No Pain
Sometimes you had to be simple and buy the simple things. In this case, Elmo was simply going to buy a pet but not one of the expensive and floofy pets, no. Rather, he was going to buy a common rat. To try and blend in with the weirdos that he had to teach.
Why they got cheap pets? Who knew! Certainly not Elmo, especially not when his lineage basically just fed him from a silver spoon all his life. He stared through the glass enclosures they were trapped in and tapped on the glasses, staring a spider dead in the eye. Those damned things needed to run amock, not to be trapped in a hellscape that profited off of selling caught and trapped animals.
Elmo was at least happy to contribute some little galleons he could spare for the pet ring that was totally legal. But something else caught his eyes. A sweet little goldfish swimming back and forth in their tank? How adorable. He was going to get some decoration for its tank if he bought it.
But which one would he want more? The common rat or the goldfish? The goldfish seemed to be the best option as it was easily disposable if it happened to die. Oops. He'd just need to buy another one. And looking at the price of it, Elmo felt that he could easily buy an infinite amount and still have money left over. It was just that cheap!
He gave a sympathetic gaze back to the common rat and then turned his attention towards the Goldfish.
He grabbed a round glass tank with an open top and some fishtank decor. Fishtank decor being of the pellets that were pink and blue and black, then also a fake skull. As creative as he was going to go, he did not want to overcrowd the fishtank and make it so that the fish only swims in one teeny tiny area.
That was pretty much it. Then a container of fish food that he could just sprinkle into the water. That simple, that easy. He went up to the register and told the shopkeeper that he wanted a Golden Veiltail, a simple request which was instantly followed up as he was handed a clear plastic bag filled with water and with a Golden Veiltail with a twist tie keeping the bag bound together.
He knew what he was going to name it. He walked out of the store without thanking the shopkeeper and walked towards Leaky Cauldron just to grab a drink.

You've gotta break some eggs to make an omlette, something something.
