 Pet  A feathered friend
Audrey had wanted to take her cat, Stacy, with her to Hogwarts, but the poor calico had been too nervous to even leave the house, so Audrey had to make the hard decision to leave her behind. "I'll come back and visit you." Audrey whispered sadly as she stroked the cats fluffy fur. Stacy purred happily, not understanding a word.

Audrey left a few days later for Hogwarts, and began her year with enthusiasm. She eagerly devoured her textbooks and learned a few spells, but she still ached for her furry friend again. Perhaps a different pet would help comfort her.

She wrote to her mother, asking for permission to buy a pet when she had the galleons for it, and her mother approved. It took a few weeks to save up enough money, since she had spent too much on chocolate frogs prior, but after saving up twenty galleons, Audrey visited Diagon alley again over the weekend.

Magical Menagerie was the noisiest shop on the block by far. Owls hooted and screeched, cats meowed with varying emotion behind them, Ferrets and rats squeaked and squealed, and dozens of other kinds of critters make their own sounds. It was somewhat overwhelming, but fascinating at the same time. Audrey peered into a terrarium and watched a blue frog puff his chest in and out. He was affordable, but she had enough galleons saved up to buy more than one of him. She had waited this long, and she wanted something a little more pricey.

She was tempted to get a cat, but that felt too much like trying to replace Stacy. If Stacy knew Audrey had considered it, she would never forgive her. Frogs and lizards were cool, but too emotionless. Ferrets were stinky, and rats, while she liked them, would freak out potential roommates. Owls seemed too overdone, so she was opposed to the idea at first, but she could afford them so she decided to meet a few.

The owls were friendly and some of them allowed you to pet them. They were beautiful creatures, clever and useful too. A morepork owl hooted happily and hopped in circles around its cage. Audrey laughed and read the description. Oof. Expensive.

She skimmed the other descriptions of the other breeds, lingering over one of them. "Native to eastern North America" had caught her attention. It would be nice to have a bird with the same home as she had. She looked up into the big, yellow eyes of a young Barred Owl. "Hello there." She greeted. "Hoot!" He replied.

Audrey slammed 11 galleons on the counter and pointed to the Barred Owl's cage. "I'd like that one, please." She smiled at the cashier. "I'm going to name him Charlie."
