When Magic Gets Messy
LESSON 2 | The Basics: Jinxes, Hexes, Curses {Ghosts + Curse of Bogies}
After getting lost I finally made it to Defense Against the Dark Arts. I hurried into the class and sat down on the only empty seat at this point. I didn’t have lots of friends- none at all in this class so far. I mean- it’s only been the second day so that’s expected. I placed my book on the desk and opened it to the second lesson and learned today was going to be about Jinxes, hexes, and curses which also included ghosts and the Curse of Bogies.
I started on my notes and the first set of notes was about jinxes. Jinxes were minor spells that were mainly for mischief or annoyance like tripping. It was pretty quick and easy- I doubted there would have lots of notes needed to know what jinxes, hexes and curses were.
Next up, hexes. Hexes are stronger and more harmful than jinxes but not worse than curses. Hexes would usually be for causing pain or discomfort.
Finally, there were the curses. Curses are considered ‘dark’ magic and are the most dangerous category that are caused to cause lasting harm. Some example of curses would be the Unforgivable Curses.
After taking notes on the Jinxes, Hexes and Curses, I was ready to take notes on ghosts. Ghosts aren’t like humans- that much is obvious, they aren’t affected to magic like jinxes, hexes, curses or regular spells because they can’t be harmed. Ghosts are the ‘echo’ of a witch or wizard that decided not to more and it’s usually because the witch or wizard fears death or just stays around because of ‘unfinished business’.
Finally, the Curse of Bogies. The Curse of Bogies is a basic curse that isn’t harmful but makes the victims nose run uncontrollably. This curse is more of a Jinx or Hex level curse and is usually very embarrassing, distracting and uncomfortable. It could be seen as funny and annoying depending on what side of the curse you’re on(ex. Victim of curse or random bystander). There are some magical remedies that could help this like a pepper-up potion or nasal-clearing charms.
