First Letter Takes Place at End of Sixth Year
Jake's sixth year was almost over, and he guiltily looked down at his parchment. It'd been absolute ages since he wrote Alan. He hoped the older boy wasn't going to be upset that it had been so long since they'd talked. There had been so much going on at school, he'd barely had time to think about letters. With his exams behind him, he'd sat down to write one of his oldest friends. He had so many questions to ask him, but he decided to start small (mostly) to not overwhelm the former Gryffindor. Though a little nervous Alan would be upset with him, Jake was excited too to finally talk to him again, even if it had to be in writing.

Hi Alan! I'm sorry I didn't write you in a while, it's been a long time since we've spoken. This year was HARD. Things have been really busy at school but now we're finally going off for the summer and I really wanted to hear about how you're doing.
I just want to say, it was really weird without you at school this year.... I can't believe you're already graduated and out in the world. I know you're doing great things, but we really missed you at Hogwarts this year. I can't even imagine what it's like NOT going to school.
I don't really have a lot going on (well I do but nothing interesting). I still can't make a potion to save my life (I exploded a cauldron last month). I don't know how I even passed the OWL last year but I kind of wish I failed so I could stop making potions. I wish I had more to tell you, but I didn't want it to stop me from writing. I'm just looking forward to going home for the summer. Classes are getting harder and harder. I don't know how I'm going to study for NEWTs next year. Were they impossible? Care of Magical Creatures is still my favorite class, I know I'll be fine there, but I'm not so sure about the rest of them.
Anyway, how have you been doing at your job? I can't believe you're working with a real magizoologist. Have you been working with cool creatures? What's the most interesting creature you've got to work with so far? What about the most dangerous? What's it like working with a REAL magizoologist? Is it as cool as it sounds? I'm dying to hear all about it, it's so amazing.
I don't have an owl at home, but you can write me back anyway. Cadmus will send my letters, next time I hear from George.
