So what now?
It had been several months since graduation, and once again Aly Salinger was feeling the person-shaped hole in her chest she had gotten when her captain, mentor, and friend @Cecily Quinn graduated in the spring of 2024. This time, it was another blonde diva of which she keenly felt the lack: @Koko Riddle, her friend, former boss, snowball sensation, and an excellent kissing partner, if Aly did say so herself.

Koko had abandoned her graduated and gone on to join the Cork Quidditch team in Ireland, despite being English. Aly supposed that if there were to be any reason for her friend to leave, a real job opportunity playing professional Quidditch was... an acceptable one. Still, for the first few weeks of her seventh year she just couldn't shake the feeling that Koko was just around every corner - that she'd open the door to the Headliner office and there she would be, a familiar blonde bob at the secretary's desk. But no; Koko was well and truly gone... at least until Aly remembered that owl post existed.

In the Owlery, she tied her carefully penned letter to the leg of a Hogwarts messenger owl, along with a small package containing the most recent edition of the Headliner (a girl's gotta read, after all) and several individually packaged protein-infused Cauldron Cakes. Though she wasn't even sure that Koko would be thinking about her in return - she was still a student, after all, and Koko was off being a real adult now and probably had new friends and new people to kiss - she figured that at least she would send the owl. If the Ravenclaw got ghosted, so be it. She'd given it her best try. (Wow, she had certainly grown in the last six years - that much was for sure.)

Dear Koko,

I know it might be a bit of a surprise to get this letter, and perhaps you're too big and old and fancy now for us mere Hogwarts students, but I've been thinking a lot about you lately and figured I'd send a little something. You'll need to keep your energy levels up now that you're a professional Quidditch player (oh ho ho)! Don't forget about those of us you left behind on the pitch here (though thank you for doing it - maybe Ravenclaw will actually have a chance now with you gone).

I want to hear ALL about your new big girl job. What's it like being on an actual team? Have you done any fun drills in rehearsal you want to tell me about so I can put my team through them? How big is the Cork stadium? If you have a match the second week of November, that's exeat weekend - I'd love to come watch you play if you have an extra ticket you might be able to send me! (Jokes - I'll buy one if necessary. But seriously, though, a free one would be lovely if you're willing and able to share.)

Hogwarts isn't that much different with you gone, I suppose, since we didn't really have any classes together, but the Headliner certainly is. Did you know that they put in two first-years to replace you and Ruby? It's been great pretending certain things - we get catering from the Three Broomsticks for print night now since we told them it's a tradition and they just believed us - but let me tell you, they do not get along. Constantly at each other's throats, bickering and spellcasting and all that nonsense. I'm pretty sure Ruby's replacement doesn't know the difference between a comma and an apostrophe, and your replacement has a wand up her - well, anyway, the point is that we really miss the both of you. And, of course, I miss you in particular. It's really not the same without you, at least in the office.

Really hope you're well.
All my love,
Aly

Routine, something Koko had once thrived under, had slowly shifted into the bane of her existence. The shiny newness of Cork had faded once training and games had taken up the majority of her free time, and the sense of accomplishment that had initially accompanied her new job faded into ill-fated disgust and annoyance with each game that passed. She had gotten very used to learning new ways of sitting. The duchess slant, the backwards lean, the 'recline and take up the entire bench to be a jerk' – they'd all become just another part of her repertoire. The most productive thing she had managed to do was find a makeup look that glittered just a wonderfully from the bench as it did the air.

Despite that singular success, whenever Koko arrived at Cork's Quidditch stadium, the pleasant exterior she'd so carefully cultivated at Hogwarts devolved into what her little brother called 'resting bitch face', and as much as she hated herself for it, she could not shake the red-lipped scowl that remained on her face until she left. Even while training in the air, while knocking Quaffles away from the goals just as she had in school, immense boredom left her lazily considering just letting herself fall – with the medics, she'd be fine, and the taste of the tenable thrill was nearly as delectable as a sticky caramel. Only vanity and a lingering desire to succeed in her role kept her soundly on her Oakshaft or on the boredom-inducing bench.

However, at the end of September, the unexpected occurrence of an owl's arrival brought a much-desired light to her life. When her thumb brushed against the name on the parchment, a genuine smile crossed her lips, and she closed her eyes for a moment, the fond memory of her friend and colleague of sorts coming to mind. It took most of Koko's self-restraint not to read the letter's contents at the stadium; she waited until she was at home, away from prying eyes, before opening the letter and deftly devouring the words inside. Aly's voice practically wove itself into each familiarly-crafted letter, and as Koko adjusted her position curled against a pillow, she blinked back the unwelcome burn of tears in her eyes. They did not fall, and the goofy grin she had on her lips proved that even if they had, she wouldn't have truly minded.

The next morning, instead of forcing herself on a routine run, she sharpened a quill and began to write.

Dear Aly,

First, let me emphasise what a joy it was to receive your letter! I've missed you, and the sudden, unexpected (but much appreciated) correspondence was a bright part of an otherwise dreary week – and no, that's not just referring to the weather.

Admittedly, it's not exactly what I expected. Working with people with bigger names than mine was certainly something to get used to! Our practices are more often than I held them for Slytherin back at school, and longer, too. I suppose that's adulting for you – all work, even when it's play. The stadium is quite large and well-outfitted! Quite luxurious. I'm much more inclined to rest one of my brooms in our locker rooms here than anywhere back at school. I suppose I've enjoyed practising high-speed blocks; I'm not quite as quick as I'd like to be, but there's always room for improvement!

I will have to get back to you regarding free tickets. I've been told I can be persuasive when I need to be, and I'll see if I can speak to the right people. Anything for a friend, of course.

I can't believe they put in first years for the Editor-in-Chief and Secretary. Really, who on earth is making these decisions!? You're right there – clearly the superior option. I think Ruby would do something rather heinous if she heard about the inadequacy of her replacement! As for mine, well, she'd best not give you a hard time, even if she lacks the respect a firstie ought to have for her elders. Perhaps you can tell both of them that fighting occurring in the office triggers an ancient curse that locks them in a closet together. That might solve the issue!

Jokes aside, though, I miss some things about school. The reputation. The community. The friends – yes, yes, you in particular, I promise. It's been lonely without sharing activities with friends. It's not like I can just go to work and smile at someone from across the pitch, or trade jokes, which we could do, so it's really weird and not too enjoyable. And I never thought I would miss the Headliner just as much as I do, but I do! Funny how that happens. I didn't realise what a big part of my life everyone was until there were people-shaped holes where they shouldn't be.

I hope your seventh year is going as well as possible. I know you'll be breezing through your classes; you were always quite a bit more studious than I was. Let me know how things are going – I'd love to hear updates on your life, the big and the small! Are you winning Quidditch? Is Darcy still giant and fluffy? Is the Headliner, despite poor choices in leadership, still running smoothly with you to keep everyone in check?

Please write back! And I'll double-check about those tickets. Just you wait!

XOXO
Koko

Do you lie and say you don't wanna see me again?
In the insane lead-up to the fall ball, Aly found herself skipping breakfast and forgetting to go to the Owlery. There was no particular reason behind it other than that she was so incredibly busy - there was the Slytherin v. Ravenclaw match coming up in a few weeks, and her Headliner articles were due soon, not to mention her actual homework for classes that seemed to only be getting harder by the day, like Transfiguration and Potions and Defence Against the Dark Arts. Though Koko was still on her mind, at least a little, Aly barely remembered that she had sent her a letter until the morning after the ball, when finally everything had settled down. Mostly.

The letter arrived at breakfast, which a very hungry Aly finally attended, her mind still whirling from the events of the night before; she half-expected to receive a Howler from her grandmother about abandoning Barnabas, but instead a politely penned letter with her name curled in maroon ink on the envelope landed right next to her bowl of porridge. (It nearly landed in it, but luckily the owl swerved at the last moment to avoid colliding with another post creature above, and the corner of the envelope just barely bounced off the lip of the bowl.) Upon tearing it open, Aly's eyes landed on the signature in its familiar handwriting - XOXO Koko. A grin spread across her face in an instant, her heart thumping excitedly in her chest. Not only did her friend miss her in return, she was sending hugs and kisses - certainly there were good memories to be had there.

She could hardly wait to send a reply, as she did so and wrote it immediately after breakfast, as soon as she got back up to her dormitory in Ravenclaw Tower. Headliner articles could wait. Reading and replying to Koko's sure-to-be-intriguing tales of what it was like to be a real, live Quidditch player was certainly and obviously much more important.

Dear Koko,

Trust me, your letter brightens up a day just as well! It was much-needed this morning, especially, after the insanity that was the Fall Ball last night. There was a lot involved - ghost pirates, broken ships, running away from my date and ripping up my dress - well, I'm sure you'll be able to read about it in all of those pureblood gossip magazines sometime soon. Let's just say that it was an intriguing night, but also an exhausting one, and I'm sort of waiting for the other shoe to drop considering I sort of disobeyed everything my grandmother set up for me for the night. But I digress. Point is that I was so excited to see you write back!

I know that working with famous players must be terrifying, but if anyone can get good at being equally scary quite quickly, it is you, Ko. At least now you don't have to worry about balancing schoolwork at the same time as practices - I think if I have to sneak finishing one more Charms essay while we're trying to run drills at rehearsal, I might keel over from exhaustion. It's so nice to hear that the stadium is big, though! I imagine it's just full of rich blokes donating money to keep everything polished and shiny, and I'm sure your broom is appreciating the luxury residence now. And don't talk to me about being fast. You were always so speedy on the field now; I'm sure they're nothing short of impressed by your talent, just like we all were here.

Hopefully you make some more friends there soon, though. It was always so fun being able to joke with you this last year at school, even when we were playing each other or refereeing each other's matches. What about that one locker room attendant bloke? I think I read an article on him in Seeker Weekly - something about being the distant relative of some famous Seeker from ages ago. I'm pretty sure it was Cork that he was working for, and at least in his interview he seemed fairly down-to-earth. There are probably so many people working for your team... I'm sure you'll be able to find someone somewhere. And if not, you can sneak me into the matches in a handbag with an Undetectable Extension Charm on it; ticket or no, I'm determined to get in to see you play sometime!

As for the Headliner... I mean, you're right. It's most definitely my fault for not going out for the position when they held interviews. I suppose I figured seventh year would be just so exhausting already, what with the Quidditch captaincy and studying for N.E.W.T.s and finding time to write my articles and trying to figure out what I want to do when I graduate... and I'm not wrong. It's certainly very tiring. I feel like I've just so little time for myself nowadays, but at the same time, if the faculty asked me if I wanted to step into one of the roles just to get the firsties to stop fighting, I wouldn't say no. But I'd also love just an hour of firewhisky on the office floor with you again. I haven't even had time to stargaze at all this semester! Merlin, the travesty.

Other than busy, though, seventh year is... well, it is indeed going! Our first match isn't for two weeks yet, and it's against Slytherin, like normal. Since you've graduated, you have to root for me now instead of them - it's just plain friend law. Rehearsals are going well, though, and I'm only about two-thirds as sore as I was last year. The Headliner isn't going badly, though we could certainly use some smoothing over in the leadership department - oh, and we're planning some big things for the spring already, so I can't wait to send you those editions once they come out! I'm going to write about autumn date spots and toasted pumpkin seeds for the October edition; I've attached a first draft of the date places article to this letter, though don't tell either of the 'bosses' I've done so. Wouldn't want to get in trouble with someone nigh on five or six years my younger.

One thing, though - I can't believe you don't remember Dauncey's name! When I read your letter for the first time at the breakfast table this morning, I was so confused, because my grandmother - the very same one who sent me a perfectly awful designer dress and an assigned Beauxbatons date who wanted nothing to do with me for the ball last night - is named Darcy. For a moment, I was just imagining her as a cat, all giant and fluffy, and it was honestly the best laugh I've had in ages. But yes, Dauncey is as big and lazy as ever. Dee's rat keeps sitting on his head, and by now he can't even be bothered to try to swat it off. He's still prone to napping in the bottom drawer of my desk in the Headliner office. Nothing ever changes in his world.

Things certainly change in mine, though. You're over here writing about a hole we left, but you're the one who graduated! I'm sure I'm not the only one who misses you terribly (though I might be close to the top of the list). Maybe if you have a weekend off soon you could come swing by Hogsmeade and I can walk out to the Three Broomsticks to meet you for a Butterbeer. My treat!

Miss you more each day. Looking forward to your next letter!
All my love,
Aly

The second week of October marked the first game of the season against Cork's rival, Lancashire, and by Merlin's most straggly, disgusting beard, training certainly made that known. Koko all but collapsed into bed every night leading up to the game, waking up with a now-familiar soreness in her back, arms and core. It both amazed and horrified her that training as a second string could leave her this wrung-out, compared to training as a captain for Slytherin. It was a different type of training than she'd been used to, at any rate – far more focus on speeding dives, for example, and on cheating moves (with the best part being avoiding detection). Spiralling towards an opponent, elbows out, a smirk on her face, Koko had finally felt the elation that had drawn her to the sport as a career.

But once she was on the ground it had faded again. She found herself thankful for the extreme business leading up to the game, since she had no time to ruminate before having a quick bite to eat and getting ready for bed.

She received Aly's response to her letter on the evening of the 9th, once she'd stumbled out of the first game she'd actually gotten to have an important role in. Although perhaps a bit more battered than she would have liked, it had gone well, and ending her day with the letter was, of course, a highlight of her evening. It took an exorbitant amount of self-control not to open the letter, not to whip out a quill and begin a response immediately; instead, she slept like a rock after the game. Nonetheless, once she woke on Friday, she readied herself a cup of tea, her favourite burgundy ink and a quill, and she sat at her vanity, poring over the letter. As she read, she would have sworn it to be impossible for her eyebrows to lift higher, but they kept creeping up with every strange occurrence Aly recounted. She'd almost forgotten about the insanity of every Hogwarts ball, and a small pit of disappointment formed within her stomach when Aly didn't give her all the juicy details. She would have to bring out her old reporting habits and do some proper sleuthing, it appeared.

Eventually, sipping the tea between smiles proved to be too difficult an endeavour, so Koko abandoned the steaming earl grey in favour of focusing. She didn't need the warmth, anyway; Aly's words regarding Quidditch quelled her still-lingering unease with regard to the sport. Even as the horrible thing that was apparently called FOMO (according to a Muggle billboard in Cork's shopping district) started to settle within her, she couldn't keep from smiling, especially not as she transitioned to reading Aly's article. She'd missed journalistic pursuits, and journalistic pursuits with a side of friendship just happened to be even better.

The flush that came over Koko's cheeks as she realised she'd misnamed Aly's cat had her completely uncertain what to do with herself. She squinted at the paper. She'd... she'd written Dauncey. Right? Certainly she wasn't that awful at spelling; it could be difficult at times, given that letters didn't always go where she imagined they would, but Dauncey wasn't even that difficult of a name! As she kept reading, though, she couldn't help but snicker. A giant, fluffy grandmother was certainly an image.

Still smiling to herself, Koko unscrewed the cap on her inkwell, adjusted a knob on her radio and got to writing.

Dear Aly,

Your letter made me realise that I have not made enough time for gossip and intrigue recently! I'm half of the mind to ask you for all the juicy details. I've never heard of a dull time at a Hogwarts ball. And, what with you... ripping your dress? running away from your date? Well, I can imagine it was certainly a time to be had. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for an article reporting on it, although the budding fashionista in me must ask: what happened with the dress? Surely, you managed to let the show go on? I'm sure you were stunning either way.

Nonetheless, drama with your family sounds dreadful. I'm glad to hear my letter was a light in that darkness! I do hope that it improves, though; it's never fun when pure-blood politics get you down. Or exhaustion. A bit of invigoration draught should get you fixed up in a flash! I'm sure you're getting straight Os alongside the job of captaincy, though – and, yes, it is easier not having to worry about that! But the training is a bit harder.

We had our first game against Lancashire recently – last night, in fact. They're our biggest rival. It was... well, we won, but barely, and it was a long game. I finally got off the bench and, well, managed to shoulder a beater off his broom. Such fun! Everything hurts, but that's how it is sometimes, no? Either way, thanks for your kind words; they've certainly been a huge help.

The young bloke in the locker rooms – Sean something? He's fine. We haven't really talked too much, not yet at least, but he does seem rather sweet. As do most people, honestly; it's just so difficult to actually break the ice. Maybe if I get to know the referees better, they'll make calls in my favour... joking! Unless...

At any rate... I can't let it be on the record that I'd root for Ravenclaw! I'm sure Percival would find out and find a way to whack a bludger at me even across the bloody Irish Sea! But I'm sure you'll crush it. The snitch oughtn't give you any issues this time. Knock on wood, just in case, but still.

I read through your article, and it's lovely! It almost makes me want to ask someone out just to have a bonfire date. The aesthetic would be so lovely, and the smell. I've gone too long without actual outside time. But forging new friendships comes first, I think. We'll get there eventually.

Also – I'm going to be so honest with you, I'd thought I'd spelled his name right! It's a crazy coincidence, though, that I misspelled it to resemble that of your grandmother. I've no idea what she looks like, not off the top of my head, but if she's big and fluffy, then call me a right genius! I'm glad Dauncey is doing well, but your grandmother... she sounds like she really ought to learn what's actually trending. I'm not sure what designer she sent you, but I am sure it was totally passé. And, a date running from you? Clearly, your grandmother is shopping in a narrow, dimly-lit alleyway, because there are plenty of fish in the sea that would swim towards you as if you were... well, whatever fish like. You know what I mean.

You know, now that you mention it, I do miss the treats in the village. I'd gladly take you up on a butterbeer... provided you come see me over an exeat weekend or the winter holidays. There are some shops I'd love to show you, and I think you'd swoon at our stadium.

Well, you'll have to let me know how the game against Slytherin goes once it's over! And, as always, I'd love to hear all the juicy details of Hogwarts's – and your – latest happenings!

XOXO
Koko

Both of us like to pretend...
Aly Salinger was... well, not the most prompt of repliers. October found itself delving into a very busy string of Headliner proofreadings and Quidditch matches and meeting new classmates that weren't new at all and of course watching the Ravenclaw versus Slytherin broom race, and suddenly Aly blinked and it was already November. Of course, she'd received Koko's letter just days before what could have been called one of Hogwarts' biggest rivalry matches as of late - her own eagles taking on her friend's snakes, a battle of wits and Quaffles on the pitch. Those last two weeks of the mid-fall month, especially, had been nothing short of atrociously busy for the Ravenclaw seventh-year, so at least she had an excuse for not having replied to her graduated mate for more than fourteen days.

Still, by the time she could get out a quill and parchment, Aly already felt bad enough that all the things Koko had asked about in her last letter were already weeks past and probably old news. If she knew the former Secretary of the school paper even one whit, Koko had probably already learned all about the ball and the result of the Quidditch match and everything. As such, Aly resolved to fill her next letter with new things, rather than rehashing the old and overdone.

Dearest Koko,

First of all, please accept my absolutely most sincerest EVER apologies for this coming so late. As I'm sure you remember from last year, seventh year at Hogwarts is nothing to joke about! I've been so caught up in studying and Quidditch rehearsals and the like that I absolutely missed your letter. Well, missed might be a strong word. I think Dauncey might have stolen it to sleep upon. He'll do that to my Headliner articles sometimes, too. At least this time he didn't eat the parchment! Between Haven's Pygmy Puff Marcus and this silly bloke of a cat, it's a wonder I ever have parchment that I can actually read.

Because this is so late, I'm sure you've already heard about all the goings-ons I should have updated you on in that last letter. I won't even mention the Slytherin versus Ravenclaw game from a few weeks back - as if the results weren't wild enough already, I'm sure we are BOTH talked out on that particular subject! Wait, does the professional league even care about the Hogwarts House matches anymore? Or are you the only one on your team still tuned in to the Quidditch Cup here at school?

Some news you've definitely heard, though, is that all of the Heads of House are leaving. To say that it was a shock was... a bit of an understatement, and they announced it RIGHT after Quidditch, too, so it sort of overshadowed that a bit. The Headliner in particular is all abuzz about it, as I'm sure you expected. It's rare that we get actual news around here - well, other than various injuries at balls, but those happen so commonly these days that (and I hate to say it) it doesn't even feel like news anymore, even though it most definitely should. Anyway, back to the Heads of House. I can't say I knew all of them the way I did my Head, also Marcus - no relation to Haven's Pygmy Puff - but I have a feeling every student and alumnus was equally shocked and saddened by the news. I'll keep you updated about anything I hear here; I doubt you've heard anything about why it happened? They fed us some bullshit answer about new leadership and beginnings and the like, but you know how it is when there's something to hide. I'm not the only one that thinks so, either. I've read the Prophet articles. I'm sure you have, too. Hopefully all of the former Heads find lovely places outside of Hogwarts, though. After dealing with us all for who knows how many years, they certainly deserve a good long holiday!

As for the ball - well, it's long past by now, but let's just say that the dress my family put me in left something to be desired. I swear to Merlin, Koko, I looked more like a wedding cake than a girl! It tore quite unfashionably when it caught on a corner of the desserts table (which you KNOW I simply MUST camp out next to during such an event) and, well, I just felt like it needed a bit of adjustment afterwards. The date left something to be desired, too. Pompous little spoiled brat from Beauxbatons - you know the type. Luckily, I had one Theo Duncain from Ilvermorny come sweep me off my feet to my rescue. He even gave me a lovely red sash to wear for the remainder of the night; I dare say I looked rather like a pirate queen (and saved my grandparents from having to read about that horrible dress in the papers). But I digress. Again, it was over a month ago, and other than some nasty articles about my fashion sense and romantic life, nothing ever really came of it.

I'm glad to hear that you won your first match, though! I think I read about that, too, and was certainly cheering for you from afar. Your season doesn't seem to be going too horribly, if I'm reading these Prophet updates right? Who would have ever thought I'd end up cheering for a team that wasn't the Harpies? Anyway, I've been trying to think of some cheers to yell when I eventually get to come see you, but my rhyming game is not particularly strong. Koko rhymes with No no, and Cork with dork... well, perhaps you can just tell me some of the cheers that your fans have already made up, and I can just have a good go at those. Best of luck, though, seriously. I'm keeping all of my fingers and toes crossed for you.

Speaking of, I would love to come see you over the exeat this weekend, but I'm afraid I have familial duties and all that. My family is taking me to some sort of art auction or the like out in Paris, so I must be on a train home tomorrow evening so we can Floo off to France. I'm just hoping I don't run into Sir Barnabas Vidal (the aforementioned bad date) there. At least there ought to be some lovely art, and if I've heard right from my aunt's letters, the dress they've picked out for me is bound to be much better than that absolute puffskein they had me in for the ball. I'll make sure to acquire a picture to send you! In the meantime, we shall just have to plan for a holiday or a later exeat - or whenever you're free to swing by Scotland.

Missing you. Really. Come see me soon, or I'll be forced to learn Apparition just so I can pop over to Ireland in a blink.
All my love,
Aly

Although still disillusioned by her big-girl job, Koko couldn't help but admit that the soreness caused by exercise at least gave her the determination to get better. There was nothing like a few bruises to keep one going, after all! She had picked up a few hobbies along the way – she had grown quite adept at magical cooking despite having been privileged and pampered throughout her childhood, and now, she had found that she quite enjoyed the art of baking. Her tinkering with potioneering had continued, and although she wouldn't necessarily refer to it as a passion, she had to say that it was something she was good at – perhaps something that came more easily to her than broom sports. That notion was something she feared and loathed, but it did mean she spent a fair bit of her free time out in nature collecting her own ingredients and also some peace of mind.

Suffice to say, while some were battling disdainful feelings this autumn, Koko had nimbly escaped the chokehold of seasonal depression and was actually doing surprisingly well. She'd kept up correspondence with her family and had gotten to play (it was about damn time!) in a few games. She'd been so occupied, in fact, that she had forgotten she had even owled Aly. The owl was a surprise, albeit a welcome one – she had plenty of questions by the time she sat down to reply (which was, admittedly, quite delayed from her receiving of the letter), largely centring around the purported leaving of one @Hjørdis Jensen from the sprawling grounds of Hogwarts. An afterthought was the arrest of @Marcus Iwasaki. It sounded like the world there was turning upside down!

She moved some perfume bottles from her vanity and used the corner as a writing space, her brow furrowed as she began to drag the nib of her quill across parchment.

Dear Aly,

Enclosed are some treats for Dauncey. Jax is quite picky and doesn't like these, and I thought if any cat might like them, it would be Dauncey.

If I'm honest, I'd already forgotten about the Quidditch game! Of course, I'm glad you won... and it's a good thing I wasn't there to see the Slytherin team blunder! But the news really was in one ear and out the other. I must admit, I've been a bit distracted. Flights about the Irish coast have been fun, but what's really been taking up my time is baking and potion-making. I know, not really what I'm known for. Don't worry, I'm still amassing a collection of make-up; there's this lipstick, 'Baneberry', and it's just to die for...

Now, regarding the Heads of House.

I was horrified when I heard the news. First, because Professors Iwasaki and Jensen were just institutions! What do you mean, they're leaving!? All the best to them, and I'm glad I'd graduated by the time they left, but I feel for you and any other seventh years. And Professors Browne and Browne, too? And Asmaralaya? I didn't know those three as well, but honestly, there's really got to be something fishy. I don't think the Daily Prophet is going to be telling us everything... and speaking of the Daily Prophet, what on Earth is going on with Professor Iwasaki!?

I didn't know him very well, but he seemed very responsible, not at all the type to bloody assault someone! I wonder if this is someone who's got a vendetta against him, or perhaps a vendetta against all of Hogwarts's staff. Say, do any of the new Heads of House seem suspicious?

Well, speaking of other articles, although it's been a long time gone, those tabloids detailing everyone's private life are simply horrendous. Of course, when you've been raised with it, you learn how to cope. Nonetheless, it's not a fun lesson, and I'm sorry you had to learn it during what should have been quite the enjoyable time, turning 17 and all!

Now, Quidditch talk. If you ever cheer for the Harpies if I have a game against them, we will have words, my dear friend. But all the same, I appreciate the support! We've had quite the season – plenty of fouls committed, plenty of points gained, but also, as much as it's not what I expected, I think I am getting into the rhythm of things and finding my people. Who knew it would have taken so long! We're ordering new uniforms for the new year, so that's something I'm looking forward to. I hear the fabric's quite luxurious. What lacks luxury, though, is your rhyme game – you're not wrong in that rhyming Koko with 'No, no' is hardly up to par. Try 'Go, go' instead.

I'm sure your trip to France was quite a while ago, but I hope it was lovely! I don't visit Paris often; my family are in the south of France, so we mostly go to Marseille and Toulouse when we go to a larger city. If you can remember any shop recommendations, I would love to hear them! I've been wanting to do some luxury shopping.

As for me, well, I'll be back in England soon enough – on the 27th, in fact! I've been invited to be the guest of honour at the Hestridge family's charity gala, which is such a lovely opportunity. I still haven't decided what to wear, which is a bit of an issue, but since I'm sure they'll have holly, I'd imagine that either red or green would be fine. You'll likely see some photos in the news – I'm so excited.

Anyway, I hope you have a lovely winter holiday! Wishing you all the best, and missing you all the same.

XOXO
Koko
