- Evening of October 2nd, 2025 | History of Magic, Hogwarts -

If one were a betting man, it would surely pay to bet that once a particular twinkle entered in Alphonse's oak-brown eyes and a devious smirk lined his lips, the Gryffindor was bound to start some shit.

Earlier that day, the Toussaint boy managed to remain somewhat alert during classes between the brutal beatings accosted upon his flesh over the last two weeks. Between broom-shenanigans with Prat and Odilon, rescuing a skyfalling Matthew, the horror in the Forbidden Forest with his uncle, Alphonse's muscular frame was absent a bruise, yet the bones beneath ached with each movement. The depth of his silent agony distracted the Haitian teen so great he nearly missed Professor Baird's announcement that the day would be his last at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The raggedy, decrepit man hadn't elaborated much for rhyme or reason of his sudden departure—simply that he'd be off an hour after the final lecture of the day dismissed. In the back of Alphonse's circulating cerebral cortex, only two thoughts gnawed at his attention: first, was Octavius sending away his gremlin of a son to a different school—praise the gods if Professor Baird was; and second, was the gargoyle bound to stay at Hogwarts or did Octavius intend to stow the gargoyle with him?

Circumstance practically forced his curiosity to ponder, but the latter of the two plaguing thoughts did not get asked to avoid arousing suspicion. The seed was planted though—the prospect of uninterrupted dealings with the gargoyle named Asdrúbal a tantalizing one. He had no want or desire to break into the soon to be abandoned History of Magic class; his sights were on Asdrúbal only. And if Alphonse was anything when a curiousity fascinated him so, the boy became like a shark to blood; a single whiff caught in the nose and his mind refused to lose the scent—refused to muse about anything more.

Nudging Raizel during Professor Baird's droning of something something Statute of Secrecy, Alphonse leaned to his cousin by marriage's space and muttered, "You and me—we're coming back here tonight to get Asdrúbal. Bring your people for the job. Someone who won't snitch and can aim a wand."

As daytime turned to evening, the pubescent teen internally prayed that Octavius would leave the gargoyle behind. And if the old cow did, all Alphonse could speculate next was how on earth would he and whatever ragtag team Raizel strung together would manage such a feat of garg-napping rehoming a gargoyle. It would be unlikely, of course, that his barely-baked plan would be seamless success.

Pushing one of the wooden doors to gain access to the History of Magic's corridor, Alphonse halted in his tracks, took a step back and leaned forward from the corner to espy a lonely gargoyle. His brown eyes narrowed strugglingly just slightly without the aid of his glasses, but a gray mass lingered outside the door. It troubled him greatly, knowing that this poor stone creature was bound indoors, to observing the same flesh vehicles walk by, with little to no enrichment.

A cruel fate. It wasn’t likely that this was mere happenstance either. If Professor Makaio's words were true, fate had placed Alphonse and his team on this night—the only opportunity they'd ever get—to perform a noble thievery.

One small rebellion wouldn’t hurt—his intentions were rather pure and wholesome, at the very least; his course of actions....well.

Raizel didn’t like him, not one bit. He was nothing but a pain in the butt. A year long grudge… no, it was longer from what she could remember. One would think she would’ve let it go by now but no. Instead, she will carry it until the day she dies. Unforgivable, truly unforgivable. Made her wonder who even made him the Nurse in the first place, much worse, made him teach students again. History of Magic has never been her favorite no matter how much she tries to love it. Professor Lenox was a good one but still wasn’t enough to make her grow interested in it. When it was Professor Baird who took over the subject, the dream of learning to love it will never come true anymore.

Or so she thought anyway.

The moment he announced that he was stepping down soon… Raizel felt happiness for the first time in forever. An exaggeration perhaps? In any case, that would mean less people to worry about. There’s one problem that remained however, one that surfaced upon the sights of the Guardian that stood before the very doors of the classroom that she had no intention of entering if it wasn’t a requirement. Asdrúbal, a gargoyle that started its job as the protector when Professor Lenox was still around. A gargoyle that she had grown interested in ever since she had laid her eyes on it. It was interesting for her because of how it would serve as a good test of might.

Normally, Asdrúbal would stay as the History of Magic guardian but what if the next professor doesn’t fancy a scary and cool looking Guardian? What would then be its fate? The answer to that came from Alphonse Toussaint, a boy who had recently transferred to Hogwarts although not a total stranger. While not blood related, he was family just as much.

"You and me—we're coming back here tonight to get Asdrúbal. Bring your people for the job. Someone who won't snitch and can aim a wand."

Oh… oh dear… she smells trouble and she can’t help but grin. She was no saint, she was no role model so a heist like this was pretty much welcomed with open arms. In a way, it was exciting, spicing up her usually miserable mood that had been so constant ever since last year. Not to mention, this was perfect. If they could pull this off… then perhaps it could give her some sort of sense of accomplishment. With no hesitation, she answered yes.

Now who to bring, that’s the question. She had grown distant to most of her friends, from Meyra, from Zach… Alyssea was gone… since when did her circle of friends get so small? No, she still had someone: Astra Norrick. She was also her cousin and friend but someone whom she hadn't seen for quite a while now, not since they had accidentally released a bludger in the duelling club. But she was all she had right now and someone who she knew would be up for an adventure like this. And that’s what she did, she asked her, told her where it was taking place and what it was that they needed to do. Whether she shows up or not, that’d be up to her but she had high hopes that she will.

Once that was done, all that’s left was to wait until the time came. She took what she needed, her wand, her satchel with potions in case they needed it. It was sad that she couldn’t test out on how powerful the Erumpent Potion would be indoors. Yes, it was stupid and reckless but eh. It didn’t take her long to reach her destination, her sense of direction seemingly working along with her just fine as she didn’t find herself wandering into the dungeons instead of the first floor. Alphonse was already there, looking so prepared for what probably be the greatest feat they could ever accomplish.
