A Sudden Change of Pace

Moving back to New Zealand had its ups and downs. It was good to be back in a familiar place—the most that did change in the last five years she'd been away was a few shops closing and new ones opening in their stead, and new roads.
Tutoring was a good transition job out of full-time teaching and while wedding planning took all her time. But with how little time tutoring demanded, she spent most of her days at home like this, on the couch, reading a book she took from the local library. Despite being five-o-clock, the sky was still a beautiful bright blue and a comforting heat settled in the air. Daylight savings things.
The door opened. Sereia looked down at her page number, then closed it and got up. She hummed as she watched Eric drop his bag on a chair and turn to meet her.
He smiled, and leaned in. They kissed briefly. Then, Sereia opened his bag to get his lunch bag as he spoke, "Hey."
"Mm, hello. How was work?" She asked.
Eric had already walked away to put his coat on the back of their bedroom door. "Nothing much." Before he could disappear into the hallway, he speed walked back and took out an L-shaped folder. "Oh, hey, I think you should read this, though."
Sereia put down the empty containers. Without taking the paper out of the folder, she read the headline. Hogwarts? It had been a while since she heard about it. She wasn't in constant correspondence with anyone there, even Lesmana, after leaving the school. But the news had finally reached her.
She raised an eyebrow. "When did you get a copy of the Daily Prophet? I thought they only sold papers in the UK."
Eric made no comment. Instead, "Look who's on the front page."
So Sereia did. The news was... Sereia could only raise an eyebrow. All four Heads of House had stepped down, including the Deputy Headmistress. The only person left in Hogwarts' upper administration was Headmaster Lear. So that meant—
"Lesmana stepped down from Head of Slytherin at Hogwarts?" The news wasn't hitting her yet. Lesmana initially getting Head of Slytherin had been a crazy announcement, but Sereia had supported the notion nonetheless. Now he was stepping down. Sereia looked up at Eric, who had put his jacket and come back in time for questions. "Have you talked to him yet?" @Lesmana Asmaralaya
Eric shook his head. "Not yet. I didn't even know he was going to. They only put out recruitment advertisements to replace two of the Heads, not all of them."
Did they now, she thought to herself. So many things had happened since she left. When she left the school, the Head of Slytherin at the time had stepped down, hence Lesmana's promotion. It had only been a few months since then. Sereia continued reading the paper, though she lost focus half-way through and opted to put it down. She had read enough. "I wonder what happened..."
They stood at opposite ends of the kitchen island for a few minutes before Eric pulled up his sleeves and walked to the other side. "I'm making the pork belly for dinner. Do you want to shower first?"
Sereia took the folder and his bag, and carried it to the living room. "I'll write to Lesmana first."
