After an exciting 2 months at Hogwarts, Leo felt kind of sad to be leaving his new friends and the fun behind to be returning home. But he was excited for one thing, the hope that his parents would keep that promise they made with him before camp. If he did well during the first two months of classes and stayed out of trouble they would buy him a pet of his own, just like the deal they had with the twins. Leo had been focused and worked really hard doing everything he could to impress his parents in the hopes he would be able to go pick out a new friend to take back to school.

While his father was busy with work for the day, Leo’s mother took him out to Diagon Alley to the Magical Menagerie shop as promised. He was beyond excited to look at the different creatures they had, still unsure what he wanted as a pet for himself. His brother had gotten a very beautiful grey and white owl while his sister picked out her own half-crup. He was very young at the time they went to pick out their own pets but he always loved when they were home and he could play with them, especially the half-crup who was always sweet and playful.

Sporting a black sweater, khaki pants and a black baseball hat that he decided to wear backwards, Leo and his mother made their way down the street to the shop. Inside the shop he saw all sorts of animals and a lovely older lady and older man who were tending to them and the customers. “Why don’t you go take a look around and see if you like any of them?” His mother suggested before walking around looking at the animals herself. Leo nodded and turned back around where he was greeted by the sight of some half-crups, they were tiny still and so adorable. He loved the one his sister had but he also remembered how much attention it needed. Maybe not the one for me… He thought to himself as he turned to look at some ferrets. They are kinda cute, he thought as he watched them but quickly realized they were a lot to care for as well.

What would be something I can handle while I’m busy at school..? He looked around until he heard a little meow come from behind him. When he turned around he saw a little black kitten in a cage sitting by the cage door looking right back at him. A cat would be the perfect pet to have around, and even more perfectly a black cat which he had been compared to before. Leo went over to the older lady and asked if he could hold the little kitten he saw. Once the cage was opened he carefully held the kitten in his arms, smiling as he saw the kitten snuggle up to him, truly a perfect match. His mother joined him once again and chuckled softly as she spotted the two. “Well, looks like we have a winner I’d guess?” Leo nodded and proceeded to pet the kittens head, even while they went over to pay for it.

As they left the shop his mother looked at him and the new member of the family that he wouldn’t let go of. “What are you going to name her then, Leo?”

He thought about it for a moment. There were so many possibilities for a name for her. He looked down at her, scratching the behind her tiny black ears and looking into her big eyes. Thinking back to one of his favorite things, Greek Mythology, he thought about the many goddesses and who would be a good namesake for the baby kitten. Then it hit him, two of his more favorite of the Greek gods and goddesses was Hades and Persephone. “I think I’ll name her Persephone, Perse for short.” He said and smiled down at the lil kitten as they made their way back home.
