Waking up in the dorm, Rosaline opened her eyes. She was so exhausted. Yesterday she didn't sleep well. At first, she couldn’t recognize where she was. The four-poster bed wasn’t like her bed at home at all. She sat up, gradually got used to the unfamiliar sight. It had been a few days since she had officially started learning magic at Hogwarts. This idea made her wake up earlier than usual. Her roommates hadn’t woken up yet. She tiptoed, quickly got dressed and brought her textbook and essentials for today. Out in the corridors, the castle was still quiet, not many people had already woken up. Rosaline enjoyed this kind of serene moment, it felt as if the whole castle belonged just to her.
The corridors seemed different from the first night. She knew the staircases would move around and confuse students. Rosaline wasn’t good at directions, she got lost easily, especially inside buildings. So right at the moment she wasn’t sure what to do. She looked around and found a staircase that was going down to the ground floor. Finally, she managed to go to her destination.
Rosaline entered the Great Hall. It was totally different from the banquet held at the first night. No more floating candles, yet there were already plenty of food on the table and a few students. The sun shone through the window, streaming down to the whole Great Hall. This is a great way to start a new semester. Rosaline held back her excitement, though there weren’t that many of students, she still didn’t want to be seem as an immature firstie. She saw the food on the table, started wondering who made it and what spell should be used to let it appear on the table. As she was thinking all that, she accidentally bumped into a boy who was walking toward his table. “Oh, I’m truly sorry! I was thinking some other things,” she apologized swiftly. “Are you okay?”she then asked and offered a warm smile to him.
Breakfast Time
Truly, Nick shouldn't even be awake this early, he never had been a early morning kid, but today felt different.
He woke up with a soft little groan when the tiniest specs of light started to slip past the curtains on the Ravenclaw tower. He dragged himself out of bed and did the bare minimum to look presentable in front of hundreds of other students.
"Well... At least I get early breakfast.." He mumbled to himself as he threw some water on his face and finished waking himself up before leaving his dormitory.
He had been lucky really, the Great Hall was mostly empty when he had arrived, only a handful of students already eating and some already working on early Homework, which was something Nicholas definitely should be working towards as well, instead he just plopped down on his table with a little groan.
Granted, the smell of food and the beautiful spread in front of him could lift any spirit it wished to, and that delicious black pudding plate was already calling for his name. So he grabbed a hold of one plate for himself, pilling it as much as he could before he started grabbing bits and pieces of other meals.
He counted everything he managed to grab from his spot, black pudding, some scrambled eggs, and a couple of fried tomatoes. But he was almost sure he could see a glint of something else farther away from the table. Now that was something he wanted, he had absolutely no idea what it was, but he wanted it.
So, with all the carefulness he could muster, he lifted his plate and turned to go to the other side instead. What he hadn't expected was for his path to more food to be obstructed by someone he didn't saw coming.
Oh the poor girl didn't know what was coming for her, he was a disaster from the get-go. He bumped onto her immediately as he turned and gasped as he tried to save his plate that almost flew right back at him. A couple of his delicious morsels fell to the floor and he grimaced.
"Ow... Sorry! I didn't see you there! "He mumbled, trying to get his bearings before putting the plate shakily back down on the table. "Are you alright?" He repeated almost at the same time as her, looking at her with a awkward but concerned look.
"I'm fine, just... Golly, that was disastrous.." He giggled, a pinkish color coming to his freckled cheeks. "Did I get any on you?"

The food on the boy’s plate spilled a little onto the floor. Luckily, Rosaline’s uniform and the boy’s uniform seemed perfectly fine, except for one spot on the boy’s collar. She looked into her schoolbag and found her handkerchief. It was laced and had her initials “R.E.” on it. She used it to try to wipe the stain off carefully. “Sorry, I noticed there was a stain. I should learn some cleaning magic, that’d make our lives easier.”
When she finished, she then noticed the mess on the floor. “Oh, no, the floor. That is truly a mini catastrophe,” she giggled as well. “No, no, no, it’s not your fault. I’m alright. I’m truly sorry for your breakfast.” Looking into the mess they made, she mused, “How should we clean this up?” She grabbed a paper napkin and tried to wipe the floor. It worked. The floor was clean again.
She then turned to look at the boy apologetically and found his face familiar. “Have we met before? I think we may have met each other at the Petting Zoo in Summer Camp? You are Nicholas, right? I’m Rosaline Everhart.” She reached her hand to him, wanting to be friendly. At the moment she reached out her hand, her stomach growled loudly. She laughed and said, “We should have some breakfast. I’m so hungry.” The awkwardness of bumping into Nicholas gradually dissipated because of the brief interactions they had shared.
Pulling out a chair, she pointed to the other chair next to her and asked, “Would you like to sit here? It shouldn’t matter if we sit at the Gryffindor table or the Ravenclaw table.” The smell of all the food on the table made Rosaline hungry. There were all kinds of food that one could ever imagine. Everything looked so delicious. She stopped staring at the food on the table and took a plate, served herself some scrambled eggs, bacon, and a muffin on it. Reaching for the bottle of pumpkin juice, she smiled at Nicholas and asked, “Would you like some pumpkin juice?” Though the incident caused Rosaline some trouble, it allowed her to get to know Nicholas better. She thought that was nice after all.
