A companion for life
My parents had finally told me I could get a pet, as they said I was "responsible", and I was desperate to get a pet to keep with me at Hogwarts. I walked into the Magical Menagerie, and looked round, seeing how many different animals and breeds there were. I walked round the shop, seeing which type of animal I would like. I walked straight past the lizards - they freaked me out - and I walked past the rabbits, as I'd never really liked them. Eventually, I was stuck between the cats, a pygmy puff, (which I'd never seen in the non-magic world), or an owl, which would be useful for sending letters home to my parents. However, I knew that I would be happiest buying my own pet cat, as the owls had quite sharp talons, and it would be weird buying a small animal that I had no idea what it was, and my friends would wonder where I'd been all year to get it!
Now, I just had to decide which breed to get, and I looked at all of the different colours and ages, and I walked round the shop for a while, before I found the cat of my dreams! She was a quite young and small Egyptian Mau cat, with the classic markings, who was chasing her tail round in circles. I walked over to her, and knelt down in front of her.
"Hi kitty!" I said. I held out my hands, and lightly petted her head. After playing with her for a few minutes, I picked her up, and walked towards the counter, where there was a friendly looking couple behind the desk, both smiling, as I asked if I could purchase the cat. I handed over the galleons to them, and said "Thank you", before walking towards the door, where I met my parents, who both fussed over my cat. after a few minutes, my dad said "What are you going to name her, then?" I thought over some names I liked, wondering what sort of name I wanted to give her, because once I'd chosen, I couldn't change her name. I thought that I should give her a name from Ancient Egyptian Mythology.
Eventually, I decided on the name "Isis", as she was an Egyptian goddess, and a powerful sorceress, and was a symbol of feminism in ancient times.
I said, "I'm going to call her Isis."
