After another busy and chaotic school day, Rosaline had gotten to know some people and was slowly getting used to the school routine. Once she relaxed, she suddenly missed everything about home very much. She missed the books at home, her bed, her parents’ smiles, and the sound of Golden meowing in the morning.
Initially, she wanted to write her homework in the Gryffindor common room as usual. The feeling of missing home welled up inside her, like a faucet that wouldn’t turn off. She grabbed her quill, tried to write more sentences for her upcoming essay turn in due date. But her mind was too muddled to think through anything, so she decided to send a letter home.
Going to the Owlery, she prepared a parchment, a quill, and ink to write a letter there. She hoped there would be no one else, as she was afraid that she might cry later. That was why she didn’t decide to write in her dorm.
It was almost dark outside. It appeared to be the time of day when owls are active. They flew in and out the tower, occasionally making cooing sounds, which made Rosaline feel she had companions around her. She found a spot to write her letter. Placing the parchment on her History of Magic textbook so that she would have a flat surface to write on. She started to write, and the words flowed out like a fountain, completely different from when she was writing her essays before. Her eyes began to tear as she kept writing. She wiped the tears from her face with her sleeves carefully, but her eyes still showed signs of having cried. They turned a deeper shade of grey-blue. Just then, footsteps could be heard coming from the stairwell leading to this area. She felt a bit flustered. She quickly pretended that everything was normal, sat up straight, and tried to keep calm.
