L2: Before Wands + a Hex!

╰┈➤Spell: Sneezing Hex (Steleus)
Today was all about the evolution of Magic and learning a hex. It would be my first hex if ever learn and I was just learning about the differences between jinxes, hexes and curses in Defense Against the Dark Arts just a bit ago so actually learning one seemed to be exciting. But… first I had to read and take notes of the Evolution of Magic before I get to learn a Hex. I took out my book and flipped it to the second section as I started to take notes.
Before the invention of wands, witches and wizards would carve runes into stone, wood or even bone to create some sort of magical energy. It was certainly more slower and less precise then a wand or modern-day but it worked. When wands were created, it made spellcasting much easier, faster and more controlled than rune magic and soon became the standard tool for magic.
After those notes, we were able to learn a hex- the Sneezing Hex. The hex is minor- much like the Curse of Bogies I learned about a bit ago… but instead of making the victims nose run uncontrollably, the Sneezing Hex causes the victim to sneeze uncontrollably for a short amount of time. This hex- like the Curse of Bogies, is usually used for a prank and is more embarrassing than harmful- like the Curse of Bogies.
It was explained to us that the wand movement is supposed to be a sharp jab forward- pointing at the victim/opponent. The word to preform this hex is called ‘Steleus’ to make the spell work while doing the correct wand movement for this hex to correctly preform this hex.
After the explanation, we were told that we’d be able to practice the sneezing hex on the dummies- since no one wants a bunch of kids sneezing uncontrollably for around 10 minutes. The dummies would be able to respond by most likely jerking forward/backward repeatedly or making sneezing-like sounds.
We all got in groups and got in a line to practice the sneezing hex on the dummies. Once someone went the next person in line went, so on and so fourth. I was 3rd in line and watching the first 2 in line wasn’t giving me too much hope in succeeding the first time and I was right. I certainly did not but it was just my first time, I’d get everything down in no time. Plus, no one else was getting it their first time so I was fine.
It didn’t take long- maybe like on my 4th or 5th try when I got it to work. I surely wasn’t the first- maybe like the 3rd one who got it to work but I still succeeded. I raised my wand at the dummy, as I did a sharp jabby movement I was supposed to do before I spoke the word…
“Steleus!” I Announced loudly and then it happened…
The dummy bounced back and then started to make sneezing sounds. It worked. It actually worked! I succeeded in my first hex! This was amazing. I was pretty excited to learn it too- especially after learning about what jinxes, hexes and curses were.
