But when she reached for her schoolbag, she discovered the charm was gone. She had pushed her way through the crowd descending the stairs and returned to the tower. And that was how she ended up here—a flustered girl in the Astronomy Tower.
The charm was a gift from her mother, Elowen. Rosaline was used to carrying it around and tied it to her schoolbag. Touching it could let her remember home and give her a small measure of comfort. She searched the classroom again and still couldn’t find it. Too bad I haven’t learned ‘Accio’. That’d make things so much easier.
The moon was beautiful. The night sky was clear, and the stars shone through. It was almost a full moon, though already beginning to wane. Cygnus was bright; everyone could see it. But right now, Rosaline wasn’t in the mood to enjoy the stunning starry sky.
She glanced at her watch, noticing that it was near curfew. If she didn’t find the charm quickly, she might get in trouble. That was the last thing she wanted to do, especially since it was only the second week of the semester. And if she caused any points to be deducted from her house, she’d be devastated.
The little lion tried to steady her thoughts first. She went to the corner of the classroom and sat on a cushion. She took another one and placed it between her knees and body. She rested her hands on it as she cradled her head. She thought about the last time she saw her charm, which was in the Astronomy class. But where is it? Maybe under her seat during the lecture? She wanted to clear her mind, yet the feeling that she might lose the charm made her upset. She had already been homesick from the moment she left home. She was frustrated, hoping she’d find it eventually.
