a wave of his wand, his desk repaired itself without a single splinter out of place.
Without a word, he took the wand box back, and replaced it. He then went into the back room, and came back out with an ornate wand box.

"This one, surely. 22.8 centimeters, Ebony wood, and Phoenix Feather."

Brutus braced himself to destroy the entire shop. He flicked the wand, and sparks flew. Wind rushed through his fiery red hair, and Ollivander grinned.

"Ah ha! There, you see? That one is perfect for you!"

Brutus found himself bouncing from foot to foot as he paid Ollivander for the wand. He couldn't WAIT to show his parents outside!
