First it was her parents, then it was her dreams and now everything seemed haunted. She didnβt know who to trust and all she wanted was to get a wink of sleep and curl up and cry. Neither of those things could ever happen. One, her nightmares were so scary she would end up screaming in the middle of the night. She had debated leaving her roommate and bestie Kaya because she hated ruining her sleep as well.
Not that Kaya wasnβt having any troubles either. Kaya had also been with her on their little hidebehind excursion that was haunting both of their nightmares. While Amber loved the outdoors, she found herself avoiding it because of her nightmares. If she stayed inside they would cause no triggers.
However, she went outside to practice Quidditch and to go from class to class. Today though was one of the exceptions. She needed to be outside or else she would suffocate. Or fall asleep. She missed the sunshine that she loved so much. The scent of fresh flowers blooming in the Spring, and the pollen that stinged her eyes and nose. Those sniffles that she missed so much.
It wasnβt until something was taken away that she really appreciated how much she loved them. That was what she felt with the outdoors. And her parents. She missed them, no matter how much she hated them for ignoring her. She missed her sleep. She missed her friends. She missed her old life.
But she couldnβt go back. Not until she figured out what was happening and solved all her problems. But for now, she could just enjoy this one stray moment of peace and quiet.

Spring Sadness
Summer walked out onto the Ilvermorny grounds one quiet, peaceful spring day. It was the time of year when the clouds where starting to go away, flowers where starting to bloom, and there was little birds in the air. Besides her name being Summer, Summerβs favorite season was spring, the birds and flowers just seemed so peaceful and joyous. During this time, sometimes she would just like to go out, lay down and enjoy the scent of the flowers and the sound of the chirping birds. That, matter of fact, was what she was doing today. Summer was planning on laying in the grass and soaking up the sun. She would be getting a tan, but Summer didn't tan, she would just bask in the sun.
Summer made it to a little grassing field on the Ilvermorny grounds and sat down, not noticing the girl next to her who was obviously thinking about something that was troubling to her. Summer sat, with her hands supporting her in the back, she leaned back. Then, she looked at the girl next to her. The girl looked older then her, a upperclassmen still Summer decided to be brave and talk to her since Summer was feeling it today.
"Hello, are you okay?" Summer blushed, why had she said that? She should have stayed silent like she always does! No taking it back now...

Her cheerful hello made her smile. She was rarely ever asked if she was okay. Although that was likely because she didnβt really talk to many people these days other than Kaya. That thought made her sad; she was no longer the social person she had been in her first and second years.
She remembered her pen pal, the one who she had stopped writing to because she didn't know what to say anymore. She really wanted to pick up writing to her, but what was she supposed to say. "I'm haunted, my dreams are haunted, I suck at Quidditch, my parents hate me, my friends think I'm weird, oh and to top that off I'm basically failing school now hahaha, how about you?"
Tears welled up in her eyes thinking of that and she looked away, to wipe them off. She really wanted to spill her guts to this girl she had literally just met seconds ago, but that would be weird, wouldn't it? But she couldn't say she was fine, because that was just an outright lie. It was so obvious, that she was not.
"I-I'm not okay." she paused, thinking what to spill, "There's a lot going on right now for me, and I feel like no one gets it you know? Everyone else's life seems so great, and mine just sucks..."
She bit her lip. "Thanks for asking though. Although I'm not sure you want to hear my whole life story right now haha because that will probably not end well... unless for some reason you actually do..." she trailed off.
And suddenly she hoped that she did want to hear her life story, and what was going on. Maybe she could get advice from her because she seemed to be doing great. She slapped herself mentally. Who would want to hear from her? Who would want to know about her? Who would want to hear her sob stories? No one. That's right. She was alone, and nothing was ever going to change that.

Spring Sadness
Summer watched the girl as tears started to form in her eyes. Summer had felt joyful, but seeing this girl like this made the day seem... less happy. How could Summer be all happy when this girl was about to break into tears it seemed.
"I get it- well sorta." Summer said softly to the girl, "Before I came here, my life sucked too. But it is always good in the end. If you don't mind me asking, what happened or is happening?"
Summer's social life before she met people here hadn't been to good, but then she ran into Dylan, like actually ran into him, and she finally felt happy and she started talking. So maybe, just maybe, she knew where this girl was coming from. Life sucked, but it was good to know that there were people to support you and you had someone to talk to. Who got where you were coming from.
"If you want of course, I'm not going to force you. I just know that talking sometimes helps to work things out." Summer said, with a small smile on her face to show the girl she was fine hearing it. "Sometimes life is like those little sour candies that go from sour to sweet and then sour again. You know what I'm talking about?"
Unless the girl was muggleborn, Summer realized, there was a high chance she wouldn't know what Summer was talking about. Summer wouldn't have known if her parents where not muggle fanatics and loved trying their candy's.

She gave her a soft smile and giggled when she compared life to candies. It felt absurd, but the girl was right. For such a young age, she was so wise.
βThank you for asking, Iβve never had those candies, but hey maybe Iβll try them now,β she whispered, βI-I itβs a long story. Itβs mostly my parentsβ¦ theyβve been well ignoring me, ever since my brother came to Ilvermorny because Iβm not quite as good as him. They seem to forget that Iβm the one who taught him everything. And then back in October, a bunch of things scary things happened, and my best friend Kaya and I had an adventure, following something from my dream and we were almost killed. Ever since then Iβve been having such bad nightmares, I canβt seem to sleep, or focus, or do really anything for that matter.β she said.
It felt so freeing to say what she was feeling out loud. This was the first time she had addressed her feelings in a long time. Amber took a deep, freeing breath and let go. A few stray tears fell down her cheeks and she brushed them away quickly. βSorry, I just burdened you with a lot of informationβ¦β she said, giving the girl a smile.
She paused. βI guess I never introduced myself. My name is Amber. Whatβs yours?β
Maybe this girl was right. Maybe talking did help. Maybe if she let herself be open, and stopped closing up, then she would be okay. Amber watched the girl, and she felt a lightness in her chest that she hadn't known in months like the heavy knot of her secrets had finally begun to loosen. Maybe she didn't have to carry the weight of those nightmares alone. As she waited for the girl's response, a sense of peace settled over her. For the first time since October, maybe the path toward being βokayβ would be possible to find.
