Yash entered this class knowing a few things too well. First, that either he will brew some great potions or he will blow himself off by the end of the year. Second, a sheer determination to understand the delicate art of potion making so that he doesn't just learn about magic but about the delicate precision and discipline it requires. As Professor Sauber continued his lecture, Yash frantically took notes, making sure he had all the rules and information in his notes. Professor Saubers, started by informing us about the fundamental rules of potion making and then follwed by three potions he taught. First was "Cure for Boils," "Forgetfulness potion" and "Herbicide."
Now came the part the interesting part, brewing the potions. I thought to myself, "
Ok, Yash... Remember few things. One, I have to make a real potion and two, I don't have to blow myself off... Let's get started." He starred by brewing "Cure of Boils". He started by crushing 6 fangs of snake and added 4 measure of it into cauldron. Heated it for 10 seconds at 250. A wand movement and 45 minutes later, he again added 4 horned slugs and took off the heat. He then added 2 porcupine quills and stirred it for 5 times clockwise and completed the potion with the wand movement. It was almost same to the blue colour of Professor Sauber's potion. He pours the potion in a glass phails.
Yash with a bit more confidence on the fact that his potion almost matched Professor Sauber's moved on to the second potion which is "Forgetfulness Potion". He thinks to himself, "
I did the first potion properly... Seems like I am quite good at this stuff.... No!! No!! No!! Yash, focus. Don't get overconfident." His confidence got shattered when he saw the recipe of the Forgetfulness Potion. Taking a deep breath, he started. First, he added 2 drops of Lethe River water and gently heated it for 20 seconds. Yash then added 2 Valerian sprigs and stirred it clockwise 3 times. After the wand movement, he moved on to the part of extreme difficulty, waiting. He waited for nearly an hour. He then crushed 2 measures of standard ingredients along with 4 mistletoe berries and added 2 pinch of this into the potion. After stiring it for 5 times anti-clockwise and doing the wand movement, the potion was finally ready. This potion seemed a little off. It was a bit lighter red then that of Professor Sauber. He poured the red potion into the glass phails.
Yash didn't let this shake off his confidence. He thinks to himself, "
No worries, Yash. Mistake happen. I just need to learn from it. Relax, next on will be better." He moved on to the third and the most complex potion of the day, "Herbicide". The process was long and breathtaking but Yash's confidence didn't shook off. He rolled up his sleeves determined to make it. He started by curshing 4 spines of lionfish along with 2 mesurements of standard ingredients. He then added 3 measures of the crushed powder and waved his wand and waited paitently for nearly an hour. He then added 2 measures of Horklump juice and heated it for 10 seconds followed by 2 blobs of Flobberworm's mucus which he was disguested of. He finally stirred it for 4 times, clockwise and completed the potion with the wand movement. It had a beautiful green colour which was very little darker than Professor Saubers which Yash thought was not a very big deal. He finally poured the last potion into the glass phails.
