Odi’s mother had spared no expense in preparing the afternoon tea spread for their guests arrival. There were cakes, croissants, scones, macarons, and all manner of assorted baked goods laid out over the garden table in an immaculate fashion.
“Do you think it’s too much?” She asked him as he helped her to lay the silverware.
“Yes.”He replied flatly. “And why are there no pumpkin pasties?”
“Pumpkin pasties are an autumn treat darling, and at any rate you ought to watch how many you’re scarfing down these days.” Odette floated past, patting her son’s stomach with the back of her hand. “You’re a growing boy but you’ll get taller than me at this rate!”
Odi made a face as she walked back to the kitchen. It had been a long summer ever since Odi had recluded from his former friends, but the increased volume of social events his parents were organising had at this point begun to make him nauseous. Tea parties, luncheons, soirees, all in the attempt to get their son to make some new friends. All to no avail.

The Wilde home was a gorgeous 3-story townhouse that matched the rest of the street with its ivory-white exterior. Each room was immaculately pristine with polished wooden floors and soft white walls. Try as they might, not one of Odette’s contemporaries in the fashion industry could deny her exquisite taste. Each room had been flawlessly designed with its purpose in mind, and the garden was no exception. Tall bushels of white English roses enclosed the garden from muggle view, and there was an almost imperceptible shimmer in the space above them from the enchantments Odi’s father had placed on the house to further consolidate their need for privacy.

As the first guests began to arrive, Odi maintained a sheepish distance from the clamour of the adults at the gathering. His mother took up most of the attention on her own, and frankly he was happy to let her keep it as he lingered by the margins.
