Lillian and her mother were shopping for the new school year. Her sister hadn't come because she said that she had a stomach ache. Her father hadn't come either because he hated magic. She sighed. She missed her relationship with her sister. Lillian had a feeling that Lisa, her sister, was lying. Lillian had a feeling that she was jealous and pretending not to be. And she was pretending to side with her father about the Magical World.
Lillian sighed again. Life was lonely at home. "What's wrong?" her mother asked absentmindedly. Her mother was enjoying Diagon Alley, because likely the last time that she had seen the place was when she was a six year almost seventh year. So, her mother wasn't really with her.
Something inside Lillian snapped when they reached the outside of the Magical Menagerie. "Can I finally have a pet? I mean, you said 'no' last year when I was young- and now I am older. It'll be a companion at school. Please. I saved money like you said."
"Well..." her mother said weighing the pros and cons. "Do you really need a pet? What kind would you get?"
Lillian hadn't thought that far. "Please, I NEED a pet!" Lillian had wanted one for a very long time. This year had to be the year! She was now standing on the steps to the inside of the Magical Menagerie.
"All right," her mother finally relented. "We can go in and get you a pet, but please try to keep the price in mind as you shop,"
Lillian knew that ment 'pick a pet you have enough money for', but right now she was already in the shop admiring a pretty green snake. "Not that one," her mother said slightly warningly. "I will not tolerate a snake in my house,"
"I was just looking, Mother,", Lillian said. "And anyway only Parselmouths can have snakes at my school."
"You are not a Parselmouth, are you?" Lillian's mother weakly asked, worridly. Lillian didn't bother to reply.
Lillian had seen some frogs, toads and rats, but hadn't felt like they were the right ones for her. But, she didn't notice a kind old lady watching her every move. Because, now Lillian hesitated, then decided to look at the rabbits, even though they might fit in the 'expensive' category. Lillian saw a black and white one that reminded her of Oreos, a yummy black and white cookie from the states. A relative had sent a box by mail once, and Lillian had never forgotten the taste.
"I want this one!" Lillian announced to her mother. "I will name him Oreos!"
But the old lady responded first. "I knew you would pick a rabbit. Shy children usually do." The woman could tell Lillian was shy based on her movements.
"I guess..." her mother said, giving Lillian permission to buy the rabbit. Lillian did, and once she was done answering questions and learning how to care for her new pet, she scampered out of the store and said, "I finally have a pet, and his name is Oreos! WC: 516
