Drowning to the thought

The abandoned toilet was silent. Skylar listened to the drip of water from an old, cracked pipe. She sat on the edge of the sink. Her reflection fractured in the mirror. Her sister’s voice replayed in her head with a soft, polite voice, but something sharp, again and again…

“I see you’ve made friends quickly.”

The tone echoed and rosed up.

“But why must it be with Hufflepuffs? Try to find people from your own house, Skylar. It would suit you better.”

Her hand tightened. She smiled, then became upset. Something inside had twisted.

Skylar assumed her sisters already knew about the situation before she came to Hogwarts. She didn’t receive any mail from her parents, but her sister sure does.

It wasn’t the first time they’d spoken to her with that tone, but this time… it stung differently. Maybe because she’d been happy for a moment. Maybe because her friends made her forget how it felt to always be the wrong one.

Skylar exhaled slowly, forcing her pulse to calm. But her anger was so loud. She could not focus anything even she was alone.

“Fine,” she murmured to herself, “You want me to act like a Slytherin? I will.”

Her gray eyes glinted with precision.

She thought about Bubotubers, and a small smirk curved her lips. No one would suspect her if she never left a trail.

“To be misunderstood is not to be broken. It is to be rare.”
