Midnight Oil  Solo
Note: French, Thoughts
━━━━━━━━━━━━━
At her home in Blockley, England.
During the summer of 2025
It is said that time would heal all wounds.

Nightfall had arrived, and candles would be lit; Edith sat in her rocking chair, hands folded as she watched the grandfather clock tick. Her gaze was quiet, soft with the hint of longing, while the corners of her mouth downturned slightly, deepening as if her mother was pulling her face. Smile. The ticking sound slowly faded, pulling her into a trance and the candles cast a dim hue along the wall.
Tick-
A voice called her name, as she caught a glimpse of a small dot. The bright summer light shone; another pebble hit her bedroom window before Edith walked to open it with her small hands and immediately took a deep breath of the French air. Glancing down in search of the culprit who threw the pebble, she would see a familiar face looking up at her. He was tall, grinning like a fool who had suddenly appeared to have been struck with gold. Edith's gaze traveled down to what he held in his hand.
A flower.

But not just any flower, he had gotten the one she liked. Its white petals glowed beneath the sunlight as she leaned on the windowsill, teasing him about his purchase, "Fraternizing with the enemy, love?" A smile played along her lips as she observed the man chuckle before extending the hand he held the gift with, toward her, and he played along.

Apologizing. Though his words were muddled.

Edith's eyes furrowed slightly, the sight changing from that of the man to broken glass on a familiar marble floor. Her breathing felt different, aching with the mild burn she felt on her right palm; her eyes fixed on the white rose covered in glass and spilt water. There was a feeling she could not shake; the ring on her finger burned like silver on a werewolf's skin when she heard him, his crude words nipping her skin while the glass crunched with every step he took towards her.

Edith screamed.

Echoing with the crunching sound of her flesh and bone tearing, she felt herself fall.

Gasping for air.

She felt as if the sky fell on her, the stars digging into her as her small frame grew cold while jolting awake in her dark room. Quickly sitting up, she heaved and ran her hand through her hair in a soothing manner, the weight on her finger nothing but a memory. "It was just a nightmare..." she sniffled as she tried to calm her pounding heart through the shivering.

Focusing on the ticking of the grandfather clock downstairs.
