Madam Malkin
16:45
August 29th

The streets of the Diagon Alley were bustling with witches and wizards of all ages. Since a new school year was to begin, it's not surprising many kids were buying their new clothes, pets and books there. For the students who sought for their robes and gloves, or to those who yearned for a more beautiful outfit, Madam Malkin was the place they'd want to visit. Between magic users of all ages, there was a little dark-haired girl, all on her own for the second time in the Diagon Alley, without her parents' presence. She was beginning to feel quite independent--She's already been on her own twice this week, and she's only 12! Oh, but Anna wasn't there to buy something as extravagant as a new outfit, she'd have to ask her parents to help her pick the right dress or coat, and they were having ice cream in another store. For now, she had been searching for something, maybe something for her hair, her beloved hair she'd spend hours doing every day, adjusting each curl of the hair to make sure it looked the most stunning it could possibly look every single day. That's when she found the perfect thing--A comb. More specifically, the comb of vanity, which had the supposed ability to turn your hair to your preferred shape in a single stroke. "But that's just too perfect!", she thought, admiring the comb, holding it with her free arm fully extended. Her free arm, I say, for even in her independency and self-sufficiency, she still insisted in bringing her loyal penguin plushy, Aoibheann, that now had a little green tie on his neck, which Anna thought fitted him, as she's always imagined him being in slytherin.
To buy the comb, she just had to find Madam Malkin now... "But where the heck IS that woman?", she wondered, looking around.
..."The Comb of Vanity, that is... Am I being vain for buying this to myself? Am I too greedy? Is this really necessary...?" ...No, she shouldn't think too much about that. She shook off the reflection, refusing to spiral into an existential crisis in the middle of the store for seeing a comb, and before those thoughts resumed, she began to search for the shopkeeper, until she found her.
"...Oh! She's helping another girl!"
Anna looked at her attentively, trying to identify who it was.

Madam Malkin's Robes
Isabella shifted her weight from one foot to the other as she stood in front of the large mirror in the fitting area. The robes draped around her shoulders, looking more elegant than she’d imagined. The fabric was soft, and the plain black made her feel like she was walking into something important. It was a far cry from the school uniforms she wore at home, and she couldn’t help but smile as she imagined how she’d look when she walked into Hogwarts wearing this.

A woman with a kind face and an apron was adjusting the hem of her robe, checking every detail. Isabella tried not to fidget. She wasn’t nervous. She was just thinking about the letter she’d received last week, the one that confirmed her spot at Hogwarts. It was hard to believe, even now. She glanced over at the other corner of the shop and noticed a girl with dark hair holding a shiny comb. That looks nice, Isabella thought, almost distractedly, until she realized she was still being fitted.

Don’t worry, dear,” the woman said with a smile. “Just a couple more adjustments and you’ll be all set.

Isabella nodded, trying not to look too eager to be done. She glanced over at the girl again, wondering if she was about to experience the same kind of magical moment she’d just started to feel herself.

Combs, closets and curiosity
The more Anna looked, the more intrigued she felt. That girl was tall and looked confident, clearly wasn't much older or younger than Anna herself and, most importantly, she was testing robes Hogwarts required. "I haven't seen her anywhere, though... To be fair, I likely haven't seen the majority of the population in that school, it's so full of people..."
Looking around in the store and back to the shiny comb on her hand, basic logic put its hands upon the little witch, who remembered you can't really enter in Hogwarts before buying the clothes that are required to possess in Hogwarts, and by that line of thought, that girl must be entering in Hogwarts this year! "A first-year?? Do I finally get to meet one of my future juniors? What's her name??...wait, she's looking at me. F**k! I'M looking at her!"
Anna quickly dodged her gaze to a random wall of the store, glanced back at the first-year and then at another wall. She didn't know if she was supposed to look away or maintain eye contact, and somehow keeping eye contact without a conversation felt like a challenge she was losing. But she still wanted to talk to that blonde girl who'd soon be in the same school as Anna. However, talking to someone while they're still occupied and maybe distracted with something else usually results on a not so productive conversation... Or so she learnt while trying to endlessly talk with her many servants back at the manor. That's why she decided to do more or less what she'd do back at home when someone was too busy to pay attention at her: She stayed behind the shopkeeper and... Waited. If she did that, she'd also be able to buy the comb as soon as her future junior got her robes, and also talk to her. It looked like the best strategy. When the shopkeeper noticed Anna, she gave a patient smile and said "Don't worry, dear, as soon as I'm done with this one, I'll help you". Anna nodded, and glanced at that tall girl again. She looked graceful and beautiful, something the black-haired envied... And that girl looked poised, elegant, in a way the Blackberry girl wished to scrutinize and imitate in her own style, a thought that continued to echo in Anna's mind even when she wasn't looking anymore. Agh, she was looking too much again. She hated when other people stared at her without actually talking to her. It made her feel inappropriate, like an animal in the zoo. Worried she might have caused that sensation to the blonde, Anna looked down to the floor, and hugged her penguin plushy tighter. So much for a shiny comb.

Madam Malkin's Robes
Isabella noticed the girl staring at her before quickly looking away. She tilted her head slightly, curious. The girl seemed about her age, maybe a little older, holding a shiny comb. Isabella pretended to focus on the robes she was trying on, but her mind wandered. Was that girl already a Hogwarts student? Maybe a second-year? She definitely looked like she belonged here more than Isabella felt she did.

She’d only been in the shop a few minutes and already felt awkward, like everyone could tell she was new. But the black-haired girl’s stare didn’t seem mean—it felt more… curious. Like she was trying to figure Isabella out. That made her feel weirdly important.

When she heard the shopkeeper speak kindly to the girl, Isabella stole another glance. Isabella took a deep breath. If they were both going to Hogwarts, maybe she should say something first. She turned slightly, offering a small, unsure smile. The way the other girl looked down, hugging her penguin tighter, made Isabella’s heart tug. Maybe she was just as nervous. She took a better look at the penguin.

"Is that Percival the Penguin?!" Did she actually just ask that out loud to the girl? That was only supposed to be her inner thoughts...Her voice was soft, but it carried. She hoped it wasn’t a mistake. Too late to turn back now.

Anna stared at her surroundings, her hands tight on Aoibheann. She couldn't tell whether she was feeling nervous for having stared before and wondering if the girl noticed it, or bored, having to wait like this. Back at home, at times like this, she'd play with her hair, straighten and curl it, pull it slightly and rub her fingers against it... But she wasn't at home, and as much as it's normal to play with your hair, Anna took a lot of pride on her curly black hair, which took... Well, to be nice, an unsettling amount of time to do, each strand carefully curled into perfection every single day, and Anna feared ruining all her hard work by playing with it. Well, if she was at home, she could also annoy the servants or play with the animals or talk with the plants or play with her brother. "Is just everything back at my home better?", she wondered quietly.
That's when the other girl suddenly spoke, her voice causing the black-haired to jump behind and drop her penguin, and she quickly grabbed it back, crossing her left leg over the other when she lowered her knees to loer. Loud, talkative and bubbly as she was, she still held high regards for classy behavior... Or whatever she consideres "classy" to be.
When she stood straight, she looked the girl intensely, but then tilted her head and furrowed her brows with wide eyes, taking a few seconds to actually answer.
—...What? Percival? Wh--Who is Percivalm?
There haven't been many moments in Anna's life in which she felt so confused. The confusion made her feel as though she had lost her ground, suddenly thrown in a completely different place. She held her penguin tighter and shrunk in on herself, as if that would somehow made her recover control over the situation and herself.
