CASUAL | HOGWARTS
Kiki is a short, below-average looking child, shorter than their peers at 136cm, weighing 52kg at 11 (and a half) years old. They've had the same haircut all their young life; a bobcut with unflattering straight bangs, but that changed the second they got out of their parent's home, and now they sport two long ponytails with curls that part at the side of their face. Their eyes are almost the colour of prunes, as grandma has lovingly said (much to Kiki's own hidden displeasure), a dark brownish-black, and their skin has a sort of off-colour pallor from healthy brown due to a significant lack of sunlight from unhealthy habits of staying indoors and general London weather.
They dress androgynous and despise wearing skirts and dresses. { This is their first sign of being more 'rebellious' in small ways against gender conformity, but it's a very immature and childish approach, as she becomes more comfortable with skirts again later. } They're not the most athletic child, instead taking an avid interest in their father's passion, and thus has been teased for being "chubby"—a major insecurity she tries not to be obvious about.
Brief Story:
Kiki lives with her small, close family of five—two parents, two grandparents, and herself. She's a half-blood wizard used to the country and living on the move, always unrooted in her childhood, and therefore flexible and detached. She always seemed laid back, and therefore like her parents, Hufflepuff both, so nobody expects her to be anything but herself and for her house to also be Hufflepuff. You can imagine their surprise in her first letter she sends back home when she mentions the Eagles.
Her Hogwarts letter arrived when she was halfway through her eleventh year, and she, as always, arrived late and almost missed the train. When she got there, she realised Hogwarts was much more difficult than she expected, and that she can no longer relax in her bubble of comfort back home... The only question is, can she rise to the challenge and possibly embrace the more intellectual side her house is known for, or will she break?
Mental Description:
Kiki is an introverted, quiet type who is considered lazy and boring by their peers and teachers, but a curious and intelligent creative by close family. They have a strangely steady mental fortitude for an 11 year old, due to their family's encouragement and presence in their life, but they get nervous and insecure like anyone else when outside of their comfort zone (which is honestly anywhere that isn't home or their dormitory)—having the guts and emotional intellect to question the status quo, but also being stuck in their own insecurities at their worst moments. They have not yet discovered themselves and will still be female upon introduction { and go by she/her }, but slowly figure out their more fluid expression as time goes on and they are exposed to other people.
Ancestry and Connections
Kiki's parents are both wizards, with her mother Manaia who gave up her Auror dreams and became a semi-famous author in the Australiasian wizarding region for her instructional and cultural books, and her father Roland being an understudy artist who illustrates his wife's works. The whole unit lives with her father's non-magical family in the wizarding world of London. One half of their ethnicity is Australian/New-Zealand (mother), but Kiki grew up only in London, travelling around due to financial issues early on. Kiki's father took his wife's maiden name, Ngāoreore (translation: tropical rainforest)—his previous family name is Adderley.
Unfortunately, Kiki never really made any strong friendships before Hogwarts, but seemed to prefer it that way. They spent time with their Muggle grandparents who taught Kiki everything when their parents were too absorbed in their work, just to keep the family afloat, which can make Kiki seem out of place sometimes—they talk a bit like an old fashioned grandparent, although they have none of the wisdom to back it up. They also have minimal, second-hand knowledge of muggle technology from their grandparents. It's all very outdated and old, since even before being cut off from the muggle world, they were quite off-grid.
First Instance of Magic:
Kiki first discovered magic at the same time she had her first magical accident. On the night of her seventh birthday, at exactly midnight, she awoke with a terrible craving for sweets. So, she snuck downstairs and searched high and low until she found the cookie jar, at the top of the shelf, out of reach. She climbed onto one of the kitchen benches, and tried to balance on her tiptoes at the edge to grab the jar, but slipped and fell. They would have hit their head, but instead found themselves afloat centimetres above the ground... The cookie jar was not so lucky, and the smashing alerted Kiki's mother who was quiet sleep deprived already and almost made her faint at the sight of her daughter spinning around the ceiling fan, giggling up a storm.
